Yes a better pedigree.  As in what they did at college, not how they enter college at 17 or 18.   And despite this long list of accolades you mentioned (most of which were team accomplishments, not individual), one was undrafted, the other went in Round 4.  Not exactly highly coveted pedigree upon entrance to the NFL.

Sauce Gardner, for example, had a much better pedigree coming to the NFL than either of those guys by a wide margin, despite attending Cincinnati.  but, it wouldn't have to be him.  It could be Jaycee Horn, Devon Witherspoon, Christian Gonzalez, or Trent McDuffie.  All of them entered the NFL with a far better pedigree than Ricks or Ringo.  Ricks or Ringo came from Alabama and Georgia, but weren't looked at like these other CBs, and for good reason.  Ringo has a lot of physical tools and is very young.  Hopefully he can put it together.  But, I'll need to see it before I buy it.  It would be great if they work out like it worked out with Mailata, and as we hope it will with Blankenship.  But... there's a lot of questions about Blankenship still, and he's shown way more than either of those two so far.

Good points.  Cornerback in college is a lot different than in the NFL in that teams rarely have multiple receivers with NFL level talent, same with QBs, rarely have NFL level OLs and what the cornerbacks can do.  There is contact until the ball is in the air and the PI penalty is not as harsh.  Lots of hands and bump and run. None of that flies in the NFL. Add to that the maturity/development level of players.  How many receivers come into the NFL with full route trees. In scouting CBs, they are really looking at athletic traits.  Knock on Ricks is speed and agility.  Knock on Ringo is stiffness.  Knock on Garner was his reaction takes an extra step. Knock on Goodrich is size and speed.  He’s a Sidney Jones 180 not a Avonte Maddox 184 in strength level.  That’s why they fell and why they are questions in the NFL. That said, draft level really is a questionable evaluator on DBs in the NFL.  Only WRs flame out more than CBs.

I'm pissed not because of any conspiracy theories but because if you eject Silverback, their OLine is just 5 cardboard cut outs of 5 fat dudes.  Would have gave the Giants a legit shot to put an L on one of the main contenders in the conference.

It's wild how they have the best LT in football and still manage to have a bad OL. On paper we're a really bad matchup for them given our interior DL strength, but having 2 guys who can do massive damage in the quick short screen game cam nullify that a bit.

Hopefully he spoke like him too.

So this clip at the 28 second mark was inconclusive if it was a closed fist?

I know he plays DT, and the Eagles are loaded there, but Miami's Leonard Thomas is a freaking menace with an attitude. I would love to pair him with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. He and Carter especially would be a nightmare DT tandem.

Why not just always be in a 5 man front with 6 DBs.

STOP ASKING TEs TO BLOCK EDGES

Could be that it was Thursday Night, but SF just did not look like some unbeatable juggernaut.

Purdy was servicable, and made a couple of nice throws, but several bad ones that he got away with.

The interior OL was a mess in pass pro.

Their offensive players are just physical. You have to be able to tackle them and limit RAC.

Sydney Brown, anyone?

TNF is a horrible product and nothing major should really be taken away from that game.  Short rest, less time to game plan, fewer players available than would be on a regular week.   Just a terrible product and not something that should be used as a significant benchmark.  Instead, the only measure is the final score... who wins and who loses.  SF is now 3-0.  That's a concern.   Eagles need to keep pace.    That's all that matters right now.  At the midway point we can get a better measure of where these teams are.

Here are two angles:

Yes, he clearly gave at least a 'headslap'... but was it closed fist or not?  Hard to tell from this angle.

Or, cut the TE who doesn't understand routine blocking schemes and play calls.  He needs to be lined up as an in-line blocker there, or he has no chance.  If the OL is sliding left then the ball either needs to be handed off to the RB left, or Jones should audible/call timeout.  Seems pretty dumb to think he'll succeed in a play action bootleg to Nick Bosa's side.  You have to be almost positive Bosa will crash inside off the snap -- which he does not.

Lots of formation and read breakdowns there.

Of course.  It isn't a definitive statement, but it indicates where teams see them at one point in the evaluation process.   New information is now available, but it is limited as all we saw was the PS games... and there's not a ton to glean from that.   If they get into regular season games, we'll get a far more accurate measurement - good, bad or ugly.  Right now, there's nothing on their resume that would make me eliminate CB from my list of priorities for next offseason.  Slay isn't getting younger, and his play seems to drop off as the season wears on.  He is likely to be back for 2024, but 2025 is a massive question mark.  Similarly... Bradberry is in a very similar situation.  Both of their contracts have easy 'outs' after 2024.  CB, to me, is one of the thinnest positions on the roster.   Top heavy, with aging vets.  And, frankly, no clear cut succession plan in place.  Even our nickel situation is extremely shaky.

Yeah... that's a clear punch... closed fist.  I screen capped a different moment... just before that.

Adam Caplan dropped a huge nugget of intel today on the pod:

"Here's a nugget for you, if James Bradberry shows on the injury report as a FP, that means he's almost cleared of the protocol"

NFL senior vice president of officiating Walt Anderson spoke to a pool reporter after San Francisco's 30-12 win, noting that his crew reviewed the play using available video to see if any further action needed to be taken.

"We ended up looking at the video we had available to us, and we just didn't see anything that rose to the level of flagrant," Anderson said. "Which is the standard that we have to apply to disqualify the player."

Anderson went on to explain that to determine how flagrant a punch is, officials look at whether it was done with a closed fist, an open-hand slap or a stiff-arm to the face. According to Anderson, a closed fist punch "carries a different weight to it."

While Williams appeared to throw a closed-fist punch at Robinson, Anderson said the officials didn't see a replay angle that gave them conclusive evidence that he did.

"We couldn't confirm that 100 percent from the standpoint of was it truly a closed fist with a strike," Anderson said. "We just couldn't determine that."

Of course.....

Wow.

Seriously I e could see a closed fist punch in regular time and they're saying they couldn't confirm it on a replay, what a joke.

The announcers even jokingly mentioned it as a left hook and showed a replay.

It's just a joke that this is the statement the officials and league would make.

I ve always thought Trent Williams was a piece  of trash so maybe I'm  biased in my opinions yet still think it was an obvious closed fist punch and should have garnered an ejection.

That the refs doubled down is just stupid

Yup it should be a mandatory bye the week before the game.

Of the road games I've been to, they are BY FAR the worst fans from a violence POV.  And I had a steelers fan try to pick a fight with me at Heinz Field during a preseason game.

Yup these Thursday night games are slop, seems the officiating in them is always sloppy as well, either one sided or consistently inconsistent.

Tough football to watch unless your team happens to be on the winning end.
