Conversely, a W and a pick from Slay is all it takes and he can spit as much mad crap as he feels like.  Talk is cheap. f'ing do something.

Don’t disagree but there are some circumstances where defense gets torched and still likely gets the ire of Joyner. However, what good does it do Darius slay to go after Seth Joyner? It’s not gonna change out Seth Joyner thinks or how he’s gonna breakdown the next game. It’s not going to change what the tape showed for that game against Sf. Even if slay plays great, joyner is going to be who he is. Really feel the negative on social media outweighs the ability to talk crap to Seth joyner

It’ll be a shame, but the end of Slay’s time here isn’t going to go well and he probably won’t be remembered favorably. He got into it with Joyner on social media, his play has declined and will probably only get worse, and they probably kept him a year too late. He’s not very accountable either. I get it’s a part of society now, but the social media stuff gets tiring.

Slay has had a very good career here and if people don’t remember him favorably, then they’re morons. No one stays elite forever and he’s put in some good campaigns.

On a separate topic, people care way too damn much about social media and how they’re perceived on social media. This whole thing with him and Seth is preposterous. And let’s not act like Seth hasn’t had bad takes himself in the last few years. Bottom line, just turn the **** off. It’s all toxic anyway.

This defense was definitely downgraded from a personell and talent standpoint. What also hasn’t helped is the injuries on the back end from the get go. There was no way to get any type of coherency among the new players on the field. Even with all the sacks last year, our defense wasn’t some type of juggernaut either. We have regressed and it shows in the stats and also from an eye test standpoint.

The first two series last Sunday were a dominant effort by the defense and a welcome surprise. So far this season those two were the best from an aggressive standpoint IMO. After the first 1st down by the 9ers they went back into their shell of getting beat up. Some of that is probably due to fatigue, but it’s also been there the entire year. They don’t make enough plays. It seems that we dodge bullets because other teams just miss opportunities that are there to be made and not due to something that our player does….

Very frustrating, but the cards we have been dealt this year from a defensive perspective.

We were also playing SF when they had 10 days rest against our defense that just came off a 100 snap game against Buffalo. Compound that with our lack of talent in the middle of the field and we get last Sunday. The offense also settling for two FGs really didn't help either when the defense did do their jobs.

Saturday Morning Predictions Update

52 predictions recorded thus far.  31 for an Eagles win and 21 for a Cowboys win.  The Average Predicted Score continues to be a tight Eagles 28 Cowboys 29.

As always, please tag your prediction post with @mattwill that way I will be sure to see/record it.  Score predictions can also have an optional "Bonus Pick" tiebreaker prediction.  So far over the course of the season 128 different EMB posters have made at least one prediction.

We got 100 predictions submitted last week, lets see if we can get to 100 again.

A list of the predictions is presented below, sorted alphabetically by the name of the predictor.  If you don't see your name there, then I haven't yet recorded a prediction for you.

23-17 Eagles

I really hope the Eagles go out there and win a Super Bowl this year. I’m not gonna stop cheering them on to do that. They have a  chance cause of what we saw last year and maybe they get back to that. But my  view is that we are in week 14 which is 75% of the season gone, and still waiting for this team to put together a complete game. The Eagles are running out of time to put that all together. we don’t have the personnel on defense ( that is an off-season fix) to fix the issues on that side.  Just hoping they can get enough stops. the offense every week either has turnover issue, they can’t find consistency or effectiveness in the running game or the passing game is inconsistent for quarters or halves. Add on situational coaching at times has been poor. Got 5 games to put together a complete game and get yourself ready for the playoffs. If we are still talking about these things by end of week 18 i don’t have as much confidence they finally put it all together and play a complete game in the playoffs. At that point it’s more you are what you’ve been for 18 weeks

I too wish things were different and all of us here, with a few exceptions, want nothing more than another shot at a SB win. I just have a hard time believing that a light switch can all of sudden be turned on and this team plays a complete game as a team. We are a good team with some major flaws on the defensive side of the ball.

Sure, the team can improve and play better football, but the limitations on defense and some of the shortfalls on offense might be too much this year for a run. We will find out a lot this coming weekend at Dallas. Getting a win, regardless of how, would instill some confidence. Losing a close game would be a bummer, but not the end of the world. If we get blown out again, then it would mean that our record is better than it should be due to lucky circumstances (dropped passes, not going for 2 point conversion etc.)

This. What are you gonna get out of going after Seth Joyner? Seth Joyner is still going to have the same shtick he always does. He’s gonna have the same takes he always does. So if you win, you get the satisfaction of going after him? BFD. But if you lose and the defense plays poorly with how social media is then slay is gonna get destroyed. Better off just ignoring it.

I think you can win the Super Bowl with a top tier offense (top eight) and average defense (14-18).  The Eagles aren’t going to be able to simply outscore everybody in the playoffs.

They’ll likely need to beat some or all of SF, DAL, and DET — all of whom can score a bunch of points

Gonna need 17+ first half points tomorrow night.  No more of this 6 and 7 points at halftime stuff, or they’ll be down at least two TDs

Another repeat of that this week and Frank Reich might only be a phone call away for consulting work

Sure, that has to go into the equation as well. To be honest, I would have been shocked "positively”if we would have handled the 9ers that day. All the circumstances were against them and they would’ve needed an almost perfect game to win. Those type of losses can happen and have happened to good teams in the past. The worrisome part about this team is that they haven’t really played well the entire year, even with the best record. What I will say is that the resilience of the team is upper echelon and that is part of their good record as well.

So this is a one game punishment for him? Because sidelines have all sorts of staff, and they break up fights all the time. The broadcast & subsequent media made a big deal of it. Probably because the 40whiners cried & people hate Philly.

Yup. If Ohtani can’t stay healthy pitching in this contract it’s an overpay. It’ll still be fine cause Ohtani is a great hitter. But the 70 mill per year is under the assumption after 2024 he can pitch like an ace again. Basically if he does it’s be like paying $40 mil for the best hitter and $30 for an ace. But if he continues to have elbow issues then you are essentially paying $70 mil for just a hitter. Not that Ohtani isn’t fantastic but i feel like having harper, schwarber and Turner making less than that is better use of money and fielding a team.

Sorry if already posted. Good video.

We can talk about Christian Elliss getting cut a blunder from Howie, but the Eagles bringing back both Bradberry and Slay could be felt for multiple seasons. They could have moved on from both of them. Maybe they then feel the need to draft Joey Porter Jr. instead of Nolan Smith. Maybe they make a deal for another veteran. Instead, they locked in two aging CB who right now are both in the top 15 average per year salary. It's going to cost the Eagles a lot of dead cap to move on from both of them too.

Bradberry has had a decent year, especially if you take out the experiment that made no sense with him in the nickel. Slay, I agree, he might go out leaving fans with a sour taste in their mouths.

the bears don’t have half the talent on defense the Eagles do. Yet they somehow have turned it around. Don’t want to hear any more excuses for this coaching staff.

Bears' last 6 opponents: Raiders (Hoyer!), Chargers, Saints, Panthers, Lions, Vikings (Dobbs).

Must be nice.

@mattwill

Eagles 30

Cowboys 27

Eagles win on last second FG

our defense would give up points & yards & make 3 out 6 of those teams look good on offense.

Before he had to have the Tommy John surgery, I made the case on the Phillies thread around the start of last year that technically what you’re paying Ohtani is for One player but getting two players with 1 roster spot. Ohtani is the best hitter in baseball and arguably a top 10 pitcher in baseball (before TJ). The problem now is with the Tommy John surgery if he’s never great at pitching again or he can’t stay healthy because of it that contract looks absolutely absurd for just a DH hitter.

Baseball player union will never allow for a cap so gonna get more and more ridiculous contracts. I’m guessing soto gets something like 450 (but he’s purely just a hitter)

I guess this is the PAT penalty?
