That game was far closer than it should have been.  Gotta send Schwarber in the 1st... the way he was tracking to his left... needed to twist his body to get set to throw horrible decision by Watham... that puts them up 1-0 and Luzardo keeps reeling in the first.  Might tack on the other run with Turner... he was wild low early.

Sending Castellanos was a bad decision given the situation again... Cruz has too good an arm.

Trying to stop Bryce in the 8th?  Just brain dead base coaching.  LF doesn't have the arm either.  Know the situation, Dusty.

Oh, and Cruz said on a Podcast that this would be a sweep.   I think he's right about that.

Can’t be 3-14 with RISP tomorrow. That’ll lose you a game especially when there’s likely more runs scored tomorrow. I’d change the lineup to put castellanos at 5 hole, stott at 6 hole and realmuto in the 7th spot.

They won't be.

Wathan must have had the Marlins money line - cost us one run in the first and tried for a second in the 8th

I have to ask ... did you watch the game? That line can't block long enough for clean 5 yard passes.

yeah, Daniel Jones was sacked a lot.

Kinda curious about a trade for hunter renfrow. Might be fairly cheap because the raiders don't use him and he is good as a pure slot receiver. Could be a slight upgrade over quez there and quez cam focus on coming in as a deep threat. Zacheaus does some good things too, but renfrow gives us a better target that might sign a good deal to stay a few more years.

I see why Forbes deactivated his account. He had a rough one out there.

Random thoughts…

* Fletcher Cox has been really, really good. He’s playing up to his contract. I hope he gets his snaps cut some to keep him playing at a high level.

* Almost all of Blankenship’s big plays have been him coming downhill. It was nice to see cover some ground downfield on the McLaurin near-catch and a deep ball to Dyami Brown. I still wish we had more of a center fielder type at safety since Blankenship is so good spinning toward the LOS.

* Hurts showed an extra gear on that long scramble against Washington, but that’s been the exception. He just looks slower this season.

* I heard or read somewhere that Desai has gone away from pattern matching coverage to more traditional man to man coverage. I’m sure that is to do with some busts or slow reactions leading to open receivers. It’s something to watch down the line because pattern matching is a huge part of the Fangio scheme.

If the Phillies have a down fall this postseason it will be the offense, not the pitching, despite popular sentiment. The offense is too reliant on the long ball and don’t hit well with RISP and don’t play situational baseball and they suck on the basepaths.

The pitching is better than people think. Wheeler and Nola are studs despite all the misguided Nola hater ingrates, Ranger is cold blooded, nothing phases him, and the bullpen is good and deep. Seranthony is the best reliever the Phils have and they didn’t even use him tonight. Virtually unhittable. He’s not going to give up an earned run the entire postseason, even if the Phils make another World Series run.

RISP sucks we agree. Slow your roll on Nola. You will need some of that weed tomorrow when he is pitching.

Yeah, he had far too many snaps this week

I felt pretty comfortable last night, all things considered.  Only had a little concern in the 7th.  The rest of the game, I felt very confident the Phillies would win.

I heard Pat Kirwan mention something interesting yesterday.  After week 4 of last season, all the teams that were in 1st place, or tied for 1st,  in their respective divisions ended up with division titles.  All the wild card teams were teams that were in 2nd place, or tied for 2nd, in their division after week 4.

That was surprising to me…with 13 games left to play, there were no changes other than which 2nd place team would miss the playoffs.

I’m thinking that has to be an outlier season.  Usually a team or two that starts the season slow catches fire later on

BTW... fewer than 20k in attendance in Tampa.  Lowest for a post-season game since 1919, when they had a ticket handling issue.

MLB should be embarrassed.

I feel like working the zone is part of the art of the game.

F art

get the call right. Can still work the zone. And i say this having worn the tools of ignorance for many many years

When you have backups in, it's easier to play man coverage. The man coverage may be bad, but it's easy to point at a player and say "I got him".

Re: Slay. He did this last year too. He'll have games where he looks like he's not trying/slow, but turn it up when he wants to. At age 32, you can tell he picks his spots more. I'd be more worried about Slay if he's getting killed in man coverage. He's not. His big plays are in zone, which is why his "targeted at" stats look bad.
