Lol. Sorry, JR. I will keep complaining about how **** our LBs are in coverage. Cunningham has no business being out there on clear passing downs.

Yeah, LBs in general suck in coverage, but they don’t have to be this bad either.

It really felt like, at least early in the game the coverage was really good. Dak had nowhere to go with it and he wasnt finding anyone until he extended the play.

Eventually it got to be too much. Got sick of seeing those guys not finish a sack. And him consistently being able to find someone rather than throw it away.

As for LBs- I think we miss Kyzir White and he was cheap enough to keep. I thought it was a bad move to let him go, and unfortunately Nakobe hasnt proved me wrong.

I think Hurts' injury has been a blessing in disguise. He's playing much better as a QB since he's had to rely on his arm more. Also, I hate to see him taking hits out of the pocket.

Speaking of Hurts outside of the pocket, one thing that infuriates me is how he doesn't maximize his yardage on plays at the sidelines. You see it all the time with Patrick Mahomes where he will extend the ball forward just as he's crossing the sideline. With Hurts, he'll often have the ball on his hip as he dips out. That might seem insignificant, but that could be a free two yards.

I also was disappointed with Hurts sliding the other day. It looked to me like he had a free run to the sideline but he went down in bounds about a yard or two shorter than where he might have ended up. And on slides like that, I think he's exposing himself to injury even more. If not from an inadvertent late hit from a defender, but also from a potential awkward slide where his leg might get folded up as he goes down.

2022 Week 10 Vs Division Opp: Goedert Injured out for a Month (Eagles lose fall to 8-1)

2023 Week 9 Vs Division Opp: Goedert Injured out for a Month (Eagles Win Advance to 8-1)

Different year, Different outcome, Another Injury, Same Record.  Crazy Coincidence.

Yeah, nothing dirty about that play. Defender was hanging on for dear life, had his head pushed away, and was trying to make a tackle. Arm is a part of the body and it was just an unfortunate sequence.

I don't think he twisted his arm. He was trying to pull him down with it.  Football is a contact sport and some injuries cannot be avoided.

Are we really thinking it's only going to be a month this time? Has that actually been reported anywhere or we all just wishcasting on this one? I'm wondering if it's actually a two month kind of deal. That'd suck of course but at least he'd be there for the playoffs, assuming we get there (which we will).

Oof Cunningham - His feet are cement.

I'm fine with him sliding because of all the fumbling issues lately so better not to risk it for 1/2 more yards when he's pretty far from the sideline. The one you were talking about was with Parsons chasing him so there was a zero % chance he was going to outrun him with a bum leg. He just has to get better with sliding because it was really awkward.

It's 4-6 Week injury.  So honestly maybe the end of December.  Also depending on where the Eagles are in the Seeding, who knows but at the very worst he will have Arizona and the Giants game to knock off rust if he's out the next 5 weeks.  I believe the Eagles are in magic number territory now.   I believe 4-5 wins will clinch a playoff spot.

This is still a very good OL. It just went from an elite-level unit to a very good unit. Combine that with an immobile Hurts, and running from the shotgun sucks. I wish Hurts was comfortable throwing under-center, but he isn't so we will rarely use that in the run game.

Meh, not shocking at all he's always sucked in coverage, he's been one of the better LBs against the run but his coverage has never been good

Problem is Dean sucks in coverage too, Morrow is better in coverage but he's brutal against the run and it's not like he's all pro in coverage just better than Dean and Cunningham which isn't saying much.

It would be nice if the eagles had just one LN who could cover in a passing league, I thought maybe Ellis could be that guy but he has t dine anything so ...

Yep I loved the White signing. He was a bit up and down but there's been a huge dropoff. He got some money but seems like we're going to have to find a way to spend that next year on someone else.

Since when do we defend Cowboys’ players in here? Especially after they injure one of our own?

F the Cowboys. F Markquese Bell.

Prayers up for Goedert. Wishing you a speedy recovery, big dog.

Having some semblance of consistency week to week with half a new secondary and a new DC certainly couldnt hurt.

Theres just no way you can be successful under those circumstances unless you have All Pros at every position.

I agree with you. It’s not that the linebackers are average or simply competent and we’re ****ing about them not being all pros. They are well below average in pass coverage. If they were just average in pass coverage, I’d be like OK that’s fine that’s really all we need and expect given how we treat the position. They’re not gonna be Fred Warner or guys of that ilk but at least they’re competent. But they aren’t even average at pass coverage. I wouldn’t even say they are slightly below average. They are not good.

and there’s multiple reasons for this. Nakobe Dean is about the only linebacker theybe invested in as a top three round pick. And he’s not been very good and he can’t stay healthy. I know people were excited when the Eagles drafted him because of where he fell, but I always think about why did he fall? I don’t think it was strictly just the injury people. I think some thought the talent around him at Georgia allowed him to look better then what he really was. Can’t argue with that so far and hopefully he can change that narrative.

The other issue is besides TJ Edwards what linebacker in the last four years have they developed? Really it’s TJ Edwards and that’s it. Singleton went elsewhere and frankly don’t think he was good enough to be a starter here.  TJ Edwards was competent. Outside of him it’s been bring in FAs every year and hope one sticks.

eagles don’t have to take a linebacker in the first round. We all know they’ll never do it. However don’t have too. Can find guys in the 2nd and 3rd round. Warner was a 3rd rounder, Darius Leonard was a second rounder. Lavonte David was a second rounder. Demario Davis 2nd rounder. Bobby Wagner was a second rounder. the eagles just haven’t been able to draft and develop them besides the development of TJ edwards. Honest question when was the last time the eagles drafted a linebacker and he turned out to be solid/competent? Mychal Kendricks? That was in 2012

Nakobe has been mediocre. Disappointment. Expectced more from him. White was outstanding. You are correct. We should have kept White.

I’d say nakobe Dean being mediocre would be generous. I think he’s been below average

If Hurts style of running, misses a couple oi Extra yards? then i am perfectly fine with it as long as he prevents injury to himself first. After all he is our biggest weapon.

You don't really want him taking snaps from under center with his knee right now anyway. Shotgun makes his dropback easier.

Cunningham graded out as one of the best Eagles defensive players on Sunday, and the eye test told me he had a very good game overall.  You're not going to find a LB in today's NFL who can do everything vs the run and pass.  When the Eagles start paying their LBs $95M over 5 years, I'll start complaining they aren't as good as Fred Warner.

The Eagles spend their money on pass rush.  It's an organizational philosophy.

I feel a lot better having Cunningham and Morrow on the field knowing they are shutting down the run game, while leaving something to be desired against the pass.

In pass coverage, what little Dean can make up for in instincts and maybe being a bit faster, Cunningham can make up in length.

Too many times we have had an LB who was supposed to be solid in coverage, but was still too short and TEs can make catches over them.

Its just a really tough thing to get a great coverage LB because that guy has to somehow be tall, AND fast, AND quick. You usually cant get that combination. So instead of man coverage, you have to prioritize a LB who can get deep in drops while in zone and take away passing lanes. And hopefully have a little length to help. Theyre not gonna be man coverage guys.

Kyzir white was great in zone coverage. And had some speed to where he could almost do both although, he was also short.  But he made life harder on QBs and occasionally even made plays on the ball. Dean isnt close to doing that stuff for us.

I disagree on the DC.  From what I've read and heard, Desai is using a lot more different coverages and pressures than Gannon.  It's hard to be successful with the likes of Edmunds, Garner, Goodrich, etc. on the field.

Mixing up coverages doesn't mean much if you're doing them at the wrong times or not disguising them appropriately. We talked before about assignments in bunches being set pre-snap rather than being pattern matched. Likewise, using pressures is a vague term. Green dogs, fire zones, cover zero jailbreaks, etc, are all various forms but not appropriate in all situations. Again, we went from gold standard to the trash bin in a single offseason. Personnel obviously is a part of it, but to say the change in DC isn't a factor seems a bit of a stretch. Not to say Gannon was some savant or anything, but Desai seems to have plenty of things to correct in the scheme before we can right the ship.

The league needs more wholesome content.
