Is it just me or are there a lot more opposing players doing the Eagles flying thing with their arms when they score? Has that always been a thing and I just never noticed?

there are definitely more players doing that...and i'm not even sure why.  other than TO back in the day, do eagles' players even do that anymore?

May not be a popular opinion, but in hindsight of the win the taunt was worth it

Dude was inconsolable when the position coach came over. Washington’s 1st round pick will have this over him for awhile

I mean he made him cry. He wasn't even that mean to him.  He just owned him all game.

If your bar is Super Bowl or bust, then yes this season is concerning. It's also October 2 and there are fixable problems.

If your bar is, "I just want to be entertained" then this season has been a success.

yeah but its not taunting according to the refs

We can agree to disagree.  I don't care about the Jets Or the Chiefs.   Even you just saying that the inconsistencies of the officials could pop up is exactly the point people are trying to make. It feels you aren't understanding that.

I understand it however the actions of what sauce did is still a penalty regardless of inconsistency from the officials in calling it. We know the officials are inconsistent with all calls. This isn’t exclusive to just PI/defensive holding. Look at offensive holding it’s the same way. It’s been a problem. We also have seen in the past 2 super bowls they are looking to make those type of call late in games. Even without the Super Bowl games, they’ve shown a tendency to want to make a call like that late in games. There is an inherent risk if you’re going to put your hands on a wide receiver over 5 yards down the field and hold him that you could be called for it the next time even if they haven’t been calling it all game. It is still technically a penalty and there’s a chance/risk you are taking the next time you do it with the officials we have. Especially late in games it been proven they’ll throw the flag

Should the official have thrown flag way sooner? Yes. But that doesn’t change the fact the contact and holding sauce did was a penalty. Should there be more consistency in the calls? Also Yes. But it’s that way nearly every week so sauce knows there is a risk and that they are looking to make that call late in games. It’s why I respect bradberry’s answer after the SB. He admitted it was a penalty and he took the risk thinking he could get away with it due to officials being inconsistent with calling it.

With this win, Nick Sirianni moves up to 5th all time in HC winning percentage amongst coaches with at least 25 wins

Wonder why Nolan Smith isn't getting many snaps?

For a first round pick you'd expect a bit more usage

From what I've seen, he's not ready yet. I saw all his snaps from last week and he is really slow getting off the line. He's a good half second behind everybody else on the DL after the snap.

I try to separate issues unique to the game vs those that seem to be persistent.

Sam Howell's mobility was a problem yesterday.  Playing against a DL with four 1st round picks was a problem yesterday.  Curious officiating was a problem yesterday.  Turnover luck was a problem yesterday.

The issues that need to be addressed, IMO, are red zone offense, cohesion in the secondary, and injury regression.

Agreed - not sure if he's being assigned a mush rush, but he hasn't threatened the offensive tackle's outside shoulder yet.

Carter needs to learn how to finish, I've lost count of how many times he has destroyed his blocker only to miss out on the QB.

Don’t forget red zone defense. The defense has been awful inside the red zone all year. They’ve given up 11 tds in 15 trips. That’s 73% of opponents red zone trips end in tds

If your bar is Super Bowl or bust then you aren't really a football fan who enjoys watching the games. If there's one thing age has taught me is you have to enjoy the season.  The other thing is that there's a long way from week 4 to week 18.

The Eagles are such a bad team that we're 6th in DVOA. We're also 2nd!!!! in ST DVOA

Eagles and Niners only team in the top-ten in all three phases.

I don't have any problem with getting a go ahead TD.  They needed a score to win and they got a score.  The taunting call was dumb and a weak call.  The defense had a 3rd and 17 and let them convert make it a 4th and short.  The defense did not make a stop.

To frame this another way, let's say in a hypothetical scenario where for that play (2nd and 4 with 1:49 left and WAS has a TO left) that Sirianni insisted on an outside zone run to Swift. And let's say Swift bounces it wide, rounds the corner and is darting down the sidelines towards the end zone. Do you want him to try to get the TD, or slide down in bounds inside the 10 yard line? Obviously you'd want the latter, right? To me that's the best case scenario because you can actually drain the clock and send out Jake for a last second FG giving you the highest chance to win the game while mitigating risk of an interception or a defensive collapse. The only risk left with that scenario is a blocked FG (but that's still less than the risk for the alternatives of an interception or conceding a TD defensively.)

So in that vein, I absolutely prefer a run called on 2nd and 4, not just because an interception (or strip sack) is the worst case scenario, but also because stopping the clock on an incompletion is really, really bad too. I'd rather play the odds and go with the higher percentage play, at least on 2nd down. Now if we're short and it's 3rd and 2, that's likely too far for a tush push but still I'd rather see a run there for the same reasons. If we come up short and have to kick it, then so be it.

Anyways, I think we've gamed this out far enough. I didn't like the call to throw there, but I can at least somewhat see where Sirianni / Johnson were coming from given that WAS still had a TO and picking up a 1st down wasn't exactly guaranteed.

The Eagles have beaten:

Mac Jones

Kirk Cousins

Baker Mayfield

Sam Howell

I wouldn’t put to much stock in DVOA

Need based. Let him heal and learn

I honestly lost count of the number of replays of Washington Offensive snaps that showed at least one of their OL plainly holding, I saw at least 3 (including the play inside the one) where they had a clear grip inside the collar and it wasn't called. This year the refs are lightning quick calling every ticky tack holding penalty on drive ending pass break ups,  but all but ignoring bread and butter O Line holding.

Yep. I rewatched the condensed game and it was definitely apparent. Based on what I saw, I also think the All22 will reveal a lot of illegal contact in the secondary too.

That's secondary cohesion.  Spacing, handing off, covering bunch sets, etc.

Interestingly, the Eagles have only given up 11 TDs all season.  Apparently all from the red zone.  9 passing and 2 rushing.

Steichen mattered.

Indy is 3rd in red zone efficiency.

We are 24th....with the same dudes from last season...when we were 3rd.

I brought this up last night and earlier in the day, i don’t think secondary is going be fixed unless they make trades. somehow go out and get a competent slot corner or they get a better safety then what they have next to reed and pushes someone like brown into a slot cb role or they acquire a safety can also play slot corner. Edmunds and Evans aren’t good enough. Brown is hurt and inexperienced so asking a lot of a rookie. The slot corner situation is concerning. Moving bradberry into the slot actually weakens you at two positions. You are weaker at outside corner with jobe having to play those snaps. And unfortunately bradberry isn’t a slot corner. So it is downgrading from maddox (who when healthy is a good slot corner) to bradberry.

Covey is in the concussion protocol. I didn't even know he was injured.
