They've had Penny sitting on the bench all season, they have no interest in utilizing running backs.

Penny is infinitely better than gainwell and Scott, yet never dresses. Swift is criminally underutilized, even if the eagles wanted to bring him back no way does he come back here.

Swift had the most carries of his career. I would be fine with his usage if Penny was up there in carries as well smh. No doubt in my mind they could have had damn near 2 1000 yard rushers with those 2. That's not their identity though... their identity is well... still hidden under the mask cause damn if anyone knows. Dr. Strange made everyone on the staff forget what it was.

As far as the roster for next year, here is where I am at:

RB -- Unless he is cheap, let Swift walk and go bargain shopping again. Gainwell is under contract, and Scott would be cheap. If Swift takes a 2 year, ~$8mm deal, then OK. Otherwise, spend cap dollars elsewhere.

OL -- Kelce is likely gone, so Jurgens moves to center and Steen is the RG. I don't see Lane walking away, but look for his replacement in the draft. Bring Opeta back if he is cheap enough. Extend Dickerson.

DE -- Either first round pick or splash FA signing (or both). Short extensions for Reddick and Sweat maybe. Graham is likely gone (if he wants to come back for peanuts to get his 15th year he has talked about...OK). Biggest need on team.

DT -- Let Williams play out his contract. If the number is low enough...bring back Fletch. He is still playing well. Give Ojomo more of a chance.

LB -- FA splash signing, along with real competition for Dean at the other spot. At close to the vet minimum, I'd consider Cunningham.

CB -- Bradberry post June 1 cut. Slay is back (contract), let the kids fight for CB 2. Draft

S - Reed and a FA

EDIT: Yup, totally forgot about Sydney Brown

RB - I think bringing back Swift makes sense.  Gainwell isn't an adequate replacement.  Swift should be relatively inexpensive.  He's young and has low mileage.  My guess is the market will be set by Saquon and Joseph.  I think they should consider paying him around what Sanders got. He's a better RB than Sanders.

OL- OT is a big need.  I would like them to take one on day one or two.  I also think signing a mid-level FA as a back up may make sense.  Josh Jones with the Texans or even Isaih Wynn.  Wynn could be potential competition to start inside.

DE - I don't see them signing a big FA.  DE is a priority pick in the draft.  I believe they will extend Reddick over Sweat.  Reddick is the closest thing we have to a playmaker on defense. He probably won't be cheap.

LB - I don't know who would be a splash FA.  Maybe they would sign Patrick Queen but it seems unlikely.

It's not the record, it's not the losing, but it's the way this team plays,  it's the locker room and the players on the team. If a coach loses a locker room, good luck getting it back. The team is a mess. Who fires their DC but doesn't really fire him but still fires him? That's disfunction. That's on the HC. That's what a desperate coach does.

Who are they more invested in?

Sirianni for 2 more years at about $12 million?

-or-

Hurts- $250 million

AJ Brown- $100 million

DeVonta Smith- traded with the Cowboys (handing them Micah Parsons) on his way to a $100 million

You don't fire a coach for getting to the playoffs in their first 3 seasons. It's madness, even madder that there are people thinking it out there as a way to resolve things. There are no guarantees the next coach will be any better.

There will be change coming, but you can argue that the firing the coach won't fix the historical lack of investment in 2 positions or the FO trading lower picks for players and rarely getting a good ROI on them.  If you fire the HC, you have to fire the GM too for their part in it.

The recent downturn has been incredibly annoying, but plenty of teams would not hesitate to hire Sirianni if he became free. The fact some are almost flippantly walking him out of the Novacare perhaps says a lot about them.  Success is not easy in the NFL, and the past 8 weeks have shown that.

Of course, its easier to fire a coach than replace the players, but who is  to say a new coach won't look at AJ or Hurts  and say nope, they don't fit what I do in  years time, I want them out.

What Siranni needs is an experienced voice on the O and a new DC who has presence. Some of the politics of the team will then quietly go away, as will finding a long term solution at WLB and MLB.

Think they need either brown to become like CJGJ or they need to find another CJGJ. I think Blankenship is closer to a Marcus Epps type guy. I also think relying on 33 year old slay to stay healthy and bradberry next year is a recipe for disaster

Bradberry will be cut.  Corners will be Slay, Ringo, Ricks, Rodgers coming off suspension and whoever doesn't get cut for the rest of the depth.  Safeties will be Blankenship, Brown and a veteran free agent (Byard gone).

Ringo nor Ricks can play in the slot. They're going to need to bring some guys in.

A true DE doesn't help much unless they change their defensive scheme. Sweat is a true DE. BG is a true DE. They are the only DE on the team. Together, they are playing about 76% and 33% of the snaps. Even if you bring in a true DE, all he's doing is taking BGs snaps and some of the heat off of Sweat. Both of those things are needed but DE isn't going to impact this team as much as changing schemes are. They build this defense around the position Reddick plays. It's not a sustainable defense unless you have Reddick playing like he did in 2022.

I do agree they need to bring in a DE, but they need to bring in a DE and go back to a 4-3. I posted yesterday how I would like to see the DL look next year.

Agree, however the current setup would work better with 2 quality LBs who can blitz (if the DC would call blitzes), help stop the run and not be a liability in the short passing game.  It's a combination.  But as you noted, BG is only 33% of the snaps.  He's a rotational guy so they really have 1 DE who plays full-time snaps.  I didn't say adding a DE was the only thing needed, I also a new DC (which means scheme change), new quality LB as well.  They also need a free agent replacement at safety after Byard is cut, depth at DE and other LBs as well.  But if you had to only make 3 top moves on defense, I'd get a DE, LB and new DC.

1 hour ago, NCiggles said:

The chances that the Eagles add a quality DE & LB along with a better DC in one offseason seem like the same chance a snowball will have in hell.

Well, but they've already changed DC from Desai to Patricia and they still stink so both may be gone and hire a new DC.  Lurie won't be pleased with this collapse, he will demand change.  When I say quality LB it doesn't even have to be a stud.  Some quality guys were Kyzir White, Bradham, TJ Edwards.  They'll never prioritize LB like we'd like them to, but at least get guys who aren't a liability.  So if you sign one quality LB to pair with Dean and then have Reddick and Smith as pass rushers, then you can draft a DE in the 1st or 2nd round since they do prioritize D line in the draft.  That's not that unreasonable.

With even average play design and calling, cover zero is one of the easiest blitzes to beat with the type of man beater WR’s and TE we have.

The fact that we are so bad at this is the single most glaring example of our offensive coaching stupidity.

Dean when healthy has been darn and away our best linebacker.

No he wasn’t…he was pretty bad for the 3 seconds he was healthy.

Gonna need 2 linebackers, plus 2 corners. 1 outside, 1 slot. Plus a S. I guess you can come back with Maddox but he can't stay on the field and Roby isn't an answer for next year so an insurance policy will be necessary.

They need more than what I listed, I noted the top things that would make big impact.  They add 1 quality starting LB to pair with Dean and Reddick/Smith as pass rush specialists.  Yes, also add another LB for depth.  Add a starting DE and I'd also like to see another DE for depth.

They won't be adding 2 corners.  We may want them to, but fans keep bringing this up while not thinking what this front office does and how they operate.  In their mind they have Slay a returning veteran who played really well this year.  Bradberry will be cut, Maddox should not be re-signed he's done.  But they like Ricks and Ringo as young players who played well as rookies, they will say give them another offseason and they will be solid.  They have Isaiah Rodgers coming off suspension, no idea what to expect but there is potential there and they'll point to his prior performance and think the trade was a steal (maybe it was, we'll see).  That's how they'll see it. At safety they will probably start Blankenship and Brown and Byard will be cut and replaced with another cheap free agent.

They also will point to D line pass rush as a priority, they went from a great pass rush last year to a bad one.  So they'll get a DE high in the draft and convince themselves Reddick and Nolan Smith will benefit and once they are rushing the passer, Nakobe Dean back in the lineup (can he stay healthy) they will think that's enough.

I'm not expecting a 1st round pick at LB. That guy would have to be the top guy on the board by at least a tier.

But I think you have to throw a bunch of smaller resources at it. A long term contract type of guy in FA. A 2nd or 3rd round pick. The top UDFA LB.

So we are using escape rooms instead of the term team meeting. Any time there’s team meetings it is a bad sign

The key metaphor is the players going to an ESCAPE room...

Kellen Moore's big problem in San Diego has been the running game.  I don't think that's an issue with Stoutland.  Minter would be a good pick.  I also wonder if they look at Cory Undlin who is working with the Texans.

Is that the same Cory Undlin that many here thought was the worst secondary coach in the history of the game when he was with the Eagles?

Ringo and Brown have been getting cooked in coverage. Not sold. Definitely can bring some guys in there.

I'm not sure.  People have been excited about Ringo and he's played well, for a 4th round rookie thrown in at the end of the season.  I would like to see upgrades but I'm just saying what I think Howie and coaches will think:  they don't prioritize safety enough, they will think Brown, Blankenship and another cheap free agent will be fine.  They will cut Bradberry and have money committed to Slay. They haven't drafted a corner in the 1st round in 22 years, and they will say they already have 3 young corners (Ringo, Ricks, Rodgers) to pair with Slay.

Bradberry's contract is real ugly. But he needs to go regardless.

I’m not sold on brown or Blankenship. Blankenship can be solid. I think he can be Marcus Epps to CJGJ. I don’t think he can be your best safety and frankly i don’t think he’s played as great as he did early in the year. Also slay is 33. I’m not trusting a guy who’s about to miss 1/4th of the season this year to stay healthier next year and not decline. Also ringo, Ricks are unproven commodities. Don’t know what rodgers looks like after his suspension. I think they need a massive upgrade at corner. Relying on 2 players who are inexperienced, guy coming off a year long suspension and a 33 corner sounds an awful lot like the Wr plan in 2020 when they thought they were SB contenders and that blew up in their face amongst other things.

On bradberry, pre June 1st isn’t happening it’s dead money and a $11 cap hit. No one is trading for that contract. If you post June 1st it’s 4.75 mil dead money and 0 savings. But unfortunately a $4 mil deduction from your 2025 cap.
