Like you said about firing him now and having him hemorrhage intel to opponents...that's part of the fallout.  As an aside, I don't know how much he could possibly leak because the entire premise would be to fairly aggressively change the defensive approach without him here, but we know teams, especially the Eagles, are sensitive about that stuff.

Assuming there is fire behind all of this smoke and it's not just a ton of panic over tinkering, it seems they wanted to fire him but didn't want to deal with the consequences.

This is like breaking up with someone but keeping your stuff at their house and still hooking up with them.  We've all done that, right ?🤣

Tend to think they want to see what Patricia can do with the defense and see if he’s an answer before the offseason. I’m betting they believe going into the offseason they’ll get a new Dc. If he has the same issues i think they are gonna go out and try to get a veteran DC and pay them to come here (maybe Bowles gets fired down in tampa). If he has success they like then they keep him as DC.

I think the bigger potential issue is how much of the problem is your personnel and how long does it take you to fix it.

The Game Score Predictions window for the Seahawks game is open

As always, please tag your prediction post with @mattwill that way I will be sure to see/record it.  Score predictions can also have an optional "Bonus Pick" tiebreaker prediction.  So far over the course of the season 118 different EMB posters have made at least one prediction.

For anyone who missed the results of the first 13 weeks, the post below takes you to a recap of those results

Ok so I got the Eagles winning 27-17 over the Seahawks

Bouns: AJ Brown TD.

Last four years I’ve always said the teams that get away with the most holding on offense, are the chiefs, niners, and cowboys. But State Farm must really be pulling coat tails to be able to get a phantom holding call in the secondary like that.

Does someone text Swift while she is at the game to instruct her what to do during certain plays? You know she has no clue about the game.

I kind of enjoy attacking the people no one will attack and defending the ones no one will defend...so here's one thing in defense of Desai...

Sean Mcdermott & Todd Bowles.  Both pretty legit defensive coaches who had very poor results here due to a combination of growing pains and personnel limitations.

It's bad when the best thing I can say about Desai is that we've had good defensive coaches who have failed here and succeeded elsewhere, but it's worth contemplating.

Your defense is... just because he's bad now, doesn't mean he will be bad forever.  You aren't wrong.   But... McDermott wasn't ready.  He was fortunate to land with Rivera who helped him grow into the job.   Bowles was in a no win situation.  He got thrown out with the bath water.  I think he was ready, but was changed midstream.  Not much change you can create like that.   Time will tell with Desai.

There is a precisely 100% chance that she is notified exactly when the camera will pan to her.

They had to do something. I didn’t think it could get worse than Billy Davis but it did. They were approaching all time low levels. They’re basically giving Patricia a 4+ game audition for the job.

Granted, I'd never dress like that in a million years, but the black pinstriped mobster suit was a look.  And it kind of worked.  Now he's just making it about himself and turning himself into a cartoon.

Yea, now he just looks silly.

The biggest indictment on Desai, or any other below-average defense (ex: Washington), is what's happening in Minnesota. The Vikings are not a talented unit whatsoever and are giving tons of teams problems.

I'd take this stat line from an UDFA who is now starting. Ivan Pace, my guy. Had a huge game last week and was all over the place yesterday.

Now that the switch is made…what changes or differences can we expect? It is still the same personnel

Hopefully some stops when it’s 3rd and 15+

Can't imagine much will change this deep into the season. Hopefully next season we move to a different scheme entirely. I'd like to go back to some version of the 4-3 that's not so passive. This Fangio scheme can leave with Desai.

You guys remember when some of us thought Desai and the defense finally turned the corner after that Dolphins game..... lol

Lol I'm guilty

The biggest things we can hope for are improvement on 3rd down and red zone. Both are bottom of the league. Really cant get any worse, so not a big ask.

Any other improvement is a bonus.

Now we know why Slay opted to have his knee operated on. He was probably playing through an injury, but has no interest in doing so for Patricia. So, he decides to just do it now and miss a bunch of weeks.

Also about the comp picks…

There’s no comp pick angle. First off, whose going to hire him as a HC after this? Second, he would have had to been here for 2 years to be eligible for comp picks.

I had higher hopes for Deandre in this offense too but this is a bit harsh

The eagles also played 3 top 5 offenses in 4 weeks. Not sure any other team in the nfl besides Dallas is gonna run a gauntlet like that (eagles, bill and Miami (maybe without hill)).

The beats have faced 2 top 10 offenses in 11 weeks. The bears defense looks vastly better cause they’ve faced a bunch of bad offenses besides the lions. this was the time goff had 8 turnovers in 4 games. Lions still scored 29 in one of those games. Lions also were hurt along the oline similar to Miami with waddle hurt. Do I think the Bears coaching has been better? Definitely. But i also think playing some saints, josh dobbs, Carolina, cleveland, Vegas (chargers game aside they’ve been bad offensively) helped. That’s not saying desai could do that just that i think bears defense is a lot of smoke and mirrors due to their schedule going from herbert blasting them for 30, broncos scoring 31 and mahomes putting up 41. Just like I’m going to think giants twice and cardinals will help us.

They need upgrade at Lb and more reliable slot corner. Can’t have maddox missing large chunks of the season and having to rely on unproven mcphearson if stays healthy or Roby who may never play again after this year.

They also played Washington twice and made Sam Howell look like a HoF player.   It wasn't JUST the most recent games, the most recent games is where it got inexcusable.   Is there ANY other team that gave up 10 TDs and 1 FG on 11 consecutive drives this season?   Was there one even CLOSE?    The cumulative stats are bad, not just the most recent ones.

Yes, the personnel needs to be upgraded.   But, when there are players running wide open in huge sections of the field, its not just personnel, its also scheme.  Find a way to make it harder on the defense.  The idea of Fangio's style is to stay away from chunk plays, but we've seen chunk plays allowed left, right and center against this defense especially in 3rd and long situations.    3rd and long seemed to be far worse than 3rd and short this year, because in 3rd and short, some offenses would try to run and get stopped.   But, in the passing game, it seemed as long as the QB didn't just miss a wide open guy, it was an easy pitch and catch for a conversion.

Yes, the team needs better players.  But, like I said, when it appears to be BOTH players and scheme, you can't replace the players.  (They've tried though, haven't they, by bringing in Roby and now Leonard...).   They CAN change the DC right now.   So, they are doing what they CAN do.  It may or may not work (and by 'work', I only mean to be slightly better on 3rd downs, not a massive transformation.).   It may also motivate the players to actually TACKLE properly.   No more of this crap where they just throw their body at the runner... WRAP UP and tackle properly.  THAT would also help.    These are incremental improvements.  But, they might be just enough, IF the offense can ever get themselves squared away and actually running on all cylinders instead of seeming like an engine where the pistons' timing is just off a bit.

I am only looking for minor improvements.   With Desai, I don't think it was going to happen.   That doesn't mean that it will be Patricia, but it might.  Some of defense is just plain EFFORT too (specifically talking about TACKLING), and this defense seemed to stop giving maximum effort.  This might light a fire under the players to actually give maximum effort again, like they did for exactly 2 drives against SF... before getting completely run off the field.

I can't watch the patriots anymore..too bad no other games on right now.

this concerns me more than potential panic. Sirianni needs control of the ship.

Yup. Fans have been screaming for accountability, change, firing coordinators.

As soon as they do, some complain it's desperation and question what kind of Super Bowl contender does that.

I never screamed about change or firing anyone besides Aaron Moorhead, so I’ll maintain my stance that this isn’t a good thing for a SB contender.

Theres also the whole "if you start listening to the fans, you’ll be sitting up there with them”.

Eh I’ll defend desai on the personnel isn’t good enough to consistently look good against teams with offenses like Dallas and SF and even Buffalo or ravens. i do believe the bigger issue is personnel wise and the use of the fangio scheme. Think when we run into them again it’ll play itself out that way

But the defense still should not have been as bad as where they are in some of these categories. Desai deserves blame in this. He’s not absolved from blame.

He can get some blame sure, but who hired him? This is the scheme Howie wants therefore why Desai was even brought here. He's the one who won't bring in even average linebackers at minimum, same at safety. He extended older slowing corners...

Bo Wulf made a good point in his recent article. Hiring Patricia as a "Senior Defensive Assistant” hides him from media availability. Keeping Desai as "Defensive Coordinator” in title still hides Patricia from media availability. I wonder if they are going to trot Desai out there Wednesday for his PC.
