That's a fair question and I acknowledge that you can't tell from screen shots and I can't capture motion. In my view, Jurgens pulled on time but took a false step as he passes behind Kelce. It's just a small kind of hitch but it was enough to make him late. The play comes at 1:29 in the 2nd quarter. If you have access to the all-22, check it out and tell me if you agree.

Jordan Hicks (#58) is clearly rushing in on the snap.  He isn't even thinking about setting the edge.  In fact, I'd argue that the play is designed for Goedert to block the edge defender on that side.  If you go back to your film, you'll see Goedert briefly attempt to get his hands on Hicks, but Hicks is going full speed into the backfield.

I'll score that play for the defensive call.  Not necessarily poor execution on our guys.

I don't think they will sell at all. I'd imagine they find a veteran or hope that Wilson turns in to what they thought he would be. Far too much invested in that team to sell right now.

2 games into the season no one is giving up this early. People are impatient

A reasonable view. Minnesota definitely keyed on Hurts on edge rushes. There was no hesitation on RO type plays.

One open spot on the practice Squad, as well as the impending move of Avonte to IR.

I'm wondering if they want to bring back Sermon to the PS. He had to go through waivers today so it makes sense they are holding a spot for him while he clears waivers.

Was only thinking if the Jets were 2-6 or something like that at the deadline.

They have a tough schedule ahead.

1) 3.85

2) 4.29

3) 4.22

4) 4.20

The final two were no step "get rid of the ball quickly so it doesn't get blocked" mechanics.

Thanks, it is easy to better understand the 20 yard return on the first punt.  The hang time on the second punt could have been better.  Would you say that the last two were acceptable given the intended short distances involved.  Said another way was 4.22 and 4.20 sufficient time for the gunners to be properly positioned to negate a return and/or down the ball before the goal line?

Some added context...

Thanks. Question: do you think he should have kicked the ball out of bounds on the last punt?

It's what I was expecting, so I would have to say yes. I would also suggest that it is almost a certainty that he punted it right down the middle based on instructions. Forcing a return did have some benefits, however. Because the Vikings were in a position where they had to try to block the punt, they were in no position to set up blocking for their return man. So the Eagles basically had about five guys surrounding the returner. It was (virtually) inevitable that he'd be tackled. Also forcing a return burned some time off the clock, which ultimately gave the Vikings only one shot at a miracle. If they had had, say ten seconds, they'd probably have looked for a two-play sequence.

Jurgens was up and down. He was strong in pass pro and his drive blocking and combo blocks were sound but there was a play when he pulled that he was late. I single it out because it could have been a huge play and it's perhaps unfair because he was fine on the other 76 snaps, just not this one. It's a counter-trey that Hurts might have scored on if he makes his block:

Jurgens and Lane pull to the left. Mailata and Dickerson wall off the Vikings DL. The only guy in a position to make a tackle is #58. That's Jurgens' block.

As you can see below, #58 is already by him and Hurts has no chance.

Two yard loss.

If Jurgens makes this block, Hurts has Goedert and Lane in front of him and twenty yards to the nearest defender. But...

He's late. #58 is by him.

who makes the tackle. It looks like the DT was coming into position to make the tackle if #58 did not but...

Lane obliterates him. The outside corner is too wide to make the stop and Goedert has the safety lined up. Woulda coulda shoulda.

As I said, 77 snaps and I had to pick this one. The other 76, solid. Strong in one-on-one pass pro. Anchored really well.

He surely didn't make the block.  It looks like he was too close to the LOS.  It seems to me, however, that Jalen also is slow getting to the LOS.  It looks like he took a step back prior to starting forward.  If he's up on Johnson's hip the defender has ran out of the play.  Hurts has looked slower to me running the ball. I am not sure what that is but he definitely could have helped Jurgens by getting upfield.

That was my thinking as well.

I'd have preferred better on the last two but I'm giving him latitude for the fact that they were no-step punts to avoid any chance of a blocked punt. They were both under 1.8 seconds from snap to foot, which is kinda spectacular. He's not looking to sky the ball. He just wants to get it out of there as quickly as possible.

That's actually a really cool hat.  I just have been wanting to use that gif for awhile now  🤣

Yeah, I've never seen one like that. I'm sure someone just handed it to Johnson, so I doubt even if I DM him like Matt suggested he'd know.

Baker injury from Sunday is retroactive and eligible to come back October 15th. As he went from questionable to play last weekend to out for a month. Arizona tank is on! This kind of feels like Ertz situation in 2021 but in reverse. Long time great player and team leader who is banged up and unhappy about overall contract (although he got a bump recently but no long term deal). Payback for that give away trade of Ertz for a 5th round pick is in order here. Injury should keep his value even more reasonable here. Like I said earlier, a 3rd and 6th should get it done. Cards save money as well. Can throw in Barnett...as they need linemen.

BTW, Nolan Smith was in for half a dozen snaps and did nothing. Well, he got his feet wet. He looked tiny out there.

Nolan has no pass-rush plan. He's athletic, but not strong enough to have zero plan.

Hassan Reddick did very little the first 3 years of his career before he figured it out (yet he played ILB, but he also got a lot of pass rush reps).

Welp, my old man rant of hating how any player that does something good now is HIM just gained more steam. This is soooo dumb.

Shouldn't Smith simply be able to RAS his way to a dozen sacks as a matter of course? Y'know, being the Freakbeast he is and all. Why should have to bother with planning or getting stronger?

Dude needs to get stronger. His play strength just isn't there.

So you have an outside pass-rusher who can't win with bull-rushes OR technique. So what happens? Each OT just sets to the outside speed rush. That's why Nolan played well in pre-season. He out athleted backup OTs. In the pros, it's hard to only win with speed rushes.

If Nolan Smith doesn't get stronger (possible!), then he needs a 2nd move. It could be the Dwight Freeney inside-counter, the Josh Sweat long arm, a pull-rip, etc.

This is doable.

I dunno, man. With that elite vertical, shouldn't Nolan Smith be able to simply leap over offensive tackles in a single bound like Superman can leap over tall buildings?

But seriously, I think he looks a long way off from being the kind of player we were envisioning. I'm not saying he's a bust or anything but maybe just maybe there were understandable reasons why he lasted til the thirtieth pick. I wouldn't be surprised if some of his looks are eventually given to Patrick Johnson, who admittedly has flashed a bit at times in his first two seasons.

Jokes aside are we really burying Nolan Smith for his first 10 snaps?

A timeless classic. Nothing will beat the mccoy is a bust thread tho.
