Having to go into SF for the NFC Championship game is going to be a problem.  That's why it's in our best interest for SF to lose to DAL tomorrow.

That plus a win vs. SF at home later in the season gives us a 2 game lead on them for the #1 seed.

I'd rather take the cushion from Dallas losing with how the middle of our schedule looks right now. I don't want to say it but I don't think we're sweeping Dallas this year so I'll take a much higher chance of winning the division at this point.

Not a fan of that thinking.  Pache has been a disappointment in the bigs.   I could see the MLB experience piece, but then again, Orion Kerkering is on the roster, and he's got the least experience in the entire playoffs.   I think they just don't see Wilson as the guy he has been with the big club.  Super small sample size, but he's got a 0.313 BA, 0.500 OBP.  He's got 3 stolen bases.  He's walked a bunch, so he has good plate discipline.

Pache... Not close in any of those categories.  0.238 BA, 0.319 OBP... and only 2 SB compared to Wilson's 3.  Which is interesting to me.

Pache just doesn't seem like a great defensive outfielder, and given the lack of offense, his defense needs to make up for it.   It just doesn't seem to be doing it.  So, I would eliminate the platoon and just ride with Marsh.   The splits for Pache are BRUTAL.  0.314 vs. lefties, but a meager 0.121 vs righties.  So, he needs to come out as soon as they make a pitching change.  That's worse than Rodolfo Castro... which boggles the mind.   Meanwhile, Marsh is only 0.229 vs lefties, but that's light years ahead of Pache vs. righties.  And Marsh is just a better defensive outfielder.

I guess what I am saying is... I just don't see it with Pache at all.   Wilson has a tiny sample size, but has the 6th best OPS against lefties in MLB.  I think he's the only Phillies player over 1.000 OPS vs. lefties.

Pache is a better fielder. Coming up he was considered to be a gold glove caliber type outfielder. Wilson isn’t.

The splits are what they are it’s why they continue to platoon marsh and pache. Pache can only hit lefties and marsh isn’t very good against lefties. The other thing with Wilson is his splits are he’s hitting 250 against left handed pitching and 333 against righties. So platooning him you’re actually getting a worst hitter against left these because Pache is hitting 313 against lefties. Really the case should be made for cave cause he hits lefty and righties better than cave. But they want cave as a lefty bat

I guess going with a roster of 52 means they expect Nakobe back next week.

Yes.  Pache is a better fielder than Wilson.  Wilson is a better hitter than Pache.  That's what I am saying.  But, I don't think his defense makes up for his offensive liability.   Pache might have been considered a gold glove caliber type outfielder, but he clearly isn't comfortable in LF.  Seems he might only have that ability in CF.  He's had some shaky plays where he made the catch but looked awkward doing it... and the one that went off his glove was a bad route.

I'm not saying Wilson is a stud, all I am saying is I think he offers more (and specifically something different) on the bench than Pache.  Marsh is good enough defensively and does well enough against lefties that I'd rather just roll with him than play the platoon game.  Pache does nothing for me.

Now, that said... I hope he's series MVP and makes me eat those bolded words!

I agree.   Why elevate a punter when you are going to hang 77 on a team?!

Jurgens to IR.  Damn

Pennys first catch of the season

Wilson isn’t a better hitter against lefties which is the only time they are using pache and Wilson. Wilson is hitting .250 vs Lhp and pache is .314. The thing is if Wilson had more at bat against lefties and showed consistency, I think they would’ve went Wilson. Pache has way more at bats. It is hitting 314 against lefties and that’s the only time you’re gonna see him in the game. Realistically, cave should be the one that’s not on this roster except for the fact is a lefty. You can make the argument Wilson hits better than cave vs. right and lefty

Could just be for 4 weeks though.  And they wanted the roster spot for Dean in a week.  So... they don't have to expose anyone and can continue the juggle.

Mann needs to figure it out this week as a punter, or else we may see another guy come in next.  He's been no better than Siposs... if he was even as good as Siposs.

Well... what this really comes down to is the trade deadline.  They needed to add a right handed bat... and they whiffed.  That's really what I am lamenting.

Eagles playing it somewhat risky with their moves. Yes Dickerson has played C in the past and supposedly took some reps this week at practice, but if Kelce goes down it’s going to be bad. I think they would be better off leaving Dickerson at LG and plugging in Good-Jones at C instead of weakening two spots with Driscoll at LG and Dickerson at C.

@e-a-g-l-e-s eagles!   How good would Bellinger look in this line-up right now?    Stupid Cubs going on that winning streak before the deadline!

Kelce would continue to play even if his left arm was ripped off.

They probably should’ve went and actually got Tommy Pham. Although he’s a dbag in the locker rook. Because Pam has actually been really good for the Diamondbacks. I think people wanted Adam Duvall, but the Red Sox were never gonna trade him unless you were giving up serious prospects.

No lie i could watch the Stott slam with no announcers all day

Part of what makes this team special is the locker room chemistry.  Anyone added would need to work in that room.   No thanks to Pham.

yep. Cody Bellinger would’ve been the perfect guy. He can hit righty and lefties. And he gives you really good defense in any of the three outfield positions. The Cubs were completely naive thinking that winning streak was anything more than just perfect scheduling of really bad teams in July. you saw coming up at the end of august through September their schedule was going to get harder even with playing a series against the Rockies and pirates. The expectations for the Cubs this year was this was a rebuild. Even if they got to the playoffs they weren’t a title contending team. Initially they took a chance on bellinger so at the deadline If he bounced back they could haul in some prospects. It’s why both stroman and bellinger should’ve been dealt. Long term over short team satisfaction which they didn’t even get.

I think it’s why they didn’t make that move. Duvall was likely the one guy but really he was injury prone and you’d likely not be seeing Rojas as much.

He’s gonna just topple over after ever snap then

Anything that takes Rojas out of the lineup is a negative.   I think he's become a fixture for this team in CF... and this offseason he's going to be bunting 100x every day.  Once he adds the bunt to his arsenal, he's going to be a serious threat offensively.   Even as it is... he's been quite a surprise offensively.  0.304 is insane given what the book was on him coming to MLB.  And I think he'll get a lot of 2Bs and 3Bs moving forward... likely not much in the way of 4 baggers though, which is fine.  Batting him 8 or 9 for the foreseeable future, but having a guy that can create offense almost alone at that point in the lineup is a huge luxury.   Imagine a lead-off bunt single, followed by a stolen base and you immediately have a runner in scoring position and put pressure on the opposition defense... with the top of the order looming.

He just needs to learn how to bunt!!!

You tell him he's out of the game then... I'm not going to do it.

Bama really struggling this year , nothing easy for them

My guess is that they’ll simply keep Mann on the active roster and he’ll be the 53rd guy. And putting Jurgens on IR now rather than on Monday is because it starts the return clock a week earlier.

I don't know how many times I've watched it now. It's so great. The Phillies have blessed us with some truly iconic memories the last few years. Let's hope they can get a ring this year.
