I’d like to trade for a safety that has some versatility to play safety and some slot in case maddox gets banged up. Like they did with CJGJ at times last year

What would you give up in the trade, and what player do you have in mind?

Depends on who the player is what I’d give up. I’d have to look. Only team i think that believes they aren’t going anywhere this year is the cardinals and willing to make trades. I’d love to get Baker but i don’t see that as realistic.

Does Baker fit your criteria of "a safety that has some versatility to play safety and some slot in case Maddox gets banged up."

YAC in general seems to be an overall issue other than some of the deep shots they’re taking. Anything within 10 yards guys aren’t getting much separation.

On just specifically goedert felt like last night he rarely ran routes over 3-5 yards. I’d have to watch the all 22 but i only remember seeing him run over 10 yards on a route once or twice.

Yes. Baker has played slot before for the cardinals (earlier in his career more than now but even last year had him play some slot). And he’s a safety. If we really want to dive into it, he’s also lined up for some plays at linebacker for the Cardinals.

Someone with the All-22 access can probably confirm this, but the feeling is that teams are playing more zone in an effort to limit Hurts' running.  And so the routes are a lot more 'check-up' types, curls, button-hooks etc.   I don't think a pass was thrown to Goedert on the move.  He got the screen, so he's basically stationary... he got a couple short curls where he was actually moving towards the LOS when he caught the ball.

The coaching staff needs to work on getting more creative with the routes to create space in those zones.

2-0 can't ask for more than that.

Overall, that was a pretty solid game, the defense was a minor miracle given the injuries on the back end.

If what Penny did was holding on the Brown TD, but their left tackle wasn't holding Sweat on the TD that took them to 21 then I need the holding penalty explaining to me, because I don't get it. The non call of PI on the second shot to Brown was just <chefs kiss>

There were clear improvements from Sunday, even if it was far from perfect, at the end of the day If you can put up 34 points and 454 yards of offense playing below par, then you're going to royally kick somebody's ass when you clean it all up.

I echo the sentiments of the first sentence above.

Don't forget the great Paul McFadden!   Growing up... I didn't realize that barefoot kicking was actually an anomaly!

McFadden was good.  He just played with mostly bad teams.  The Eagles also had Mark Moseley for one season before he went to the Skins.

On the topic of goedert, need to figure out how to get him more chances to get YAC yards. Basically was just  a check down last night. He’s too good to have 6 catches for 22 yards on the season. That’s 3.7 yards per reception.

Goedert is best utilized in the intermediate passing game.  For his career he is 11.9 yards per catch with a 72.8% catch rate.  For comparison purposes:

Travis Kelce -- 12.7 yards per catch, 71% catch rate

George Kittle -- 13.2 yards per catch, 71.7% catch rate

Mark Andrews -- 12.8 yards per catch, 66.9% catch rate

Goedert is an extremely reliable target and IMO is best used in space.  These TE screens are not the best use of his skills; he should be targeted into the open space that is vacated when Smith or Brown run deep routes.

They are 2-0 against two of the better defensive coaches in the league.  They have another waiting in week 3.

Teams are throwing different stuff at us this year.  We have a first time play caller and a still relatively inexperienced QB, who hasn't seen everything like a Mahomes or Rogers.

We can fortunately lean on the run game while they figure the other stuff out.

He's still a rookie...

And went on to be league MVP!

Eagles also had Tom Dempsey!  Gary Anderson.   And the incomparable Chris Boniol!   Some great kickers have come through here... but mostly not been as great here as elsewhere.

After reading some of the posts this morning, I think the old Mike Schmidt quote still applies

The Alley's the O Line Created for Swift, were so big, he could have rolled himself on a wheel chair through them.

I questioned his decision making a couple of times. The one that infuriated me was the one where Dickerson got called for holding. There was a pretty good hole right up the middle (I have endzone seats and I'm looking right at it) that he could easily have gotten three or four yards and gotten the first down. Instead he tries to bounce it wide and because of that Dickerson's arms get extended and he gets flagged. So instead of an easy first down, we lose ten yards.

And for what it's worth, it just feels like Swift is gonna be a fumbler. He hasn't coughed it up yet but he doesn't seem that secure with the ball.

We are far from the trade deadline, but if the eagles can’t acquire a linebacker or safety (assuming they are issues at that point still) at the deadline to bolster the defense, then I would actually go to the other side of the ball and see if they could get an upgrade at their slot/no. 3 wr. Quez is currently hurt but really I’d love to try to get an upgrade there and just make the passing game more dangerous by having a more reliable guy as the no. 3/slot. Maybe a guy who is a reliable slot receiver but also does returns

Does Logan Ryan have anything left?

It's...week 2.

Yeah, and what has Johnson shown you in terms of adapting or offensive creativity? Nothing. He kept running the ball....great. Smith was open deep a few times. Great. Sustainability past running the ball? Nothing. Hurts is reverting backwards. That's also on the OC.They are winning because of the talent they have (and some luck like Jefferson fumbling it out) and honestly being hindered by him. This "they will be fine it's early mentality" is great but what we are seeing doesn't show that yet.

I'll have to re-watch.. Didn't Hunter have 3 sack?  I thought that 3 man rush one was on Mailata and one other one.

To your first point, it was one of the reasons the lions moved on from him based on what beat reporters were saying from their sources. Besides his durability that the lions got annoyed with, it was his inability to consistently make the right decision and take what the oline provided. It’s why when he came back last year, they kept with jamaal Williams as they were having a ton of success with Williams who’s not as talented or flashy but just followed and took what the oline gave him.

I am hoping that swift builds on what he did last night. Because if he does, for the most part follow his blocks and takes what the oline gives him, he can live up to the expectations people had when he came out of college.

One of those sacks wasn’t on mailata. It was on hurts. The Vikings dropped 8 and hurts should’ve just dumped it off to swift who was wide open in space and instead he waited and moved into the pressure and Hunter got him. That was the 3rd and 23 sack that kicked them out of FG range

I'm sorry.  This excuse needs to go away when he signs a $250+M contract that includes the highest annual salary in the league.   Yes, there are things he hasn't seen.  But, if he's going to be paid like the best, then he is expected to play like the best.  The expectations come with the paycheck.

He's number 2 just in terms of longevity and scoring behind Akers.  He's a better kicker than Akers and has been clutch in key moments.  The only other kicker I would put in a list with them is probably Tony Franklin and that's only because he didn't wear a shoe on his kicking foot.

Paul McFadden didn't wear a shoe on his kicking foot either and he was a better kicker than Franklin, who was largely overrated because he had a strong leg.

So, with that built in... the Eagles need to pace Swift.  There's no reason to ride him that hard week in and week out.  They can't do it, at least not if they intend to bring him back.  If they don't... then I suppose they could just ride him as long as they can, but I'm opposed to that in principle because it's really a crappy way to treat a player... as completely disposable.

Completely agree… I expect to see a rotation in the backfield. They are concerned about getting all of these guys through the regular season, healthy.  The 2 new guys have not proven they could do this on their old teams… so I understand the Eagles being cautious.  It’s clear that Swift is the best so far… But what good will that do the Eagles if they use him up in the first half of the season and he gets hurt

With 25 seconds left on 4th down why did we punt directly to the vikings instead of kicking out of bounds

run time off the clock, less time for the offense

Now that I've watched the game (not getting up for a 2:20am game on a Thursday night this early in the year), I must say I thought the team played pretty well overall.  It wasn't as close as it looked.  Hurts is still not hitting on all cylinders but the rest of the O looked great and the D has to be given some leeway given how many player are out.  We are 2-0 with a long break until the next game and I'm not concerned at all.
