It does exactly show that mentality. It's week 2 going into a mini-bye. And we get...Baker Mayfield next. They'll be fine.

AJ and Jalen are boys. Not worried about it in the least.

Drew lots of attention after those first 4-6 snaps. Doubles and/or chips.

I was there so didn't see it live, but I saw the clips. I agree. A nothingburger.

I'm not worried about Baker. I'm worried about the stretch starting with the Dolphins until the first Giants game. The run game will be fine. I think the defense will be fine unless the injuries keep coming.

I don't like how uncomfortable Johnson is allowing Hurts to be throwing the ball. I don't like how he isn't utilizing the weapons he has and making adjustments the way O'Brien was able to with Jones to get him going. They chucked it deep, which is great, but he honestly looks over his head as an OC, which most sane people on here will admit. Can he do better? We all hope so, but they aren't going anyplace this year if he doesn't, and he hasn't shown any creativity or ability to adjust. Yeah, it's been two games, but again, O'Brien was able to show that in the second half of game one.

It's almost like we found out last night that our depth at the position isn't up to task.

I get that depth at Safety and LB aren't good, but depth there comes at the expense of somewhere else. This defense is built from the trenches, and I much rather have my depth be along the DL. Safety will come along fine, the depth is there its just not great right now. Sydney Brown looks to be good and will get more playing time as the season goes on and hopefully Blankenship is back next week.

I'd say that Johnson clearly did adjust starting in the 2nd quarter last night. On the first drive of the game, we had 7 called pass plays to 1 called run (I think all the Hurts runs were scrambles). Then 3 called passes leads to a punt and the fumble we recover. Then after 3 runs to get a 1st down, here come 3 pass plays and an INT. And then 3 more pass calls (I think the Hurts runs were scrambles) and a missed long FG. So 16 pass plays and 4 runs to RBs in Q1, and we look terrible. First drive of Q2, we switch to the run and basically aren't stopped all night by the Vikings -- we are only stopped by ourselves.

I questioned his decision making a couple of times. The one that infuriated me was the one where Dickerson got called for holding. There was a pretty good hole right up the middle (I have endzone seats and I'm looking right at it) that he could easily have gotten three or four yards and gotten the first down. Instead he tries to bounce it wide and because of that Dickerson's arms get extended and he gets flagged. So instead of an easy first down, we lose ten yards.

And for what it's worth, it just feels like Swift is gonna be a fumbler. He hasn't coughed it up yet but he doesn't seem that secure with the ball.

Swift did a good job covering the ball at the end of the game.  I think it's just his size that gives concerns about fumbling.  He doesn't seem to hold it away from his body.  I agree that he could have helped avoid the hold call against Dickerson.  It seems like it that gets called often enough that Dickerson should have been looking to avoid the penalty as well.  I don't think we want Swift to not bounce outside for additional yards just because that might draw a holding call.

Yeah, he ran the ball, but he didn't make any adjustments to be able to start throwing the ball better outside of one dep pass. When every starter outside of RG and RB is back in the same system Hurts shouldn't look that uncomfortable or have that much trouble finding people open. That's on the OC not Hurts and probably the most concerning.

I agree- Depth at the lines- Very critical......  In fact the Dline was helping to cover up just how bad our secondary back ups were. The pressure made Cousins make some errant and early throws.

Communication on the backend is the most glaring issue, not na surprise with a bunch of no names forced to play.

Pretty hard to drop in new passing plays in the middle of the game though. I think they need to take the next 10 days to radically change the passing game. They have a lot of man beating plays (crossing routes) underneath, but clearly they are seeing a ton of zone.

The Dolphins game is 37 days from now. That's an eternity in the NFL.

For those who got to watch closely, how did Jobe look overall? Does it make sense to have him, Slay and Bradberry on the field together with Bradberry in the slot?

Maybe third time is a charm for the OC to scheme how to use Goedert. It's no different than in bball against a zone. Park a player at the foul line. Goedart needs to be the zone buster and just park in the holes and he and hurts play pitch and catch until the D has to respond. Not sure why Johnson wasn't taking advantage of this. OC 101.

I mentioned this earlier, but Al Michaels said something along the lines of it being an ugly play. Multiple times.

That play requires a lot more skill and the right personnel than people think. Eagles ran it a few times with Minshew last season and were not as successful. I think there were even a few teams that tried it last year and weren't successful either.

The players that line up behind Hurts don't even push him, they are solely focused on looking for the ball to pop out and jump on it. Plus it frees them up more for any possible wrinkles they want to use. I know people love to hear the stat of Hurts squatting 700+ lbs, but that's what allows him to be so successful with that kind of play.

I heard his "ugly play" comments as grudging respect.  Herbstreit's reaction to the comment also displayed respect.

He looked ok. I do think that's the proper nickel package against most teams moving forward.

"Up to task" or "not sufficiently developed yet"?

Johnson deserves blame but how much of this is also on Sirianni's game plan and passing concepts.  I am not sure what the game plan is against blitzing but the screen game wasn't a good solution.  I also think they need to look at how to attack drop 8 coverage.

We agree there. But why doesn't the playbook have options for what they knew they'd face against the Vikings? They couldn't have come up with anything new this offseason? We always hear defenses catch up to what you are doing. Part of improving is self scouting and coming up with ways to beat what is coming.

Distinction without a difference if we're talking about this season.

I really don’t think Bradberry is going to be that good in the slot outside of certain matchups.

Missed the tackle on addison for the TD. Pretty sure jefferson torched him him a couple of times but he did slay too

Yeah, I feel like Ertz was a master at that -- find the soft spot in the zone and sit down. Goedert and Smith should both be good at that.

Very true as well. I mean he's watching what is happening and is heavily involved as you said with the concepts. The guy who played like the SB MVP looks that uncomfortable out there in the same system with most of the same players around him. That shouldn't be happening.
