That blows.  I was thinking this morning the only thing that can derail the Cowboys would be injuries otherwise they are far and away the best team in the league.  At least he signed his new deal before the season.

Highest rated OT, CB, or EDGE available. LB, OG, or Safety day 2.

My vote is EDGE. The first 3 moves of the offseason could be

1. BG retires

2. Haason Reddick is traded in lieu of historic contract demands

3. Derek Barnett leaves via free agency to pursue a deal bigger than the training-camp-body one we offer him

a nice big 260 lber to complement Nolan and replace BG

I like Bland corners on other teams

My vote, unsurprisingly, is OT. I agree about 1 and 3.

I can understand him not wanting to answer questions about it. If they won, why would he still be upset though. I think we all know that he was mad about his use in the offense. I am not sure whether that has to do with Jalen not throwing to him when he was open, play calls or something else.

He had 5 interceptions last year as a rookie and already one this year so he should be able to slide right in for them.

I’m guessing there will be a difference of opinion on who to root for tonight. In my view, while the 49ers are probably the bigger threat, you always worry about your own division first. So that’s why I’ll root against the Giants.

YMMV.

Meteor. No brainer for me.

They’re playing QB, not RB or CB

Well at 24 years old and playing or being in college football for 6 years is a massive advantage. Physically and everything else that comes with being in college for 6 years. so he should look really good he’s been in college for over a half decade. Whereas Caleb is 21 and in his 3rd year as a starter. I’d hope if he was in school for 6 years he’d have a ton of success in year 6 even if he did have injuries that limited his overall playing time and didn’t play 13 games every year.

I'm prone to a pragmatic approach and, while I agree winning the division is the most important thing, I'm confident the Giants will suffer about 8-9 other losses to help toward that end.  Every Niners loss will be most welcome towards the #1 seed for the Eagles, so I'm passively rooting for the Giants (even though I foresee a 20-point loss coming)

Way too early 2024 draft talk...

OL, DL, or CB/S the position of most importance in RD1?

All 3 positions have the same issue: we have extremely old highly talented starters with extremely young but physically gifted backups.

S is set with Brown and Blankenship moving forward. I don’t think drafting yet another young guy does much — Brown should be the starter next year. Bring in a cheap vet to be a backup and let Brown play.

CB, we have Ringo and Ricks. Both need to play if they are going to improve. Again, I don’t think drafting yet another young guy does much. If Slay drops off due to age, I would let Jobe, Ringo and Ricks battle it out for the starting spot and then reassess in 2025.

On the DL, our tackles are set, Smith is waiting to take over for Reddick, and Sweat is the clear cut starter at RDE. If Graham retires or regresses, then a DE becomes the obvious choice for me because you can more easily get the draft pick playing time in a rotation.

At OL a lot depends on Steen. If the coaches view him as the clear cut starter at RG, then everything depends on Lane Johnson. He just got an extension to rough 2026, so I don’t really see how you get value out of a high pick. You use a first or second round pick and he’ll spend his first three seasons on the bench. So overall I think the only reason to use a premium pick on the OL is if there is a RT prospect that you think will beat out Steen to be the RG, and view Steen as your 6th man backup at all the OT and OG spots.

TLDR: DE is the clear priority because the rookie will actually play, RT second, CB third, S a distant fourth.

What’s the status of Nolan Smith? Is he on the short IR?

NFL is a marathon man... it really is who's standing at the end with the least beat up team most of the time.

This is well reasoned. OTOH, do you have confidence in any of our backup OTs? I do not, and that includes Steen. Do you want Driscoll or Steen blocking Bosa or Parsons? That gives me nightmares. Bear in mind, too, that our pick figures to be very late in the first round. That projects to be a talented but raw player who will need a year or two to learn the game.

No, he's played the past two games.  Very limited snaps though.  Seems to be below Barnett on thr depth chart.

Seems as though a lot were expecting Nolan to play more. Probably because of the praise he was getting all offseason

I personally am hoping for Kelce to stay around for one more season.  Our only depth parts of the O-Line after this season are Steen and Fred Johnson.  Having to move Jurgens to Center and Steen in at RG leaves an already thin situation even thinner.  Drafting an early round OT plus a developmental OG seems mandatory ... unless the OG depth comes from Free Agency.  Extending Dickerson seems like a very high probability as well.

I agree with jr. Any RT taken in this year's Draft will need at least a year of seasoning.

Jobe for Parsons straight up. Win-win

Scary thing is Parsons could probably play CB just as good as Jobe.

I agree about OT as bigger need than DE.  Lane's retirement feels more imminent than Kelce's.  It's also just a valuable position to fill and I think the 2024 class has some depth at the position.

I am not sure BG retires.  He did mention retirement if they won SB 57.  I don't know if he considers it they do not.  I don't think Reddick is going anywhere unless they got a big offer for him.  It's possible he is frustrated about his deal but if they dealt him they would incur a pretty big dead cap hit. I almost think the Eagles are as likely to extend him as trade him.  He seems like a player they like at a position they value.  I hope you're right about number 3.

I would probably put EDGE as a good possibilty of a first round pick.  I think OT is a bigger need.  The team has young talent at Edge Rusher.  Sweat is in his prime and Smith will likely improve.  You also have a defensive front that does not rely only on a 4 man front.  You do not need a 275 lb DE.  Also you have Jalen Carter and Milton Williams who can rush outside at DE.  The team has heavily invested in the DT and DE positions.

CB seems to me to be the top need going into next year. CB is a position they highly value.    Slot CB is a starting position on the defense.  I don't think they are going to head into next year relying on Maddox as a starter.  They have potential at the position but they don't have reliabile long term solutions.
