One of the worst parts of the defense looking like this is now hearing people acting like Gannon was any good last year. Dude got carried by an insanely talented defense that stayed mostly healthy the entire year behind an offense that was basically curb stomping every team. The only time he faced actual resistance in the SB he crapped the bed.

The way the Defense played the last month.  Gannon Defense looked like the 85 Bears in Comparison.   Super Bowl or not, Gannon Defense was much better.

I hated the Gannon defense but what I will say is you knew what you were going to get from them.

A defense can turn around relatively quickly.

But ask yourself this, how would you feel about wasting another year of AJB, Smith, and Goedert's primes with a top 5 OL mostly in their prime? And for what, to give Sirianni another shot? To pat him on the back for his overall record?

The trust is gone with Sirianni. Fire him.

The All Time Eagles and Bucs series is tied at 11-11.  During the first Bucs game, Swift went off.   I need a similar game like last time. Run the ball and quick dump offs and slants to stop the obvious blitzing they are going to do.   The Eagles can win this game.

Yeah well don’t hold your breath for that my friend. These coaches don’t seem to do the sensible approach.

How do you think your boy Penix would look in kelly green?

Beautiful

wtf Monday night playoff game

Jalen Hurts over the second half of the season (last 8 games) as a passer:

189 passing yards per game

8 TDs/7 INT

75.6 QB rating

Don't you dare say he's part of the problem though, because apparently..

That's stupid.

By the way I've only seen people upset about the Syd Brown injury.

There's a silver lining.

They should now draft or sign a safety to compete, at the very least.  Or possibly even start the first few weeks of the season.

We shouldn't be going on to next season relying on Brown taking a step forward walking in to a starting position.  He is now an injury risk,  with a current injury that may not allow him to be ready in time for the start of the season.

This forces their hand in to a viable alternative.

Which even as one of the biggest Syd Brown pre-draft fans here,  I have to admit seems necessary at this point.

Agree that it makes it a necessity to bring in a starting safety...what scares me is that they have Byard, who's been below average and they very well could extend him and try to pass of the thought process of him having an offseason in Philly will only help him.

I wish Nassir Adderly didn't retire, as I think he'd be a great young safety to bring in.

Could see someone like Jalen Mills on a cheap deal.

That loss was awful.  Howie got too smart for himself in the off-season and it's showing.  The D, while it has coaching issues, is bereft of talent and depth in some positions.  That's their area.

The O has a limited QB who has been paid mega money, that I can only assume refuses to take coaching judging by his persistent rolling out of a clean pocket into a dead end and only throwing to "his guys".  It would be fair to say, that Sirianni as the main man, should be riding Hurts harder or asking for him to be traded if he won't change. You don't pay 250m to a QB who can't stay in a clean pocket and can't have a hot read in the O.

It feels great to purge the team, but it won't happen. But there will be a lot more scrutiny of Sirianni, Hurts and the FO.  The coaching needs to be harder and if players don't like, there is the exit door.  And the FO need to move on from the early 2000s mentality that LB and S don't matter - they do. Releasing players in season without a replacement is as bad as some of the coaching has been.

Lots of change to come.  The org losing their self smelling mentality is no bad thing; whenever the Eagles do that, this happens

I was a major Hurts hater pre-2022.  I really ate that crow and loved the 2022 run.  I always criticize any deviations from perfection from whomever the franchise QB of the moment is…they need to be held to a very high standard.  But aside from that, I haven’t been critical of Hurts’ future here…been really hesitant to do so after all that crow.  But I’m really questioning it now.  If Hurts is going to be an average to above average passer plus tush push extraordinaire with a $250m ball and chain, the Eagles will never be able to compete with teams that get serviceable QB play on budget deals or teams with generational QBs on mega-deals.

I was the exact same way but why should we have to walk on eggshells when it comes to criticizing a QB? Fact of the matter is Carson became injury prone and turnover happy, all while still putting up big numbers (with Greg Ward and Travis Fulgham) and Jalen Hurts is now turning in to the same thing but with an all-star cast around him. Hurts might be seeing the effects of poor coaching but the tape doesn't lie either. Hurts took a huge step back from the guy we all fell in love with last year. With everything he has around him, he still only had 23 passing TDs. 12 QBs had more. Only 2 of Hurts 14 rushing TDs were non-tush push from outside of 3 yards.

They invested $250 million in this guy. They brought in his best friend and gave him $100 million. They gave Goedert, at the time, at top 3 TE contract. They drafted a Heisman at WR. He's had a 1,200 yard rusher and now a Pro Bowl RB in D'Andre Swift. He has more than Carson Wentz could have dreamed of.

I've been saying WR3 should be a priority and we saw last night why. If the Eagles top 2 WR go down, look what the Eagles have to work with...and every one of those WR aside from Covey is a FA.

Now, with all of that being said, I think priority #1 is to get the coaching right. Get a coach who sees the talent the Eagles have and knows how to scheme FOR those players, not rely on them to be good no matter what. Get a WR coach or any coach who tells these guys how to help Hurts out when he has to scramble to the right. I never want to see Hurts drifting back to the right and floating the ball out of bounds again. Bring in a WR3 and TE2 who are actual weapons with upside and potential starters rather than JAGs who have to be labeled a speed WR or a blocking TE. Give Swift a bag and use him right. Hurts has 2024 to show us he's a $250 million QB.

. If he ran up against the same schedule as this year with this roster with all the turnover and injuries, he would have been just as terrible. What we saw in the KC game was Gannon's real defense.

I was just gonna respond to that tidbit saying I’d give Pierce a chance here. He has that D playing great.

I HATED Antonio Pierce as a Giant. He was a ****. But man, I want a DC like Pierce or Al Harris who's personality rubs off on the defense. I said it last week that I liked the swag that Al Harris played and coached with. I hate that word and I know that's not a reason to hire a coach but at the same time, this team has NO IDENTITY. I want a coaches attitude to rub off on the players. Not saying Seth Joyner would be a good DC but if you had a guy like him running the show, or coaching LBs, you damn well know they are going to be a nastier bunch. I hate this soft ass defense we've grown accustomed to so much. I want a DC to come in here put his finger prints on the defense and make teams fear playing the Eagles once again.

I think we want a bit of fight and effort. A bit of defense nastiness perhaps? That would be nice! Show some passion and some energy. This team is lifeless and whilst I kind of get the calm approach more on offense I can’t stand it on the defense. You want them to be nasty and to play with energy.

@HazletonEagle you think Brown will be ready to go in less than 8 months if he tore his ACL?

Even if he is ready, it's a huge step back for him. We always hear about the progress players make from year 1 to year 2 and how important it is for young players. Now Sydney Brown is going to be rehabbing instead of improving. Add to it the fact that there is going to be a new DC (wishful thinking new scheme) and a boat load of new players to learn how to communicate with and Brown is on the outside looking in. He won't be on the field learning on the fly, he'll be on the side of the field getting his knee right. It's unfortunate because he shows potential that other Eagles safeties as of late haven't.

It also puts safety a top the NEED list. I'm not sold on Blankenship and he's hurt quite a bit too. Very well lead to Byard coming back. UGH. What a disaster yesterday was.

Is there a marquee FA at DE they can afford?

Because all the great ones in the draft won't be there in the mid 20s.

RD2 options for second tier might look like:

Bralen Trice, Washington

J.T. Tuimoloau, Ohio State

Eagles had 2 2nd round picks. Montez Sweat was had for a 2nd and finished with over 6 sacks for the Bears. Chase Young was had for a 3rd. Not that the Skins would trade within the division but both are blue chip players at a position of need. Young has underachieved but I'm betting on his talent for a 3rd. Rather take that chance on a 25 year old DE instead of a 4th for a guy like Robert Quinn, who was 32.

I'm looking at Brian Burns, Yetur Gross-Matos and even Casey Toohill in FA.

I blame that hoagie guy Dalessandro

The players are now scared for their personal safety during games, so they can't concentrate.  It makes sense.

How are we going to beat the buccs with Reddick and sweat in pass coverages? Even Faker Gayfield is going to slice and dice if we do that.

Ok I should have elaborated. You know what you are going to get from this defense. They are going to suck. With the Gannon defense you knew they’d hold up against an average to bad QB and really struggle against a good one.

The Gannon defense very likely gets a win against Drew Lock and Zac Wilson this year.

They aren’t. Quite why Patricia is doing that I don’t know? Trying to get creative perhaps? But all he’s done is try to get too cute and not put any players in any position to succeed.

I get it...I am just saying the NFL is giving them the most likely matchup on a short week that gives them an advantage...vs. say, since the likely outcome is 4/5 goes to SF, why not schedule the 4/5 for Saturday so they can get an extra day of rest before traveling across the country?

Exactly right. At worst, it should be Sunday.
