Super Bowl era.  Two full season minimum.

Number one, who's Fing idea was it to have Gainwell as the "lead" back. The only logical explanation I can think of it they wanted to keep Swift fresh for the Thursday match up. Which shows the coaching staff will hold players back for future games.

Playcalling was closer to Sirianni than Steichen. I felt the vikings defense was dictating what the Eagles would do early in the game. BJ finally got his head out of his ass and decided to take control and run the ball 4-5 yards a pop.

Jordan Daivs, man. I loved the pick and was getting a bit worried, but he has shown more these first 2 weeks than he did all of last season. Really is developing nicely and hope his injury isn't too bad. Excited to see how he progresses throughout the season.

Covey is a waste. 4 snaps, 1 fumble. Time to call up everyone's favorite Greg Ward and just let him fair catch it. With Quez dealing with a hamstring injury, at least Ward can run routes too.

Special teams, outside Elliott, was not that great. Siposs had a fairly bad punt and there was a good return on it, thankfully they got bailed out by the fumble, but I wasn't too impressed with the coverage.

OL was out of sorts in the first quarter and started getting it together later. This is the 2nd week in a row where I felt the OL was trying to be too complex and once they simplified things started to play better. I know this will get better with time and as they play together more. Lane is looking human, but the broadcast did mention he was doing some exercises on the sideline, so maybe still not 100% back from his surgery.

That INT by Hurts was bad all around. Wasn't a good read or throw. Hurts just seems more hesitant and like his mind is already made up before the snap. I hate how the coaching staff is calling run plays for him, but also asks him to not take hits. Pick one. I felt what made Hurts great last year was the trust he had in his receivers. He would throw the ball up for them to make a play. I want to see more of that from him. When he's bailing on pockets, he needs to keep his eyes down the field. I feel the play is dead as soon as he bails because there doesn't seem to be any kind of improvising from the receivers.

I trust Hurts to get this corrected and put in the work. I'm not worried about AJ showing his frustration, I get it. Hes a great receiver that wants the ball, but I don't see this impacting the team. He's just passionate about the game. If you see this spill over into the media and Brown calling people out, then it becomes and issue.

Defense played well considering Bradberry, Blankenship, and Dean were out and Maddox didn't last long. Goodrich had no clue what he was doing on several plays, but its also hard to task him with covering the best receiver. Edmunds is not a good safety, and not a good LB either. He is somewhere in between and don't really see a good fit for him. Evans is, um, ok I guess. Really want to see Sydney Brown, but it was also a wake up call for him when he came flying down to pop Hockenson and he just bounced right off of him. Kid is tough and stayed with him, but I hope he learns there is more to tackling than just flying like a missile at someone. I was pleased with Jobe for the most part. I know he got burned on that 1 TD and may have been responsible for a 2nd, but felt he played well and will get better with more playing time.

Al Michaels needs to retire. Calling the QB sneak the Eagles run an ugly play is just dumb. Its not a gimme and it takes skill to run it with the right personnel. I think they ran it two or three times with Minshew last year and it didn't work as well. You don't see many other teams running it like that because its actually hard to run. I don't even think you need to push Hurts forward, the players behind him are trying to focus on the ball to make sure it doesn't come out and they can recover it.

I don't even want to get into it with the refs, but they need to be consistent.

This team has a lot to work on, but its better to be 2-0 and have these problems. A lot of it is correctable, and I have confidence in the coaching staff to get it fixed. It will take some time, but I always feel you don't really know your identity until week 5 or 6 when it all starts coming together. Looking forward to a good Bucs defense, and am glad the offense is getting these different challenges.

The running game and sticking to it when it's working is our of our biggest strengths, how many teams in the league would be ok with keeping up the run to the degree we did last night

I think a lot of modern D gameplanning is counting on opposing O coords not having the desire to lean on the run even when it's working great

We are willing and able to win a no style points game and it's a big advantage

The Running game affected their defense. Harrison Smith did not drop deep into coverage because of the run threat. That left Smith in single coverage on the outside and helped get the ball over the top. That's the effect of running the ball.

The Pats and Vikings play the same defensive scheme. Hurts and the O Coordinator struggle and have no solutions to help the passing game. Except run the ball.

When defenses are dropping 8 players into coverage, they’re going to be able to cover your WRs.

For me, the running game IS the solution. Like, you want extra DBs out there and have their first step be backwards? OK. I am going to run the ball over and over again until you prove your front 3 can beat our front 5.

I could be wrong and certainly am no expert… but does Lane look about a quarter of a step slower…

Lane just looks off, as does the whole offense.   Honestly, I think running the ball as much as we did last night will help the offensive line start to click.

  • DeAndre Swift is the RB Miles Sanders thinks he is.

I was thinking all last night -- how did Howie get this guy for a 4th and a 7th?  He looks like a stud.  We may have upgraded there, although I know Miles is a great blocker and has good hands, too.  I haven't seen enough of DeAndre to really evaluate him on those areas.

  • Not sure how the Zebras missed the tackling on Sweat for that TD.  Stevie Wonder could see that.

Officiating last night was TERRIBLE.  AJ was absolutely interfered with on that TD, and there were a ton of holding calls that they missed.  At least they got the touchback call right.

I agree with the bolded.   OCs seem to be of the belief that the only way to be 'dynamic' is to pass the ball.   But, a great running game can be dynamic, and more importantly, it can be demoralizing to an opponent... not to mention the beating that it places on the defense and so they are worn down by the 4th quarter... when you need to be able to run the ball to kill the clock.    And since most games end up being one possession, the idea that 'last possession wins' means that if you get the ball with 8 minutes left and can just run the clock out without giving it back... you win.  Trust the run... and it will be there when you need it most.

I'll add a few random thoughts:

  • Jalen had some nice deep throws, but that interception was UGLY.  A poorly thrown ball into double coverage?  Not good.  He seemed to settle down in the second half after the running game got going, but it was a really nasty start.
  • The officiating was really bad.  Lots of missed holding calls, AJ Brown was absolutely interfered with on that TD.
  • Jefferson's fumble out of the end zone was the difference in the game.  It ended up being a 10 point swing.  Vikings lost 7 on that idiotic fumble, which gave us more time to move the ball down the field & kick a long field goal.
  • I want Penny to get more touches.  I want screen passes to him.
  • Speaking of screens, Steichen used to run WR screens all the time and I notice that seems to be missing.  Not a complaint.  I hated that play.

Meh, maybe it was just my impression, but he always seemed to be pretty reliable out of the backfield.

Did the Dline look good because they're actually good or because they were up against backups?

I’d say both. It helps to go up against backups, and also helps that the defense sold out against the pass, but at the end of the day they were dominating in the run game.

I’m more concerned with their pass pro than I am with their run blocking.

I'd like to see more pre-snap movement on offense to scheme guys open.  Looks like we are counting on the WR to always beat the coverage rather than making the coverage beat the action and routes.  We never rolled Hurts out, rarely put a WR in motion.  The defense essentially gets the same pre-snap look and never has to adjust on the fly.  Vikings made our D think and adjust all night, takong advantage of a lot of young or mediocre defenders.  We played a very mediocre pass D last night and made them look good.  Turnovers saved us, even with the great run game.

What do you mean?  They are consistently inconsistent.  You can set your watch by it.

I must have completely missed it last night and was wondering why he wasn't out there.  What happened to Jordan Davis?

Boy, I hope Colorado loses this weekend. The media slobbing over Deion is beyond annoying. Deion making every game personal is even more annoying. I was a huge Deion fan and still hope he succeeds but the everything is personal, bring the receipts act is already tired.

He didn't make it personal. The Colorado State coach took a dumb jab, and sad thing is, it's his team that's gonna pay for it. Gonna be a blowout, and I hope Deion goes over to him with the hat and shades on. Most fun I've had watching college football in years.

Here's roob's take.

Gotta give a shoutout to the two Georgia defensive tackles, who have both put together massive performances the first two weeks of the season. Jalen Carter has been everything we imagined and more. Just a dominating, fast, powerful, active force in the middle. And Jordan Davis is miles ahead of where he was last year – and he wasn’t bad last year. Davis had his first full sack – he now has 1 ½ in two games – along with two quarterback hits and a tackle for loss. And Carter had a tackle for loss and a hurry and really stuffed the middle. The

A few reasons:

  • RB value is down across the league.
  • Injury history.
  • The Lions just drafted a RB in the first round, so they have no need for him
  • Lastly, he's in a contract year.

The biggest shock of this though is how did he get it done for a 4th round pick in 2025!  By value, that means it's a 6th round equivalent.  And, its possible the Eagles get better value for him in comp picks if they let him walk.  But, if his contract demands are reasonable, I see no reason to let him walk.  Get him resigned during this season and maybe he'll take a bit of a discount to play in his hometown.

The Alley's the O Line Created for Swift, were so big, he could have rolled himself on a wheel chair through them.

Jordan "Bust" Davis

That’s the crazy thing about Davis… he’s not just a big NT. He has elite athleticism for the DT position regardless of size.

That’s why I loved the pick so much. The floor was really high: you had a very high certainty that at a minimum Davis was going to be a really good run defender.

But the ceiling was through the roof as well: he had all the physical tools necessary to be a top tier interior pass rusher. It was just a matter of coaching and if he could implement it.

So far it looks like he’s doing that. The sky is the limit for this kid, especially playing next to his buddy Carter.

I agree, and he's only 24.

Cost the team a cover, imo - I agree, when Swag starts seeing the field better everything will be OK.

No updates on injuries from last night?  Particularly Maddox - I wanna know if he's just out for the remainder of this season, or if he'll need to retire altogether so we can move the F on.
