I’m re-watching a few clips and something that’s a bit confusing is that it is clear the coaches have drilled it into Hurts to get down instead of taking on contact, yet the coaching staff calls plays that ask Hurts to run.

Why are they asking him to run and get down before contact? It just doesn’t make sense. Not really much of a threat with the RO if your QB is just going to drop at first sight of contact. I get not wanting Hurts to take hits, but just don’t call those plays.

I want to see Penny against the Vikings. The run game looked a little too complex and the OL looked out of sync. They had 2 pulling several times and I believe I saw Mailata pull all the way across the line.

One of his best skills is his legs... can't take that away from his game. We saw what happens when he doesn't get down.

And here I thought 'boning' your date meant something else...

And Geno doesn't?  Or does being awful for 8 years until your 9th season where you have the one good season in your career for some reason mean that Geno in year 9 is who he is and all the years prior were just an 8 year phase?

I was commenting on Purdy only. How's this: YOU ARE RIGHT. See Pavlov for further explanation.

My post that you were responding to was about Purdy and Geno.  So your post bringing up Nick Foles makes no sense whatsoever even within the context of you trying to attack my previously stated opinion that Purdy is better than Geno when you don't want to apply your logic towards Geno as well.

Our next 2 opponents. Neither has the personnel of the Patriots, but we better figure this out fast.

Hurts is a better pocket passer than he is a runner. His legs are a wonderful benefit but he does his best damage from staying in the pocket and picking apart a defense. Designing plays for him to run will just add wear and tear to his body. Let him use his legs when he has to. Don't make him use them if there are other options.

He does use his legs when he has to... when things are breaking down he gets out of dodge. Many of the so called designed run plays for him are actually RPOs where he has the option of handing off the football. He decides when to pull it. If he wants to save himself wear and tear, hand it off more.

He's def not a better pocket passer than runner.  Last year he improved greatly from the pocket...yes, and we hoped he would continue progressing there.  He was bad yesterday, borderline terrible...but it's week 1 and he hasn't had real reps since the SB.

We knew all off-season that we would have to be better against the blitz.

That wasn't a blitz though, I count 4 rushers....I wish I could slow that down and see more clearly but looks like Jordan got his lunch eaten on that play.

I blame McDonald's. If they would just leave the McRib on the menu...

That didn't look like an well designed play. Maybe it was supposed to go to the RB in the flat and everyone was clearing it out?

You're right, I matched the wrong clip.

In that one, all the receivers get locked up and Jalen has no where to go with the ball. Jordan doesn't help either. Good D by the Pats.

I watched it back frame by frame...good decision to bail, but he stared down the RB in the flat when the hot route (looked like DG) was open the entire time in between the hashes that he was breaking from the pocket. Would be a tough throw semi across the body but not completely across the field for that giant void in the middle of the field behind the shallow zone/spy LB.

RB wasn't open...DG on the hot route drifted open as soon as he broke the tackle box and the spy drifted up.  At worst he puts a ball in the dirt in the middle of the field.

Uh oh, Rodgers is hurt already

That was the sound of 1 million Jet fans pissing themselves

My response was that it may be premature to anoint Purdy in any context. My bringing up Foles makes a lot of sense in that context. While he is hero of all heroes because of the SB run, Foles showed himself to be a QB who could get hot but overall was career backup-level after logging one of the greatest 1st years in NFL history. I didn't apply the same logic to Smith because he has a large body of work off which analysis can be made. Purdy on the other hand is largely speculative. It would be illogical to use the same logic for each because to do so would create a false equivalency of where they are in their careers.
