Quez is only taking up space at this point.  He made a terrible decision to take the outside on that screen.  That would even be terrible if he was a high school player.  Its two yards and the defenders were at least partially blocked.  Just maybe he should have used his 1337 speed and chose the shortest distance between two points.

Hurts missed him wide open in the end zone because he wasn't looking for him.  The guy gets limited targets because everyone else is way better.

So what is his value then, a decoy?  Not much of a decoy if he never sees the ball and when he does, does little with it.  Maybe that was why the Rams left him twiddling his thumbs in the end zone.

At this point he's like Siposs was.  He's choked in key moments too many times. Even if he occasionally has a decent play you just know you can't count on him in big moments.  That's enough to move on

A lot of energy being spent defending one of the worst skill players on the team.

That screen play was the perfect example as to why you don't give the ball to a below average player like Watkins in high leverage situations.....especially when you have Brown, Smith, Goedert, Swift, Hurts.

Just absolutely inexcusable....especially when we're one of the worst teams in the league in the RZ. This is really not difficult stuff, the coaches just totally Galaxy-Brained that call.

I'd have been fine with the play call if the ball went to one of our good WRs.

Yeah. Quez can’t even be on the field in that situation. He’s too soft to get the first and we all know he’s too soft to block in that play. He’s useless there.

Even if the hole is closing and there’s no guarantee he gets the first, he darted outside so quickly that he basically tackled himself. He gave the corner plenty of time to disengage and let the sideline become an extra defender.

Other than fumbling it away, he couldn’t have been worse on the play. Watkins has some serious Reagor energy going on right now.

I thought the decision he made was a numbers one.  Five players converging there and closer to the hole than the outside was.  Bad thing is he allowed them to use the sideline as an assist.

I was actually surprised they left Quez in after that.

If the Eagles could just cut out those 2-3 mistakes per game theyd be steamrolling people.

Same with the Hurts pick.  We could have buried the Rams on that drive but instead dragged the game out.

I’m too lazy to look at the play sequencing or context to this, but pretty wild.

Quez has never been known for his open field running. In the few games he was asked to return kicks, he looked uncomfortably bad. It's not all that big a surprise to see a player that relies on his speed try to bounce a play outside --- even less so when that player is returning from an injury that kept him out of the last 2.5 games.

It was a mistake. It was one of many Eagles players made throughout the game. The only reason it's getting so much attention is because Quez has been in the fans' doghouse since last season.

In reality, any time a team doesn't convert a 3rd and two it's because at least one player made a mistake or had a bad play. Have we had any other bad plays from Quez this year in the 2.5 games he has played?

I kind of agree.  I think that play might have succeeded with Smith as the recipient but the ball was delivered too deep.  Let’s not overlook other instances of failure.  Brown not securing the pass on the sideline should count as a drop for example.  Hurts underthrowing in the end zone for an interception.  But the Rams had more failures by far.  Part of that is human nature.  Part is success by the other team.  The play overdissected of Watkins may well be because he gets so few opportunities.

FWIW it does seem as if they use Gainwell more when they're trying to kill clock. That's not to say that Swift isn't clearly the better runner right now, but I think that's at least a small part of the equation.

Getting away the Quez-aster of a screen, can someone explain Goodrich going from cuttable to starting in the slot to being such an obvious disaster that he was benched for Roby?

Goodrich had no prayer of playing well in that matchup.

That screen was doomed because the design had the ball too deep and the WRs blocking at the LOS not the yard to gain.  There ended up five Rams to the Eagles three.

Quez could have had a Charlie Banks kind of moment against the Rams.  That said he more reminds me of Featherstone

Yeah, there’s no way it’s as simple as Swift>Gainwell, and I know they punted on one drive by calling that dumb off-tackle run by Gainwell in third and 11 at the 16. CE mentioned the other day that we’re passing too much in the RZ, so maybe that’s part of it in Gainwell drives?

Goodrich has the bad mix of below-average athleticism and bad confidence. Dude was terrified of Kupp pre-snap. Apparently he looked good in camp, but if you don't have good confidence at CB you're a goner.

Look at Jobe and Ricks. They think they're good CBs.

He needed two yards. He needed to put on his big boy pants and run straight ahead. You know, use his blockers a bit.

The play-call and blocking were on point.

Even if Watkins gets a yard, we go for it on 4th and 1 and convert. Instead he loses a yard and we kick a FG on 4th and 3.

Watkins needs to man-up. Those were DBs! They weren't even LBs.

Nick said it was because they didn’t want to push Roby.  They used all three in the nickel.  I think it comes down to communication amongst the DBs.  Goodrich, at this point has the most practice at the position and thus the most experience with the other four, albeit that experience isn’t great because he hadn’t practiced much with the starting DBs until McPhearson went down and that was limited until Maddox got hurt.  Ricks, who also saw snaps has two partial weeks of practice at the nickel.  The nickel is going to be a work in progress for the Eagles for a couple more weeks.  Yes, it is next man up but it’s a choreography type thing.  The safeties have an advantage because they were rotated all preseason so they had some familiarity with the other DBs.  Watch the All22 and you can really see the communication going on, especially with Blankenship and Evans.  On TV, where you can’t see all the DB play, watch presnap on bunch formations.

I don’t know how anyone can watch this play and defend Quez even slightly. Without a doubt it’s a first down if he splits the blockers. He’s either too dumb to understand the situation or too scared to take on contact.

That’s exactly what I thought, but Goodrich could barely line up against Minnesota.

That's exactly it.  Watkins showed zero situational awareness; he wanted to turn a 3-yard pass into a 15-yard run and got nothing.  Catch the ball, run between your blockers, and move the sticks.

Devonta's reaction says everything.

I have no proof but I'm a conspiracy theory guy.  I think the Braves bats are juiced.  That one hand swing had no business leaving the park.

They have 5 players in the top 40 of all of baseball in average exit velocity and 6 of top 63

#2 Ocuna
#4 Matt Olson
#17 Austin Riley
#32 Marcell Ozuna
#40 Sean Murphy
#63 Michael Harris JR

Kyle Schwarber is top Phil at 16 and Bryce is #34

They have 7 guys in the top 45 in all of baseball with average home run length

#3 Ocuna 420 feet
#15 Austin Riley 414 feet
#23 Matt Olson 411 feet
#25 Michael Harris JR 411 feet
#39 Marcell Ozuna - 409 feet
#40 Sean Murphy - 409 feet
#45 Orlando Arcia - 409 feet

To put that into prospective Aaron Judge average home run length this season is 408 feet and Schwarber is at 407 feet

On ITB they said they got word that Roby wasn't in shape to play a whole game and they wanted to ease him in and that plan got tossed when everyone else struggled so badly
