How do you know it was never an issue? Could have been a daily struggle with their training staff as far as we know. Also I highly doubt your neighbor is a top level professional athlete that can run a 4.3 forty at the drop of a dime 🙂 That's a whole different level of monitoring when someone has to include two a day workouts and such during their regimen. Smells like a BS story to try to get his value to drop personally.

I have zero doubt its a daily issue and he absolutely finds it's frustrating to not live life in a manner that he wants to vs his peers. But if an employer is going to invest good money in you, then stories like that are going to hurt - most coaches won't go out of their way to talk you down.

Being immature is one thing, being immature with diabetes is a whole other thing for a team to deal with.  The NFL is a harsh business, so team will find hyper analyse an issue like that

Can someone help me understand what the Falcons are doing? They pay Coupons (who I don’t particularly rate) a lot of money and then use #8 to take Penix?

Trying to do what Packers have been successful at but it's a huge gamble which is probably why not many teams do it

All I'm saying is folks could be making a lot of assumptions about a kid based on anonymous sources who like to leak bad information at times like this so that they can get their target. Grimey practice but it happens every year.

I thought Cousins blew out his Achilles. Is he even going to be ready to start the season? Certainly no guarantee that he is there for four years considering. Cousins may have a 2 year window at best.

What I want more than anything today is a really good RG. Don't want to go into a season with any hole on that OL. Especially with Kelce gone. Make sure everyone around Jurgens is legit so he has the best chance to succeed. I'd love if they go RG at 50 or 53 today. Lot of guys I love.

Cousins signed the biggest deal of free agency this year with a four year, $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed. The contract also includes a no-trade clause and he'll earn $62.5 million in 2024 alone.

If the Falcons cut him ahead of 2025, he'll cost at least $40 million against the Falcons' salary cap in dead money. That hit goes down to at least $12.5 million if he's cut ahead of 2026 or 2027.

Tonight will be interesting. The team can make picks at 50 and 3, but I can't help but think Howie will be looking to do some trading with one of those.  Not having a 3rd rounder will something I can see the team wanting to resolve - going 70 or so picks without picking will hurt.

But equally, there will be some talent there that will warrant taking.  What to do?

Maybe use a pick next year and a day 3 pick to move up for a defensive player while saving the 53.
I got MLB, DL, RG, OLB, S as my priorities but really want to continue to attack our defense. If there's another versatile corner you want to add like Melton or Rakestraw, be my guest.

He'll want a trade if he's benched.

Look man, if in 5 years you and Penix's mom turned out to be the only ones right about this pick, I'll be right here with a fork for the crow you serve. But for now, you're yelling into the abyss.

They've already traded next year's 4th and 6th ... so I think they are more likely to want to acquire more picks next year than trade them away.

It seems like Bo Nix has been around a real long time,  it seems like Auburn,  Gus Malzahn and Nick Marshall were winning National Championships or something,  and then there was Bo Nix,  and then 8 years later,  he's a first round draft choice.

Everyone's clowning the Falcons for the pick, and I get why. However, the bust rate for QBs in the draft is ridiculously high. If you're sitting there and a guy you really believe is a star is right in front of you, you gotta take him. But you better be willing to put your job on it.

One or 2 of the 5s could be in play.   I'm interested to see if the relative lack of trades so far means GMs want to get business done from now on

If you don’t have a QB, you’re losing your job eventually anyway. Look how fast Belichick didn’t look like the greatest coach ever. What is Sean Payton’s legacy without Drew Brees?

AR is a prime example. You can point to a number of reasons why he lost his job in Philly but an argument can be made that the main reason was Vick couldn’t stay healthy. Then he was in KC and knew he was never winning a Super Bowl with Alex Smith just like the Falcons know they aren’t winning one with Cousins.

One thing I'll say for the falcons: not taking a player you want in the draft because of a mistake you made in free agency or previous drafts is bad strategy too. If you really believe in Penix as a long term franchise QB I don't care who you just signed, take him. I don't but I'm not a scout so wtf do I know.

1 hour away. I guess there are now leaks about our 2nd day targets this year.

Vick staying healthy had nothing to do with Andy Reid's last year being a total disaster which got him fired in Philly.  His son dying in Training Camp is really what doomed the season from the start.  The total panic movie of firing Juan Castilo after a 3-3 start after the defense was actually playing pretty well that season to that point is what immediately flipped the season into a total disaster that there was no turning back form.

The QB is supposed to lead the franchise and the locker room.  No matter what folks think about Kirk Cousins ability or lack of big game success, Fontenot just completely undercut his credibility in the locker room before he even took a single practice with the first team offense.

How many Falcons offensive players do you think go workout with Penix somewhere before training camp?

Boggles the mind.  The only thing I can think of is that maybe they are going to try to swing Penix for a veteran??? Otherwise picking an old rookie qb to sit the bench for years makes zero sense... unless they are the new Qb factory 🤣
