My cable provider has acquired ESPNs NCAA coverage and I briefly saw the Penn State game earlier on.

Nittany Lion fans, you have my deepest sympathies

There's something to keep in mind when watching College Bowl games. A fair number of players who feel they're likely to be on the NFL track have opted out of playing in Bowl games, they don't want to risk injury in what seems like a rather meaningless game, it's business for them. So the quality of play isn't great. I don't think Penn State had many players skip the game so not an excuse for a mediocre performance. Penn State is often ranked more highly than they deserve, I'm not sure why.

I saw a little bit of the Georgia game, and as you say, transfer portal/NFL central.  Was a hard pass from me, but will record the games on NYD so my first day back at work is busy 🤣

Freak beast of questions

At least the game tomorrow isn't a 9pm or later start for the UK for a change. I had to subtly move some plans around to accommodate the game as I forgot 6pm existed for the Eagles this season.

Since there is a lull in the action, and we are nearing the finish line, here are the season-long prediction results sorted by high to low winning percentage.  The red highlighted names put themselves onto IR during the season.  The first three names are new predictors this week.

Interesting take by Jimmy Kempski

Eagles' Britain Covey is the best punt returner in the NFL this season

He correctly includes the impact of Covey's low rate of Fair Catches.  The only thing that is missing is the proportions that unfielded/downed punts and Touchbacks are.

By my count the Eagles have been punted to 54 times, plus one having been nulified by a penalty ... the Jalen Carter penalty this week.

Covey has 28 returns and 15 Fair Catches.  There have been 3 Touchbacks and 6 punts that have gone out of bounds.  That leaves only 2 punts that hit the ground and rolled.  Pretty amazing.

Subtle like "GFY, I am watching the eagles (I don't care that it is your birthday, honey)?"

@mattwill

eagles 34

cards 27

Yup. I'd assumed it was a Monday morning watch, not a live one, until earlier on. And it's not on our TV, so I don't need to navigate the bad coverage on their end. Its winning all around

Yep, he is so much better this year at everything.

The list I saw showed six PennSt players skip with only one from OleMiss.

Did Penn State have that many skips? I don't know, I thought they had 3 or so. I know their L. Tackle passed.

If Lions lose and we win out but 49ers win out does 49er still get the 1st seed?

Yes, we'd be the 2 seed in that scenario.

100% rooting for a Cowboys win tonight.  Pure nonsense for any Eagles fan to root for an outcome where Lions still control the #2 seed.

Root for a Lions loss, that way you don't have to root FOR the Cowboys but the outcome is the same.

Go Dawgs!

This team deserved a chance to defend their title.

Finding good coordinators with no aspirations to be HC is likely difficult regardless of age. Seems like coaches like we had in JJ are rare. As soon as guys get nominal success it seems like they suddenly become eligible for HC positions.

It's not really about aspirations so much as likelihood for them to be hired, especially in the short term. Keep in mind that in a lot of ways, the move to younger coaches is a zero sum game. The positions in the NFL are limited, and if younger coaches are being pushed to be hired more, then in turn, older coaches will be hired less. You can take advantage of this pretty easily.

Been told all week it makes sense to root for the Girls. Nope, sorry cant do it. Go Lions.

Root for the Eagles (best interest). What's best for the Eagles, for the Lions to win or for the Lions to lose? A Lions loss is best for the Eagles (assuming we win out). A Lions win makes things (potentially) more difficult for us because the best we could get is a 3 seed.

Further assuming that we win out, it doesn't matter what the Cowboys do. If they win out too, they get the 5th seed. If they lose out, they get the 5th seed.

I really don’t think it’s that complicated.  The HC needs to be independent enough and fluent enough with a good system that the team can endure change at OC without blaming major problems on the OC.  Siri isn’t.

Of the top 8 head coaches in the NFL in terms of winning percentage (I will explain why I used 8 in a moment, it isn't arbitrary), 2 of them are defensive minded (3 technically, but I'm excluding Bill Belichick due to the obvious arguments).

Not only this, but of those 8, the eighth is John Harbaugh, which you may be old enough to remember, was Special Teams Coordinator (and then DB coach for one year) when he was hired for Head Coach, and is obviously still their coach all this time later. Forgetting the defensive head coaches, this one obviously is an outlier to your statement.

Not everyone needs to copy the exact same plan.

FSU is decimated. They are missing:

top two QBs,

top two WRs,

top three RBs,

top TE,

top 3 OTs,

3 of 4 DL, including both edges,

2 LBs, and

some secondary.

Personally I would rather the Cowboys lose tonight, which would allow the Eagles to screw up one more game and still win the division. Even with a win against the Cardinals, it’s no certainty that the last one at the Meadowlands is going to be a W. Lots of crazy stuff has happened on that final weekend. Even if we lose the tiebreaker to the Lions, it still gives us that shot to pass SF if they happen to lose against the Rams. That would put us into the 2nd seed, which wouldn’t be a terrible scenario either.

If the Birds exist the playoffs like many predict, then I want the Cowboys to have the toughest road and exist as fast as possible. Next in line to exist fast would be SF. I‘d be fine with the rest from the NFC.

and a partridge in a pear tree

Ladd Mcconkey has ne patriots written all over him. But I’d love for the eagles to draft him around the 4th-5th round.

also,

Eagles 28, Cardinals 20

eagles jump out to a 21-3 lead and then comically find a way to keep the cardinals in it until the last drive.
