Not necessary to draft a WR in RD1 to give him another option.

But, why not?

Draft a first round WR,  he's good, and the Eagles can let Smith or Brown go, and new WR is a lot cheaper.

@vikas83 Need your transparency here. My wife recently saw a hack on her Instagram where some wife chopped all her paper towel rolls in half to save money. I recently did it to appease her, and it definitely saves us more paper towels, especially with 2 daughters.  We both spend money carelessly at all times and both have lucrative careers. However, does this make me financially responsible, or am I amongst the poorest of the poor?

The goal is to get better not finding reasons to ditch a top ten WR when the OL and defense need help.

Most normal teams don't play their starting WRs 90%+ of the time,  because they don't want their WRs to break.

Where are you getting this information? Guys like Fitzgerald, Davonta Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Johnson, etc... did it on a regular basis in their primes. Guys like Chase, Jefferson, Metcalf, Aiyuk, etc... have all done it already.

Some teams have certain short yardage / goal line packages that replace WRs in those situations. The Eagles have been using the shove in those situations and it doesn't require bringing in special blockers. That's probably the main difference in snap percentages of the Eagles WRs compared to other teams' star WRs. But teams have been doing this for a long time. Snap counts, unfortunately, have only been tracked for the last 15 years or so. But I don't recall guys like Jerry Rice leaving the field much and that was a team that used a FB, HB and TE much of the time.

Normal teams do, in fact, play star WRs around 90% of the snaps often (assuming the snaps aren't during garbage time).

A legitimate threat in the slot WOULD make us better.

Only 3 "blue-chip" players worth trading up for IMO. These players can both start right away and be impact starters long-term.

1) Mitchell
2) Fuaga
3) Fautanu

Too many other players either can't start for us (ex: Alt, Mims, Latham), don't play premium positions (Bowers), will be too expensive to trade up for (big 3 WRs), etc.

If any of them fall to 17, we can strike.

I've heard some draft pundits in recent ways say Fautanu projects as an NFL guard, but has OT potential. As opposed to projects as an OT, but has guard potential. If Fautanu does not project as a top flight OT, then he's north worth trading up for. Tackles are much more valuable. An OT who can maybe double as an OG >>>>>> than an OG who can maybe double as an OT.

I'm saying if those pundits are correct. I don't scout linemen so I have no idea. For all I know Fautanu could be the next Anthony Munoz.

Basically my stance: if the Eagles trade up for an OL in the first round in this draft and he doesn't end up being Lane Johnson's heir apparent, it was a waste of a move.

the Eagles need a backup WR,  because when you don't have a backup WR,  your WRs break, and you get last year,  with the Eagles losing all but 1 of the last games,  and Goedert, Hurts, Smith, Brown are all hurt.

Additionally,  everybody is good with Parris Campbell as the starter, right?   It seems like there are some who are not all that happy with Parris.  I am,  but others aren't.

On normal teams,  WRs don't play 90%+ of the snaps.  Because normal teams don't want their WRs hurt.  Last year,  the WRs played 90%+ of the snaps, and they both got hurt.

So would a good LB, CB, S, DT, DE, and OL help. TE2 in round one would make them better as well.

This is the OL I think Howie would draft. Him or Powers-Johnson

I think using a slot receiver as a legitimate threat would make us better. Having one out there that isn't a target wasn't beneficial. The passing game should go through your best receivers, but it shouldn't exclude everybody else.

The Eagles WR duo led the NFL in snaps.

The Eagles used both WR more than any other team.

Both WRs were hurt at the end of the season, and the Eagles lost their first playoff game.

The Eagles should add another good WR.

You'll have to weigh the money saved on TP vs the increased amount spent on pinkeye drops from all the poop covered fingers.

He can play guard for 3 years at 6'7 350?  Maybe.

Lane Johnson will like the $54 Million that he's getting over the next 3 years,  and probably won't retire during that time.

An all-pro level OG is absolutely worth drafting high. They are now paid 20M/Y! That's more than CBs.

The question is which individual player would make us better?

You don’t draft positions, you draft players, and there is a VERY good chance a WR will be the best prospect on the board.

very good stuff oh Pearsall, and some good graphs with info on the WR class in general.

I dont think there is any chance of that at all at pick 22.

You can get all pro guards in other rounds though. It’s kinda like RBs just to a lesser extent, it’s a position you can get high level guys later. The purpose of the draft is to come away with the most quality players and the best overall draft. If you take an OG with your first pick that means you’re going to have to take OT, CB, EDGE, etc with your other picks. Much harder positions to nail outside the first round. I’d much rather take my chances at guard in day 2 or 3 and try to get OT/CB/edge in round 1.

Not really

2023: Thuney, Martin, Smith, Lindstom. 3 1st rounders + Thuney in RD3.
2022: Bitonio, Thuney, Martin, Lindstom. 2 1st rounders + high RD2 (35 overall) + RD3
2021: Bitonio, Nelson, Martin, Teller. 2 1st rounders + high RD2 + RD5,
2020: Nelson, Bitonio, Scherff, Teller. 2 1st rounders + high RD2 + RD5

In the past 4 years. One all pro OG on day 3. Most are 1st rounders.

Aaron Rodgers played 4 snaps and was out for the season. The Eagles' WRs didn't get hurt because they played a few more snaps than the next guy. They got hurt because players get hurt in football. The Smith injury was very minor and he was just rested for the final meaningless game. Brown's was more severe from a hip-drop tackle. Stuff like that can happen on the first play as easily as on the last play.

There's nothing wrong with having better depth. I just don't believe WR depth is the reason we lost in the playoffs.
