We agree there. But why doesn't the playbook have options for what they knew they'd face against the Vikings? They couldn't have come up with anything new this offseason? We always hear defenses catch up to what you are doing. Part of improving is self scouting and coming up with ways to beat what is coming.

I think they have been surprised by the amount of zone they are seeing, which is somewhat understandable week 1. Less so for week 2. Maybe the short week made it hard to adjust radically, but they need to for week 3.

Outside of a crossing route that Jefferson won easily, I thought Slay made Jefferson work his arse off. He made some incredible contested catches last night.

Probably. With two of the top WR in the league and a top 10 TE they should have the tools to get something done.

Distinction without a difference if we're talking about this season.

I respectfully disagree. The one you used applies to all 20 games of the season.  The alternative one can evolve and change as the season progresses.

What's frustrating is that this type of defense is where Goedert should FEAST, but he has been non-existent. Just run 8 yards, settle into a soft spot and catch. Over and over again. People are betting Hurts won't be patient and take the TE/RB underneath throws. He needs to (and Johnson needs to call them).

I think they definitely were surprised by how often they dropped 8, but they shouldn’t be surprised by zone. We probably faced as much zone as any team last year.

For those who got to watch closely, how did Jobe look overall? Does it make sense to have him, Slay and Bradberry on the field together with Bradberry in the slot?

I thought Jobe played well for the most part. He was definitely responsible for 1 TD where he got beat and fell trying to tackle the receiver. There was another TD that looked like miscommunication, either he was supposed to follow the receiver or he didn't communicate he would pass them off correctly. I texted my father that Jobe was doing well and holding his own literally right before he let up that TD, so that came back to be quiet.

A good thing about injuries is it gets some players more experience, and I think Jobe deserves some more playing time. He just needs more time on the field to iron out some of those communication issues, but he definitely didn't look incompetent out there like some of the CBs they have put out there in the past.

Vikes must have 8 turnovers so far this season , some sloppy play , others some good hitting

Fair point, I guess more of the 8 deep zone. Which again we need to run at and also use the TE.

I have my doubts that we'll see adequate evolution from them this season. I think we'll have to look elsewhere, although one other option once Reed comes back is to go heavy nickel with Brown, but that's predicated on having a third competent safety which it appears we do not.

No matter what happens .... Shula was the better coach

The one bit of "humor" that was in the game was that Barnett was only in for 14 snaps and he still was able to perform a massive "what were you thinking?" penalty.

Which was that?   The offsides at the end was on Street, I do believe.

Did anyone happen to notice/hear the "Woody Hayes" comment by the Prime broadcast team last night?

I did.  From Al Michaels.

I find it more comical that there are dopes that watch and follow people like this, as if they "have any credibility" ..... who are these people deprived of any life what so ever that would  waste time watching content like this?

DeVonta will ultimately be the WR they keep and AJ traded in a couple years.

I really don’t think Bradberry is going to be that good in the slot outside of certain matchups.

Yup.

Against the Bucs with their big WRs, it should be fine.
Against the Rams with their small, shifty WRs, it'll be a disaster.

Slay played well against him.  The Vikings were moving Jefferson around to avoid matching up against him which tells you what they thought.  I will also say that Edmunds probably deserves some credit for the Jefferson touchback fumble.  He didn't make the tackle but did not him out of bounds and twisted his body away from the ball.

With all the complaints about the back 7. With Dean, Morrow, Cunningham and Evans. In due time, actually think we have upgraded there from last season as far as depth. At safety, Evans is decent depth as 3rd safety and better than Wallace. So Brown's emergence by end of year will hopefully be an upgrade over Epps. This defense with a good running game like last night will be plenty fine. Won't be perfect, but neither was the Chiefs last year. Feeling great at 2-0 today! They will figure this out and how to beat this blueprint teams have tried to create. Ultimately,  Eagles will take what is given to them and not force the issue. Too much talent here. Remember Mahomes having to adjust in the same way and not just count on the explosive plays to Hill. Need to be patient, just like from the 2nd quarter on and they are dominant against most teams.

Hopefully, he can make a recovery. I think he's not given the credit he deserves as a player on here.  He's been a solid player.

He was kept out of the endzone. That's pretty much all that counts.
