This is well reasoned. OTOH, do you have confidence in any of our backup OTs? I do not, and that includes Steen. Do you want Driscoll or Steen blocking Bosa or Parsons? That gives me nightmares.

I agree that I have little confidence in our backups if Lane gets hurt. But does a rookie actually solve that problem?

Realistically, we’d have to move up into the top 10-15 of the draft to get a rookie that would inspire any kind of confidence as the backup RT going against top tier pass rushers.

If we make that move, they also need to be able to start at RG. That’s the only way the allocation of resources makes sense in my mind.

Looking at the available prospects, I don’t see a Shawn Andrews type who can seamlessly step in at RG. Fashanu is likely going to be a top 5 pick and while I think he could play RG, he profiles to me as much more of a pure OT. Joe Alt is similarly a pure OT to me with his height and length.

Of the blue chip prospects, Latham seems to me to be the best candidate to step in at RG while also being a quality RT prospect. That said, he sometimes struggles with speed, so I’m not sure how he’d fair against Parson type athletes.

After those three players, my conviction in a prospect’s ability to start against top tier pass rushers drops dramatically. Mims is an interesting prospect with his size, but struggles with speed. Morgan has the athleticism, but is raw.

Have you watched BYU’s Kingsley Suamataia? He’s the most interesting of the realistic prospects for us, but I’ve only caught glimpses of him. He has the combination of length, power and movement skills I think Stoutland would covet. But again, I’m not sure I trust him as a rookie to fair any better against Parsons than a second year Steen.

Way too early 2024 draft talk...

OL, DL, or CB/S the position of most importance in RD1?

OT

CB/S

WR (slot)

DE

Meteor. No brainer for me.

I would be concerned about the fans.  I mean is a meteor going to be able to get all of them in the stadium?

I personally am hoping for Kelce to stay around for one more season.  Our only depth parts of the O-Line after this season are Steen and Fred Johnson.  Having to move Jurgens to Center and Steen in at RG leaves an already thin situation even thinner.  Drafting an early round OT plus a developmental OG seems mandatory ... unless the OG depth comes from Free Agency.  Extending Dickerson seems like a very high probability as well.

Mailata - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -   Dickerson - - - - - - - - - - - - Kelce - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jurgens - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Lane
Gone after 2025 season - - Gone after 2024 season - - Gone after ???? season - - Gone after 2025 season - - Gone after 2027 season (but almost surely sooner)

Driscoll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Steen - - - - - - - - - - - - Fred Johnson - - - - - - - - - - - - Opeta
Gone after this season - - Gone after 2026 season - - Gone after 2024 season - - Gone after this season

This seems bleak.  Certainly Dickerson, Mailata and Jurgens are going to be players the Eagles want to keep.

I agree about OT as bigger need than DE.  Lane's retirement feels more imminent than Kelce's.  It's also just a valuable position to fill and I think the 2024 class has some depth at the position.

I am not sure BG retires.  He did mention retirement if they won SB 57.  I don't know if he considers it they do not.  I don't think Reddick is going anywhere unless they got a big offer for him.  It's possible he is frustrated about his deal but if they dealt him they would incur a pretty big dead cap hit. I almost think the Eagles are as likely to extend him as trade him.  He seems like a player they like at a position they value.  I hope you're right about number 3.

I would probably put EDGE as a good possibilty of a first round pick.  I think OT is a bigger need.  The team has young talent at Edge Rusher.  Sweat is in his prime and Smith will likely improve.  You also have a defensive front that does not rely only on a 4 man front.  You do not need a 275 lb DE.  Also you have Jalen Carter and Milton Williams who can rush outside at DE.  The team has heavily invested in the DT and DE positions.

CB seems to me to be the top need going into next year. CB is a position they highly value.    Slot CB is a starting position on the defense.  I don't think they are going to head into next year relying on Maddox as a starter.  They have potential at the position but they don't have reliabile long term solutions.

I know he plays DT, and the Eagles are loaded there, but Miami's Leonard Thomas is a freaking menace with an attitude. I would love to pair him with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. He and Carter especially would be a nightmare DT tandem.

I agree with jr. Any RT taken in this year's Draft will need at least a year of seasoning.

We have two 2nd round picks in the 2024 draft, so a move into the top half of the first round is possible.

Packaging our late first, our late second, and the Saints second should get us into the top 15. I doubt Latham lasts that long, but if he did, I think that’s a move Howie would seriously consider. We just aren’t going to be in a position to get another premium talent again unless we have an unexpected off year or Howie maneuvers us into another extra first round pick.

I haven’t been this turned off by the Philly/Eagles media with the coverage lately in a very long time. Them planting the seeds for an AJ Brown implosion, questioning why Hurts isn’t throwing for 350 yards while they sit at 2-0, etc. I’m convinced they don’t know how to cover a successfully run team.

The disappointing aspect about the injury to Diggs is that it will mean that if the Eagles go on to win the Super Bowl, they’ll be required to engrave an asterisk into it. Because, y’know, the Cowboys really deserved it. Totally.

I’m guessing there will be a difference of opinion on who to root for tonight. In my view, while the 49ers are probably the bigger threat, you always worry about your own division first. So that’s why I’ll root against the Giants.

YMMV.

You are correct, but I do not worry about the Giants right now.  I am also not worried about the 49ers... but I dislike them more currently.

The secret to San Francisco weather is to be there in the fall months, we get great weather then....but the coldest I have ever been in California was a June night at Candlestick with the fog and the wind...we wouldn't leave ...it was John Montefusco vs Steve Carlton that ended 0-0 after 9...Bobby Murcer hit a walk off in the 10th.

I really hate the new extra innings rules... it changes so much of the game.  14 inning marathons were legendary regular season games, but no more.  Just sad.  #Progress?

Ita long past time the NFL removes tackling and drastically shortens the field.

All 3 positions have the same issue: we have extremely old highly talented starters with extremely young but physically gifted backups.

S is set with Brown and Blankenship moving forward. I don’t think drafting yet another young guy does much — Brown should be the starter next year. Bring in a cheap vet to be a backup and let Brown play.

CB, we have Ringo and Ricks. Both need to play if they are going to improve. Again, I don’t think drafting yet another young guy does much. If Slay drops off due to age, I would let Jobe, Ringo and Ricks battle it out for the starting spot and then reassess in 2025.

On the DL, our tackles are set, Smith is waiting to take over for Reddick, and Sweat is the clear cut starter at RDE. If Graham retires or regresses, then a DE becomes the obvious choice for me because you can more easily get the draft pick playing time in a rotation.

At OL a lot depends on Steen. If the coaches view him as the clear cut starter at RG, then everything depends on Lane Johnson. He just got an extension to rough 2026, so I don’t really see how you get value out of a high pick. You use a first or second round pick and he’ll spend his first three seasons on the bench. So overall I think the only reason to use a premium pick on the OL is if there is a RT prospect that you think will beat out Steen to be the RG, and view Steen as your 6th man backup at all the OT and OG spots.

TLDR: DE is the clear priority because the rookie will actually play, RT second, CB third, S a distant fourth.

If a stud CB is available at our pick, it would be foolish to pass over the CB because of what we've seen so far from Jobe, Ricks and Ringo.  If by some miracle we end up with a bevy of young CB talent, I'm sure Howie would find a suitor for one to pay a handsome price.

That said, OT is likely the top priority... without deference to right or left side.  If a stud LT prospect is sitting there, I've got no issue with flipping Mailata to RT, he's proven he can do it.

Confirmation bias. They have some opinion of AJ Brown and WR1s, so to them this certainly has to be an example of a "diva WR."

It's the same reason people latched on to Justin Fields being a supercharged Jalen Hurts in year 3, or thought Carson Wentz was great 3 years after he actually was because of his TD:INT ratio.

Depends on the rookie.

I agree.  It would not surprise me at all if BG comes back in 2024.

They should also consider going to zero games for player safety.

We can just watch Madden sims.

Tragic but true.😩

If the Eagles make it to their 8th NFCCG since 2001 and possible 4th SB, the last thing that belongs in that conversation is Dem Boys.

Nobodies since 1996

I am pretty sure even that clown comes back every 27 years. Dem Boys are heading to 28+

What's up with Reddick? 2 games and he has been a ghost

Seems as though a lot were expecting Nolan to play more. Probably because of the praise he was getting all offseason

Maybe there’s a reason he fell to 30.

I feel like it took him a few games to hit his stride last season. He’ll get his with the way the other guys are playing
