Soooo good

The final conclusion is one I've arrived at weeks ago.  Defense = bad.  Offense = bad.   Super Bowl = No.

Maybe Siri is scheming the most vanilla of vanilla offenses as a ploy ahead of the playoffs…

Saw it mentioned earlier but didn't realize he was a captain too.

SBs will either be won by Mahomes at 250m or Brock Purdy at 1m.

Jalen Hurts at 250m isn’t going to work.  Not unless he takes it to another level.

The $$$ is the reason we don’t have linebackers or safeties.

I love how most of the blog talked ish about Purdy all year and now suddenly he's one of only two QBs that can win it all this year.

I’m not sure why I am still doing this, or why I think we curb stomp the Giants, but…

Eagles 34

Giants 13

Hurts with 4 total TDs

It definitely was a lot more fun four weeks ago, but fans is short for fanatics, so we all have a bit of a screw loose

The Game Score Predictions window for the first Giants game is open

There are 19 predictions that have been submitted in my absence and now are recorded.  11 are for an Eagles win and 8 are for a Giants win.  The average predicted score is Eagles 24 Giants 18.

As always, please tag your prediction post with @mattwill that way I will be sure to see/record it.  Score predictions can also have an optional "Bonus Pick" tiebreaker prediction.  So far over the course of the season 135 different EMB posters have made at least one prediction.

For anyone who missed the results of the first 14 weeks, the post below takes you to a recap of those results

Amazon you also get free deliveries on anything you would ever need to buy online.

I don't really buy that much stuff online.  Once in awhile maybe.

I never talked ish on him.  He’s not Mahomes but a qb playing on a high level on his contract is one of the paths to a SB. That was us last year.

Well... it was one post from one person...

But I will say this, Purdy seems almost ideal for Shanahan.  He's a really good game manager (no slight intended in that phrase).  His job is to facilitate getting the ball to the playmakers in the right places to allow them to make the play.  And he's doing it masterfully.  Nothing he does looks spectacular, and that's by design.  Shanahan wants to give his QB easy throws, which leads to high completion rates and chains moving... and when you add in the playmakers the 49ers have, you have explosive plays.  When you take one away (like Samuel), you see that the offense falls way down.

Purdy is what he is.  He is a great distributor, he's not a playmaker on his own.  His success will be reliant on those around him.

@mattwill

Eagles 24-20

Swift breaks 40+ yard TD

Before Purdy joined the 49ers, they were coming off a Super Bowl and a NFCCG appearance.

With all this said, I wouldn’t be surprised if they took someone like Penix Jr. in the second round next year. Not as some hot take to overthrow Hurts, but as a backup they can develop on a deal cheaper than signing a vet second stringer. It would basically be Hurts with Wentz all over again. I don’t think the original goal with drafting Hurts was to overthrow Wentz. Just to have a guy to develop and as a just in case situation.

You know I hate left handed QBs for some reason and Penix has this weird, janky throwing motion.

But watching the Pac-12 title game it was crazy how accurate Penix was.  He was making throw after throw 20-30 yards down the field while drifting backwards or with someone in his face.  As an Oregon fan it was very frustrating but after awhile you just have to give him his props.

I don't know how good a QB Penix will be in the NFL but it seems he has the accuracy part down.

Honestly he had a nice little run last year but was still unproven.

This year he's continued to play at a high level and the team around him is probably the best in the NFL.

So why wouldn't you believe he and SF can win it all

I hope they choke in the playoffs btw.

@mattwill

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say we slow things down this week—less forced plays and more taking what the defense gives us.

Eagles - 27

Giants - 17

Bonus: Eagles D gets three sacks.

Most discouraging thing about this team isn't the defense. Maddox and Cunningham getting healthy, Ringo playing, the DL finding its legs again. Patricia settling in. There are enough viable scenarios to think the defense has a shot.

This offense is F'd.

Was listening to sports radio last night and they brought up a good point about the MVP.

Things can change with 3 weeks left to go but how can you give the MVP to Purdy when he plays with another MVP candidate in CMC.

Same with McCaffrey.  How can you give it to him when he's playing with another candidate in Purdy?

Has there ever been 2 guys on the same team that are both considered MVP candidates?   If so I can't remember any recently.

Of course he can win it, just as he could've last year, just as someone like Josh Allen or Tua can win it this year. Hell I don't even think the Chiefs make it to the AFCCG this year. But all off season and even earlier this season people were calling Purdy a fluke, a scrub, a game manager, etc.

Last duo on same team was probably Brady & Moss

Using money for the standard isn’t really a fair metric, even though I can understand why someone would seeing all the zeroes attached to it. That’s just how the position goes and it’s only going to go up. A lot of guys have and are going to continue to get monstrous deals because quarterback is the most important position in the game.

Hurts, Kyler, Allen, Herbert, Burrow, Lamar, Trevor Lawrence will probably be next, and the list will go on. They’re all kind of in the same boat success wise, but with Hurts and Burrow having Super Bowl appearances. The fear of starting over again or ostracizing your guy is going to put fear into teams perhaps overpaying for an already established quarterback. Above average guys will get massive contracts, even average to below average ones like Daniel Jones. You really have to be bad to not get a big deal or have your team be in position to take a next QB like Chicago will.

I think Trevor Lawrence has been, overall, underwhelming given his hype coming out. But is Jacksonville really going to move on from him and start over? Probably not. And that means based on the market, they’ll have to match a Hurts/Burrow/Herbert deal because that’s what the standard has been set to. That’s what agents negotiate off of. It was the same with Dak who is a good but not great QB.

Mahomes is the only exception. You can’t compare Hurts to him, but you really can’t compare any of those guys to him either.

Not about the gross koney but rather the net of the cap

The qb, when eating the cap, must do the most to influence wins and importantly the least to influence losses

This narrative about Hurts is BS. These "reports" when they're losing are a mix of media click bait & player frustration when losing.

Fans in Philly are pessimistic, negative and always looking for the problem, waiting for things to get bad, and want to believe the plausible excuse or drama causing an issue. Fans can't even enjoy winning seasons, waiting for how things will get bad. (This season they were 10-1 and fans were miserable).

The Philly media exacerbates this, their questions in press conferences are always confrontational. A lot of them are like TATERS given press credentials. Every time they are losing the "anonymous sources" come out.

Fans don't want to believe positive reports, players & coaches publicly praising teammates, coaches, the culture, etc. But after a loss fans will believe "sources close to the situation."

Now you add player frustration where even in public they make comments like everyone needs to get better and the media will run with narratives.

All we've heard about Hurts for years from coaches and players is high character, work ethic & leadership. When he's stoic on the sidelines during wins, everyone loves it because he's all business and focused. Now after losing, the narrative changes to he needs to be more vocal?

And that is based on media & fans seeing a couple shots during games on the sidelines. There are clips of locker room, pregame, etc where he's very vocal, shouting, hyping guys up.

Hurts also co-led a player only meeting with a couple veterans BG and I believe Kelce a couple weeks ago to hold the team accountable.

The story that wouldn't die.
