EMB Blog: 2023 Regular Season thru Week 9 - NO POLITICS

Featured Replies

There are several fanbases who had very high expectations coming into season, who may be jumping off their rooves after week 2, with an 0-2 record. All have tough games next week.

Chiefs face off Jags on road.

Seahawks face Lions on road.

Bengals face an improved Rams team at home.

Vikings face Eagles on TNF on the road.

If Jets lose tonight vs. Bills they face the Cowboys on the road.

I am not even going to count Giants fans. Pretenders...and they already jumped. But they should beat Cards on road next week. Ought to be interesting. Week 2 slate.

Correct they aren’t and you don’t want to peak in week 1…

And like Steven a smith I like to see the cowboys get their hopes up a bit and think they are doing well and then get their foot stuck in the front wheel of their bike and face plant into the ground.

That was the day that Eagles fans lost their minds that Jeremiah Trotter wasn’t even dressed and were complaining they should have drafted Ahmad Green, who torched us in his first career game.

1998 was the worst season I ever experienced as an Eagles fan. Dog-ish from day one and you knew it was going to be like that for the entire season. Ugh.

You are thinking granualarly.  That is 100% valid, but it isn't the "ebb and flow of the game" perspective that I was at the center of my comparison.  I accept the fact that I may be the only person who saw the game that way.

That was more so in the response to 400 yards vs 200 yards. Conditions weren't remotely similar to allow that type of offensive outcome yesterday. Mostly all offenses struggled with the weather yesterday including Dallas who put up a 40 burger. NE caught fire on offense yesterday when they had a period of good weather and coverage breakdowns on our part.

Very irritated that we are heading into twonstrsight Sundays without Eagles football.

True, even though both Doug and Nick got some flak for playcalling at times both are aggressive coaches to a point where sometimes my mouth is gaping open thinking: They do whaaaaaat???! (usually on fourth and not really short, in really risky field positions) 😁

But honestly, I love that. It feels like we get these done a lot more often than not.

Oh yeah, and the gritty fight part too of course.

Well, yesterday was bananas.  Why the hell do you go for it on 4th and 2 there?  Why not punt that to the 20?

The flow was similar in that the Eagles led the Lions 38-21 and allowed the Lions to get two TDs to get back into it; I think the Lions even had a 4th quarter possession to try to take the lead before the Eagles D finally got a stop.

I don't take a whole lot from a Week 1 game, other than a win and injuries.  It will be a problem for the Eagles to be without Dean and Bradberry on Thursday; we will see if anyone can step up in their absence.

Could be that,  which could technically still be a lis franc as well.  Could be a fracture...

Lots of possibilities.

I saw someone say a likely 4 week absence which is why I figured an avulsion fracture or fully tear would be less likely. But you're right a lot of guessing based on incomplete data.

Ahman Green. He was one of my favorite running backs I wish the Eagles had on those teams.

The fact there seems to have been confusion in the secondary from some X postings on here tells me Desai and his coaches need to do a much better job. You are right he's got a tall task when none of his LB and one safety can't do their jobs in coverage.

Not to continue to harp on the lack of preseason games but wouldn't that be the perfect place for a 1st year coordinator, new safeties and new green dot LB to iron out the wrinkles?

It was apparently the correct call from an analytics standpoint.  I just think it was a crap play call and didn't take into account how poorly the offense had played.

Depends.  They can't control game flow during preseason games.  Maybe there are no red zone reps.  Or certain third down distances.  Plus, they would be facing a lot of vanilla from the opponent.

In joint practices, they can ensure that these situations are repped.

He has 4 weeks to get it together IMO 🙂 Plenty of time.

Their live practices are as long as installs used to be. I really think their minimalist approach to the offseason hurts in the early part of the year. If they end up in the SB again, no questions asked but with a new staff and new players at important positions that set the defense, I really think they should have taken the max amount of time and they didn't.

The scheduling gods gave the Birds the best break they could hope for after TNF - a random thought I had was with Siri being such a planner, perhaps they are looking at the first 2 games as a place to get the basics in and coordinators settled, and then use the longest non-bye week gap in the season to do more scheme evolution and get some self scouting in.

Exact same thing happened last year. Took them a number of weeks early on to get cranking. Long as they get these early dubs and finish strong who cares.

Problem could be that Jefferson remembers too

So who replaces dean? Ellis?

Dean does seem pretty injury prone

Alvarado's sinker almost didn't register on the pitch tracker

Too bad this is like the third time in the last month his teammates aren't

Yeah it would either be him or Morrow.  Evans might be able to pitch in some snaps by the time Tampa rolls around.
