I love their picks this year. Can't argue with Carter, Smith, or Brown, but at some point Howie needs to invest in the freaking position and sooner rather than later. Dean goes down and they have trash playing now.

Sadly, this guy is more proven  than anyone on the roster (recent track record). He's an immediate upgrade. Not saying much.

Dean was a 3rd rd pick so was Davion Taylor for that matter.  They signed Kyzir White last year.  This year he got cute with his choice of low budget solutions at S & LB

their social media accounts have very few followers and their site. Where are they getting the money to pay people more than the Athletic? The owner must have a huge bank roll or this is about to be the sports media version of FTX.

I know some people can't get enough coverage but I'm the opposite right now.  There's too much media for my taste.  Get deluged with the same stuff from all over.

Yeah i thought lane and mailata didn’t play up to the standards we’ve seen in the past

lane didn't have a good game , IMO jurgens looked solid

I hope he does well. They probably can't make a bigger move for a few weeks, so cool. It's still shortsighted IMO to role with just Dean and some JAGs.

It's great spending some 3rds, and I'm glad they have Dean, but going into this year they had to know it was Dean and a bunch of trash. There is devaluing the position and there is getting too cute like you said. That's a great way to put it.

I was hoping Mailata's struggles last year were injury related but he's not off to a great start

It will be like Byron Evans and Seth Joyner

What?

Sorry... I missed it.  🤦‍♂️

Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson were credited with allowing two total pressures each. Jason Kelce didn’t allow a single pressure.

According to @PFF, it seems like the OL struggled in Week 1 were mostly due to the struggles of Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata.

Why would fans expect a linebacker who has just been signed to the practice squad -- and not the 53-man roster -- to suddenly become some kind of answer to our linebacker questions? And isn't it true that this guy Evans wasn't on any team's active roster this year? Sounds to me like this is a move that while it has very little downside, doesn't offer much hope of a meaningful upside.

May end up contributing like Suh and Joseph did.  We are merely looking for competence.

I am going to discount that stat.  PFF looks at proximity, even if the defender is being effectively blocked at the time.  These aren't all guys with clear paths to the QB..

yea, the play of both OT was really strange. Not like the Patriots have world beaters on the edge. I think Mailata peaked 2 years ago and has been in decline since. I still like him but wonder if he got complacent after the immediate success and contract.

Does the sack count as a hurry?

I assume so.

I doubt that.  Seem like hurry/sack is analogous to hold/save in baseball.

I don’t even care about the stat, just watching live you could see he was struggling. He also had a few presnap penalties. Granted, Judon is a really good player and Mailata typically struggles against the bigger, powerful DE’s. Not the end of the world but not an ideal start either.

But those two guys were signed to the 53-man roster. This guy was signed to the practice squad. Yeah, we talkin' 'bout practice.

That's kind of a big distinction in terms of expectations. Or it should be at least.

In baseball terms, wouldn’t it be more like hit/HR?

Like, all HRs are hits but not all hits are HRs?

Judon had 15.5 sacks last year. He’s really good.

Game might be canceled tonight due to clouds looking too ominous.

Yes.  Expectations should be tempered.

Really had people here blasting me a couple weeks back for saying Purdy was better than Geno.
