I think Howie needs to shoulder some of the blame for the defense. He totally neglected LB by letting TJ & White walk and replaced with cast offs, continues to avoid CB high in the draft, and botched the safety situation in the offseason (regardless of some of it being CJ's fault). The lack of talent at these positions has really hurt the defense.

I’d add relying on maddox at slot corner is a continuous issue. He’s only stayed healthy once. Reason why they kind of avoided it for most of last year was cause CJGJ could play slot corner. They lost mcphearson and had to get Roby off the streets.

that said i figured the defense was going to regress. You don’t lose hargrave, white, Edwards, Epps, CJGJ, suh and Joseph then have an injury to maddox and not see a regression and drop off. Even if you got some good young players in, they aren’t at the level of those guys yet. I think the goal in 2023 was the offense would carry us and hopefully by end of the year young players start playing like veterans and the defense begins to get better and play closer to 2022. But really the young players experience helps them make significant jumps in 2024 and will have more cap space then 2023 offseason to make some additions to help with the process.

There has to be a cure for cancer by now. I mean come on. Too bad people just make way too much $ off of it

it's not "people" who are making huge $ from hiding cures for cancer.

Eagles - 13, Seahawks - 31

Bonus: DK Metcalf torches our secondary for 150+ yards, 2 TDs.

Anyone can see the DL is gassed.

The WRs are gassed too, but they're never taken out of the game to let them rest.

@mattwill the Eagles get back on track god willing.

Eagles win 31-20. Bonus: We don't turn the ball over.

All goes back to my post about roster management. Using 4 roster spots for players who produce what 1 guy does for other teams or dressing 4 TE all instead of activating Moro Ojomo or more DL depth. Anyone can see the DL is gassed. Not just Carter and Davis but the DE too. Deactivate or cut Julio Jones. Dress 3 TE and let Ojomo an Tarron Jackson eat some snaps so the rest of the DL can get some wind back.

Jordan Davis is a rookie?

Doug won their first SB and was gone two years later. His record means nothing if he doesn't change when obvious changes need to be made. When players are texting D Gunn saying things need to get fixed he's already starting to lose the players IF he doesn't address those issues. So yeah he's got a good record but that's based on talent not his choices as we are seeing this year. Shane leaves and pretty much the same offensive roster struggles this much all season? I don't want to hear where they rank or other statistics. Last year they were blowing teams out. This year we have constantly been saying they need to get used to the new OC. No, Nick sucks at play design. That's the issue. Same damn team and he can't get them going the way Shane did. On the other side of the ball he picked the DC. He's watched the vanilla defense and he's watched them give up 3rd downs and nothing is being corrected there either.

Doug was gone because and only because he was resisting change even beyond the normal for head coaches at the time by sticking his neck all the way out trying to keep Press Taylor even against the GM and Owner's wishes, from what we heard. And to be clear, this is not a criticism of Doug Pederson, I really liked him as a coach even with the tough year at the end, I felt like he got married to a QB with the mental strength of tissue paper and regretted it.

I don't really think play design is an aspect where NFL people have trouble on average. I know that may sound odd at first blush, but at the end of the day it's often very similar route concepts, one of a set of route combinations and some modifications, the vast majority of things - not all things, but the majority - are seen on tape somewhere. It's just about putting the right ingredients together.

And generally speaking there's enough people in the NFL who are "average" (this is a fundamentally incorrect usage of average because average implies that there are people better and worse, but what I mean is mediocre) at that. Some people do use play design as notable strengths, but I think there's a lot of teams with just mediocre play designers, even good teams.

Sometimes people have bad years and have to figure things out. Statistically this isn't even a bad year, the worst it can be mathematically is a mediocre year. I do agree there are changes that need to be made, but Sirianni is a human, just like everyone else. All young coaches who are somewhat successful have to deal with the albatross that is people getting poached, and the Eagles in recent memory are not used to losing. There's a learning curve for everyone involved.

Free agency should be interesting. I wouldn't be shocked to see Howie take a big swing at someone like Burns to replace Graham....maybe Josh Allen (JAX) as well. Winfield Jr. would be a good target at safety. Jaylon Johnson will likely be a top target.

They didn't just "lose two games". They got their ish pushed in and out through their mouths by two of the teams we're going to have to beat to make it back to the Super Bowl.

They've been playing like dog crap all season long on both sides of the ball, firing either coordinator is not some ridiculous assertion. Especially Brian Johnson, he has basically all of the high end talent on the team and can't do anything

I get what you're saying, and I don't necessarily think they need to keep everyone, but you have to understand that going to the Super Bowl as a goal is a long way away from what's required to keep your job as far as the NFL is concerned. What changed in reality is the expectations, especially for the fans. Do you even realize how few teams make it to the Super Bowl in back to back years?

I do agree with needing to make changes though, no sense in wasting time when you don't need to, but if it's the kind of issue that requires long offseason style installs, will be rough.

If there's one guy that should get fired, it's Aaron Moorehead.

- He hasn't developed anyone. Almost everyone has regressed from year to year, besides AJ Brown who already came here established and Devonta Smith who was as close to a ready to go rookie as there is.

- No one can run pick plays, ever. I remember getting flagged for it all the time back in 2021 which would take away TD's and we still get flagged for it now.

- Our scramble drill still sucks besides it being a staple in the offense for 3 years.

- I can't think of much that improved you can point to him being here. The only reason we even have good WR's to begin with is because we spent a top 10 pick and then another 1st and 3rd.

I think deep down people knew it was going to be a problem going back to March/April, but people held out blind hope they'd find a diamond in the rough. I never got over letting CGJ go, thought it was dumb then, I do now. Howie is also responsible for Desai, we all know that was more his pick than Sirianni. The only excuse for Howie would be with guys like Reddick, Smith, Dickerson, etc going to have to get paid going forward, Howie has calculated everything out to where he simply couldn't pay for Edwards or CGJ and had the future math all calculated out. But something tells me it's not so much that as they thought they could get away with saving money at those positions as they've done in the past and put too much emphasis in the Super Bowl where everyone looked awful to say that "Oh, if we got torched that bad, then guys like Edwards, White, CGJ are totally replacable, we can find guys as good as them easy peasy."

I had to look it up a few days ago to see who the WR coach was.   I was stunned to see that it's still him.

I said this the other day. I think they’re gonna go after Brian Burns. Because if they’re gonna make a splash in free agency, I think they want a blue chip type impact player that fits their philosophy. And really when you look at free agency right now, he’s probably the biggest blue-chip player on defense that fits. I personally would rather go, Jaylon Johnson and a linebacker like queen or Josey Jewell. The problem with signing jaylon Johnson is that you have bradberry and slay who are going to be back next year. Unless you cut Bradberry as a post June 1 Or try to move him to the inside and play slot. So then that way you can get maddox that can be a Jack if all trades and play some corner and safety. That said not sure bradberry can even play slot at a high level.

We're aligned here.

Covey improved...as a returner. So Michael Clay gets credit there.
OZ is the same as he was in Atlanta.
Watkins didn't improve.
Reagor was under his watch.
No UDFA made it.

Get someone new.

Brian Burns would be a great pickup, but that would be a tricky situation. Reddick was already sorta pissed at his contract this past offseason, but played good soldier and is already at 11 sacks. I think he's going to be a little more disruptive if he's going into a lame duck contract year while they paid Burns a ton of money. Josh Sweat could also make a case for being underpaid and going into a lame duck contract year. Maybe you could make it work between all 3 but I think both Sweat and Reddick wouldn't be happy at all about it.
