I HATED Antonio Pierce as a Giant. He was a ****. But man, I want a DC like Pierce or Al Harris who's personality rubs off on the defense. I said it last week that I liked the swag that Al Harris played and coached with. I hate that word and I know that's not a reason to hire a coach but at the same time, this team has NO IDENTITY. I want a coaches attitude to rub off on the players. Not saying Seth Joyner would be a good DC but if you had a guy like him running the show, or coaching LBs, you damn well know they are going to be a nastier bunch. I hate this soft ass defense we've grown accustomed to so much. I want a DC to come in here put his finger prints on the defense and make teams fear playing the Eagles once again.

I disagree to an extent. Our defense has an identity, its softness.
Man, that hurts to say.

I support resting Devonta Smith and AJ Brown next week.  I don’t want to see AJ Brown play on a sprained knee and then finish the job with an acl tear next week.

Eagles got the most beatable team in the playoffs in rd 1 , they should be fine

Schmoopie said the exact same thing. At the time I didn't buy it but given how the game went and if it really isnt serious, you may be right.

Agree that it makes it a necessity to bring in a starting safety...what scares me is that they have Byard, who's been below average and they very well could extend him and try to pass of the thought process of him having an offseason in Philly will only help him.

I wish Nassir Adderly didn't retire, as I think he'd be a great young safety to bring in.

I wonder what are secondary might look like with a new defense and a new DC. Can’t stand this damn scheme.

Tampa is 5-1 over their last 6 after being 1-5 over their previous six.   So they are playing much better even though they haven't look good  the last 2 games against Carolina and the Saints.  In the regular season matchup.  The Eagles had 200 yards Rushing and almost 500 Yards of Offense.  But only scored 25 but held them to 11.   Again similar game plan.  Heavy Swift and I hope Hurts uses his legs if he has to.  Hopefully with Slay being back the back end can stabilize a little bit.   I wouldn't be shocked if the Defense looks much better next week.  We just need to make sure the Offense game plan is right.   Bowles will be blitzing heavy so again quick passes and slants.

Sorry. Can't agree. Tampa got the most beatable team. They should be fine.

Baker Mayfield is playing his best football of his career. I always compared Sam Howell to him coming out of UNC and look at what he did to the Eagles this year. Look at what Tyrod Taylor did yesterday. QBs are having career days against this defense. The Eagles have shown no signs of improvement or shown they have a clue on how to stop a team. I'm looking for a huge Mayfield day.

I can see a "for who for what" scenario more than because of the fumble. Crappy field not really playing for anything. Saw his boy get rolled up last week. Tweek the knee a little bit as he clearly did.. F this ish see yaw in the locker room.

Maybe AJ should stop fumbling every time he catches a GD pass inside the opponent's territory, then he wouldn't have to fake injuries.

Every coach minus ST and Stoutland should be fired, and Sirianni should be coaching for his job next week. If they have another embarrassing performance in a standalone primetime WC game, hes going to get fired too.

The Eagles have become the laughingstock of the NFL and there has to be accountability

@mattwill

eagles 10

bucs 17

Bonus: one of the most disappointing seasons will end.

Yup when we have our two best pass rushers in coverage scrubs like Drew Lock Tyrod Taylor and probably Baker will kill us.

If he truly is "coaching for his job” then a win over a meh Bucs team shouldn’t save it. Prolonging the season an extra week just to get pummeled by Dallas or SF would do more harm than good.

. If he ran up against the same schedule as this year with this roster with all the turnover and injuries, he would have been just as terrible. What we saw in the KC game was Gannon's real defense.

Gannon with this defensive personnel and schedule and all the injuries remaining equal would have seen us concede 40 plus every game from the first Cowboys game to the second inclusive, and it's revisionism to pretend otherwise. Gannon couldn't make in game adjustments to save his life, if you were getting your ass kicked first half, you were getting it kicked the second too.

Desai was doing a decent job until he hit the toughest bit of the schedule with no inside linebackers or nickel corners, management decided to overreact and install Patricia and he proved that it really definitely was Bill Bellichick that ran the defense in New England.

On the Offense, you could put anyone in at QB, but if all you've got is the same 4 or 5 plays and you can't develop quick passing plays to beat a blitz, eventually you'll get found out, and that's what happened. We stopped Hurt's running and took away the 'one neat trick' of the offense that made the very limited everything else work.

Firing Desai mid season and stopping Hurts doing the one thing that disguised how limited your playbook was might be the dumbest coaching decisions in the history of the franchise.

The stupid thing is we could probably beat Tampa if the defense found some professional pride and even half turned up, but if the defense plays like it has the last two weeks, we'll lose to Tampa but that will spare us getting absolutely cornholed for a historic beating by San Francisco a week later.

A defense can turn around relatively quickly.

But ask yourself this, how would you feel about wasting another year of AJB, Smith, and Goedert's primes with a top 5 OL mostly in their prime? And for what, to give Sirianni another shot? To pat him on the back for his overall record?

The trust is gone with Sirianni. Fire him.

This is why it was stupid to have 2 practically brand new coordinators. I think they will keep Siri, but he needs to bring in coordinators with better experience.

Baker has been absolutely dreadful the past two weeks.

This is the reality.   We look worse than the 70s McCormick teams.  This team since the Buffalo game gives the 1998 Ray Rhodes team a run.

Eagles D is just what he needs to get a $25 million/year contract.

You're probably right.  And Im actually done with him now, I was defending him last week but I don't see any way he comes back from yesterday.

Up until yesterday you could make the argument that the position coaches and coordinators are mostly to blame.

But that excuse only goes for so long, and to come out and embarrass themselves immediately like they did yesterday is totally undeniable and actually (somehow) shocking.

This team went from SB to totally getting outcoached from A to Z and mentally checking out.

The way the Defense played the last month.  Gannon Defense looked like the 85 Bears in Comparison.   Super Bowl or not, Gannon Defense was much better.

I'd imagine our defense would look a LOT better with CJGJ, Epps, Kyzir and TJ in the middle of the field. Bradberry not being burnt toast. Also an offense that generally had huge leads in the first half. I'm not saying he's not better than Desai/Patricia but hand him this situation and I doubt it looks much better.

The Eagles didn’t get the most beatable team. They are the most beatable team.

Screw the Eagles for making me defend Matt Patricia.  But you'd have to be a freaking savant to turn this defense around after the bye, running someone else's scheme, with a worn out/unproductive DL and the worst back 7 in the league.

It's completely insane that they did that and still kept Desai in the building.  It's utter incompetence and even the players don't give enough of a ish to hide it.  They're saying it openly.

I’ve been as patient as anyone here with the coaching staff, especially Brian Johnson, but we just aren’t seeing any progress or any answers to the same things that have plagued us over three years. In terms of the blitz, it’s either a Sirianni problem or a Hurts problem, and we aren’t moving on from Hurts.

If I’m Lurie, the only way I consider keeping Sirianni is if he decides he is bringing on a new OC who actually oversees the offensive game plan, not just calling plays off his menu.

Yeah, the Fangio scheme or at least Gannon’s version of it seemed to set a ceiling for the defense where it would get exposed by good QBs; this has been married to degraded player and positional coaching talent where the floor has been taken out completely.
