I know the Giants have had a really bad 3 weeks, and their line is a mess, and Saquon is out.

Even with all of that holding an NFL team to 25 yards rushing is pretty impressive.

LOL Thibo-**** is trying to stand over 49ers and taunt them.

SCOREBOARD!

I really hate this stupid thing the defense does after an int where they all run down to the end zone and dance like a bunch of strippers.

Maybe I'm an old crumudgeon but I think it cringe.

He was actually pretty good for the Eagles even with bad knees.

Yup. Not bad at all. Would have been great to have him in his prime but Keith Jackson at that time was no slouch...

It must suck to feel like your season is over and it's not even October yet.

Not only was Daniel Jones given a bad contract, the Giants also reworked it for cap space.

They could go 3-14 this year if things keep rolling downhill and he is now a 69 million dead cap if they move on next year.

I am not saying for sure that both Jones and the Giants are going to suck the rest of the year but if they do, yeesh!

Yes a better pedigree.  As in what they did at college, not how they enter college at 17 or 18.   And despite this long list of accolades you mentioned (most of which were team accomplishments, not individual), one was undrafted, the other went in Round 4.  Not exactly highly coveted pedigree upon entrance to the NFL.

Sauce Gardner, for example, had a much better pedigree coming to the NFL than either of those guys by a wide margin, despite attending Cincinnati.  but, it wouldn't have to be him.  It could be Jaycee Horn, Devon Witherspoon, Christian Gonzalez, or Trent McDuffie.  All of them entered the NFL with a far better pedigree than Ricks or Ringo.  Ricks or Ringo came from Alabama and Georgia, but weren't looked at like these other CBs, and for good reason.  Ringo has a lot of physical tools and is very young.  Hopefully he can put it together.  But, I'll need to see it before I buy it.  It would be great if they work out like it worked out with Mailata, and as we hope it will with Blankenship.  But... there's a lot of questions about Blankenship still, and he's shown way more than either of those two so far.

I mean, I’m not sure how being all-SEC selections is a team accomplishment. Both were literally recognized as among the best players in by far the best conference in football. Both were recognized as top recruits in the entire country. They were both very, very good college players facing the best talent the collegiate level has to offer.

I think fans get way too caught up in draft position. Players can drop for a myriad of reasons that has nothing to do with talent or potential. Scheme fit, job security of front office and coaching personnel, team needs, etc. all influence where a player is selected. Outside of the top 20 or so selections there is likely a huge variance on where a player might be selected, you hear it all the time with teams saying, "we had so-and-so rated as an X rounder, but got him two rounds later.” They aren’t lying.

Ringo is a great example. He has elite physical traits and a rare skill set, but was a 20 year old entry into the draft and extremely raw as far as technique. How many teams had a need for a CB? Of those teams, how many needed that CB to contribute right away? How many teams in the NFL could afford to develop him for a year?

He has elite talent, but when your job is on the line are you willing to delay the return on investment? Not many teams are in such a position, but we are. If Ringo was a finished product he likely would have been a top 20 pick. Hell, a lot of mock drafts projected him as a first round pick in spite of his unrefined game.

Any player you draft next year will still likely have an extra year of development in comparison to Ringo, and yet Ringo will still likely be the more accomplished college player with the better pedigree and higher upside. And on top of that Ringo will already know the playbook which gives him a huge leg up on winning a camp battle on merit,

So unless Ringo is showing something in practice that is extremely negative, I don’t see any reason to burn a first round pick on another young CB who likely can’t beat out 5 guys we already have on the roster.

After a 6-1 record to begin 2022, the giants have only won 5 of their last 15 games. How exactly did Daboll win coach of the year last year?:nonono:

49ers might have the beat fans in the NFL.  That stadium is rocking for a Thursday Night Game.

Fair weather fans for the most part.

Still don’t know what exactly to make of Purdy, but a lot of people underestimated him all off-season

He’s solid but unspectacular. That definitely works on a team as talented as the 9ers against teams as talentless as the Giants and Steelers.

It’s a different animal when you are playing the Eagles or the Cowboys. Let’s see what he looks like 2 games from now.

I said "most".  You mentioned they played on top teams in the SEC and that one was a two time National champion.  Those are team accomplishments.  Then mentioned All-Sec.  The only individual accomplishment.

Very very good college players.  One undrafted, one a 4th round pick.  In other words, the NFL teams saw something lacking in their game and saw others as higher probability hits.  Like I said, these two could hit, but the odds are not in their favor compared to guys drafted sooner.  And until I see it on the field in the NFL, I will remain skeptical.  UDFAs can make it... Al Harris, Rod Hood, etc.  But they are in a very small minority of the UDFA pool.  Same with 4th rounders...  but we are discussing a decision the team will need to make in April,  and right now it's September. I'm willing to wait and see what the next few months bring.  No reason to have a final position on it right now.

I think some fans lose a little objectivity when assessing their own players and see more of what they want to see in that player than what is actually there.  If these guys were on a different team, my guess is the criticism of them would be a little sharper.

Their first half against Arizona last week was almost shockingly bad, a better team than the Cardinals would've been over 40 by the half, I'd have given you a thousand to one against them winning that game at half time.

Hmmm.... What is the name in front of "Giants"?   But, they made the playoffs and no one really expected that.   And Daniel Jones was far less of a disaster than in previous years.   And no one expected that.

Given that the Giants were missing their 2 best offensive players, I came away thinking better about that team. If the calls even out, they probably get within a score on a road TNF game. They'll be an annoying team to play all season.

With Diggs out, the 49ers are the biggest obstacle for us. They just have so many elite-level players who can take over a game.

This game is rigged

Lots of calls going niners way and all ticky tack.

Trent Williams throws a punch and just an off setting penalty.

Stupid stuff.

I still can’t believe Williams got away with that.

NFL senior vice president of officiating Walt Anderson spoke to a pool reporter after San Francisco's 30-12 win, noting that his crew reviewed the play using available video to see if any further action needed to be taken.

"We ended up looking at the video we had available to us, and we just didn't see anything that rose to the level of flagrant," Anderson said. "Which is the standard that we have to apply to disqualify the player."

Anderson went on to explain that to determine how flagrant a punch is, officials look at whether it was done with a closed fist, an open-hand slap or a stiff-arm to the face. According to Anderson, a closed fist punch "carries a different weight to it."

While Williams appeared to throw a closed-fist punch at Robinson, Anderson said the officials didn't see a replay angle that gave them conclusive evidence that he did.

"We couldn't confirm that 100 percent from the standpoint of was it truly a closed fist with a strike," Anderson said. "We just couldn't determine that."

Of course.....

Could be that it was Thursday Night, but SF just did not look like some unbeatable juggernaut.

Purdy was servicable, and made a couple of nice throws, but several bad ones that he got away with.

The interior OL was a mess in pass pro.

Their offensive players are just physical. You have to be able to tackle them and limit RAC.

Sydney Brown, anyone?

I bet the eagles might get 1 of the 6 give me calls the 49ers got in a single game

It looked like Robinson threw a punch too.  But I don't understand the NFL mentality on player behaviour from players like Williams. Dude is well known to be a dirty player and gets a pass far too often because he's such "great :LT".  The Zebras just didn't want the controversy and moved on, but he should have been ejected.  No question.

I do wonder if the Whiners will whine about their LT getting preferential treatment.

Funny thing is, the Giants look to haver regressed to their Giant norm. Nothing much at WR, QB is forgettable, DL is great.

I'm pissed not because of any conspiracy theories but because if you eject Silverback, their OLine is just 5 cardboard cut outs of 5 fat dudes.  Would have gave the Giants a legit shot to put an L on one of the main contenders in the conference.

Agree.  The Giants DL would have eaten them alive.  If Williams can't behave, he should be out of there and Shanny can discipline him.

If the NFL was serious, they'd do more than a fine to punish Williams; but we both know he'll get a 40k fine and the machine will move on
