Some of that is because we are playing with a lead so often, but a lot of it is because teams are realizing it just F'ing works. When you're this vulnerable against the pass, it only invites more passing.

Goedert should have just stepped out of bounds, he had no angle and wasnt going to gain more yardage.  Usually I dont like players stepping out but in no reality was he going to break that tackle and keep running

Yeah, I love our TEs attitude (Celek, Goedert) but there's a reason that Ertz stayed more healthy than them generally. They just have to be smart about it.

What's the defender supposed to do here? Let himself get stiff armed by one of the most physical runners in the league? "Well coach, I didn't wanna hurt the poor 260 LB TE with his hand in my face so I just let eem go."

The grabbing of the arm is ok but once you start going down you don't have to twist and pull back and drop all your weight on it.

I need a transcript for this.  Is she speaking english?  It sounds like she might be possessed.

Yeah, nothing dirty about that play. Defender was hanging on for dear life, had his head pushed away, and was trying to make a tackle. Arm is a part of the body and it was just an unfortunate sequence.

I'd like to see the end zone angle of this play. Curious if Dak stepped out just prior to contact from BG or after. Hard to tell from this screenshot.

Either way, I don't think Dak really had much chance to stay in bounds... if he cuts tighter up field, BG likely gets to shove him OOB easier.

You mean working in the sense that they’re getting by and surviving right?  I’m sure their game plan isn’t pandemonium and confusion pre snap.

No, working on the scoreboard ... better than any team in the NFL.

Consequence of a really stout run defense and a really porous pass defense.

Or, that Slay was the only one with a chance of sticking with Lamb of the players available.  Lamb isn't the typical slot WR.

That is worth repeating ... Lamb isn't the typical slot WR.

Miami might have had more success if they had moved Hill and/or Waddle into the Slot rather than keeping them on the outside.

Their biggest strength vs our biggest weakness.  A lot of bending but 23 pts by the skin of our teeth

This is my biggest concern with the KC game. Mahomes is the king of the scramble drill and extending plays. Dak killed then on it and I expect to see something similar from Mahomes.

Howell got a lot of his success on extended plays as well.

Were these folks live streaming themselves watching the game?   Why do that?    Otherwise, why would this be on the net in the first place?   Not a good look.

I guess I just don't understand this generation and the social media craze.  Somethings just need to be kept in private and not shared with the world.

To revisit the overworked complaint about how our LBs can't defend against the pass:

Other LBs can't either. It's the nature of the position. If you're big enough to stack and shed a block and tackle a 220-pound RB, you're carrying too much bulk to be able to run and cut with a WR. There are two responses to this by the defense: (1) play zone and (2 take an LB or two out and put in more LBs.

Almost all teams play zone. When they do not they've substituted in DBs.

A variant here is the light box, with only four DL, one LB, and six DBs. We do a lot of that. Other teams do as well. Of course, with only five guys defending against the run and five OL plus the RB, the defense is outnumbered and it's easier to run. Our answer to that is to have bigger and tougher DLs, DTs in particular. On pure passing downs we run out two DTs and two rush DE/LB types along with six or seven DBs.

It's a tribute to the quality of our DTs that we are so tough to run against even with the light box.

In any case, enough about LBs who can't cover.

The OL gets no better than a C. They are giving up too many pressures and hits and, unlike in years past, cannot run to close out games any more.

I'd like to see how long Hurts holds the ball v most QBs, especially the last few games.

Eagles don't have a good short passing game, maybe they can start using Jones underneath, he can't run like he used to, but with his size, hands and experience, he should be able to torment safeties and LBs. And maybe learn how to execute a RB screen.

I dont think the Cowboy player was trying to injure Goedert there. It doesnt look like he really tried to keep the arm pinned. He held it of course, trying to drag down Goedert but I dont think he tried to maintain the full arm bar and land on it. I think his grasp loosened considerably. Goederts arm was almost tucked safely and just came back out just enough.

Next year though, I think if they expand the horse collar rule to all drag down tackles, this will be illegal- and this is going to be a perfect example for the league to show as the reason why.

There's a name for LBs who can stop the run and cover, ALL PRO.

You don't see too many like Urlacher (converted college safety at 250 lbs!).

I hope not. It's tough enough on the defense as is.

I love the reframing of this argument to the point where there's no middle ground between our LBs and Fred Warner when it comes to their ability in coverage.

What did the running game look like in those games?

Goedert is a much better run blocker than Albert O, which is where I think there could be a drop off.

I believe they rushed for over 300 yards against the Packers.

Yep it just looked like a football play.  If a ball carrier is going to stiff arm it's natural to grab the arm. Much as I want to blame the Cowboys player it just looked like an unfortunate bang bang thing there

Sirriani all but said they'll use an extra OL at TE more often now

I grabbed these two screenshots from the replay.  One just before stepping out and one just as he was stepping out.  It is pretty clear from them that BG was barely touching, if touching him at all.  However, the pressure from BG was clearly causingf Dak to modify his route to the end zone.
