Washington fans are already dismayed about the decision to pick Forbes, who has hardly played and hasn't done much, over Christian Gonzalez, who already looks like a future star for the Patriots. Apparently their second round pick has done squat too.

 I like it.

He makes DeVonta look thicc.

I've heard good things about Gonzalez and also thought he flashed during the Eagles match up. Even if Forbes has lots of talent, I just don't see how he would hold up over a season in the NFL.

I always loved Carlos Emmons

Ditto. Opposing tight ends were rarely a huge factor when he was here.

The player I'd bring back from the past to this team would be Demeco Ryans.  Fills a direct need now but is a great leader too.

Some facts - the Eagles have an amazing number of the top of the line athletes.  Best of the year. All on defense.  Some aren't playing much yet, and even the ones who are playing don't play that many snaps because the Eagles have so many good players on defense, especially DL.

And so many of those players have done stuff on offense.  Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Kelee Ringo, Nakobe Dean,  all top athletes who have done good stuff on offense in college or high school.  These days defense pays more than offense,  and the best athletes who played both offense and defense in high school generally are moved to defense, especially the ones in the 230-300 range.
2 of those 5 are 4.3,  Ringo at 4.36 which is blazing fast, he was a running back, and he isn't being used much, he can do jet sweep.  207 isn't particularly light for a RB.  Teach him a go route and he can be the deep speed that Quez does.  Nolan Smith at 238 pounds 4.39.  1.47 10 split, which is amazing.  He could do any skill position.   I'd look at running back.  What can he do at 238 and 4.39 with those huge holes in the line that Swift was running through.   I saw him run on youtube or hudl,  people were bouncing off him then,  and I would have to think that if you showed him how to do that one thing, run between the tackles, run,  he might just be dominant.   Dean could be a rb as well, he's got the size, bigger than Jalen by a small bit, did it in high school.  Davis and Carter are not going to be as fast as typical running backs,  but as fullbacks they'd be great, and fullbacks can catch run and block.

And Ben VanSumeren who is on practice squad.  He should spend some time practicing running back, practice short yardage rushing.   Fullback at Michigan for 2 years is a good enough resume to be fullback in the NFL, and in college at least fullback does short yardage runs, at times.  If the Eagles drafted some guy who was the Fullback for Michigan, you might think that they would use him as a Fullback,  Big Back, Power Back,  short yardage back, 4th Q back.  6'2 231 4.45 40.   really strong.   good for pushing I'd think.  He's on the practice squad, I'd think he should be practicing that.

This is a lot of words to say I am right.

I think you mean Seth Joyner.

I liked Forbes skillset (ballhawk, refined in zone), but at 30... definitely not over Gonzalez who I think/thought is CB1 in that class despite Witherspoon.

Jon Runyan and Troy Vincent were the prize FA acquisitions for the early AR teams and were a huge part of creating the culture AR wanted but Carlos Emmons was such an underrated signing. Basically took the TE out of the game.

It's crazy to think that Emmons was 6-5 245 and he was covering TE. Says a lot about both positions and how they've evolved. Can't name many LB that size anymore, let alone one that would be covering the freak athletes at TE in 2023.

Correct.   Emmons was very underrated in his time.   When he left, I think the time had come, but Dhani Jones just wasn't nearly as good as Emmons.

BTW... Vincent pre-dated Reid.  He was added the first year Lurie owned the team.  He was added in '95, the same year they brought in Ricky Watters and Kevin Turner.

Now the challenge will be keeping the core group of those guys together. Lots of contracts expiring all around the same time. This is where Howie needs to shine next.

I doubt we retain Williams

Who can blame them.  So many names in so few years.

I know it seems like he's all over the field but he doesn't play on the d-line.

I agree.  I mean Ojomo looks to be a viable role player.  Tuipulotu has been productive.  Williams is a good player but not nearly as important as Carter or Davis for the future.

Emmons was one we let go of a year too early.  I think he would have been a big help on that 2004 team vs. Jones.

Emmons played back before the 5 yard defensive contact rule was enforced.

At 6'5" 250 and pretty athletic fir his size he was really good at beating TEs up at the line and all the way through their route.

By the time the 5 yard contact rule was enforced he was a giant so...🤷‍♂️

He was one of my favorite eagle LBs though, super underrated.

You are probably right, but back then, Joe Banner lived by the creed... better a year too early than a year too late.  Emmons had hit the magic expiration date of 30.   No way he was going to get another contract, unless it was a 1 year deal.  So, they went with a young player in Jones hoping it would work out.   Was a shame.   Another miss during that stretch was when they brought Shawn Barber in for a year on a prove it deal, then let him walk right after that season.  He proved it and then got big money from the Chiefs.

We've played two games in wet sloppy conditions and I can't remember seeing any of our players slipping and sliding like we did in the Super Bowl.

Gonzales also went to a premier head coach for DBs

Not sure if already posted but Yikes

This is a big game this weekend, need this home divisional win

This is the new NFL.  If you are a QB and you get hit, just stay on the ground for a few extra seconds... the flag will likely come out.

Yup, when the review official and the commentators have to twist themselves into pretzels to justify the call you know it's a bad call.

Can't really blame the refs though, they're just doing what the league has directed them to do, which is protect the QB.

Ronde Barber said his Ceremony was great outside of the Game but he gives a lot of credit to Jalen Carter, Eagles D Line and the Running Game.

:D:Eagle_smiley:

We ruined the ceremonies for Tom Brady & Ronde Barber.

Yup.

Every team we play should hold a ceremony for a  retired player.

2-0 so far this year💪

That's exactly what happened but it was frustrating at the time.
