I’ve said it, I thought Democrats could build itself into a big tent party, giving voice to moderates and the center-right disillusioned by Trumpism. But nope. They’d rather see Republicans get nuttier, letting the good ones walk away quietly, and never building strength in places where they have no power. I agree with that big tent approach, and they should really be talking strategy for long-term. You don't want to just have the pendulum swing back and forth. It doesn't have to be Trump, the people that voted for him would vote for DeSantis too. They need to do a better job with consistent messaging. Some things aren't even legislation related but end up giving the right wing outrage machine more ammo to turn it into a culture war. You can talk about the environment without screaming the world is going to end in 8 years. You can talk about rights for all Americans including LGBT+ without using terms like "birthing person" and get laughed at. You can talk about tax policy but when you attend an expensive, exclusive event with a "Tax the rich" fancy expensive dress you look like a hypocritical idiot. You can talk about police reform and equipping staff with handling mental health issues instead of abolish the police. They should also stop their own outrage machine that jumps to conclusions on cases like the Covington Catholic kids or Jussie Smollett before any facts are out. It's not just the media, the politicians go public with comments too. Then there's the disconnect with the working class, liberals need to stop pushing that college is the only answer and talk about the trades as well. Workers in factories, on farms, salespeople and entrepreneurs, photographers, graphic design artists in technology, filmmakers, etc. there are so many successful people that didn't go to college, and there are college educated people who are stupid, Congress is full of them. Bill Maher does a bit where he puts on a "Coach" hat to help Democrats with their messaging, and he usually is pretty spot on.

That's what they should do. The problem is their base won't brag with them, like the right wing base will when the economy's adding jobs under a Republican President. Because liberals are always looking for fault in everything and they're sheety cheerleaders.
