Pushing draft capital into next year - not much profit. Maybe trade fodder for a vet.

Yea one or more of those picks have to be moved for vets, for sure.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Depends. Not like we dont need players like te and lb

And OL

We have 4 picks in the 5th round guys.

This draft was very top heavy. After the first 2 rounds a lot of the picks become either middling talents, major projects, or huge injury risks. So it's frustrating sure but probably the smart move.

NIL keeps guys in college longer

Picking up these extra picks for next year open up options to trade for players during training camp and the season... You may get a cjgj or you get a Byard sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but it gives you flexibility to make a move like that

It’s a brilliant strategy. Why pick if the talent is poor when you can trade back and get value in 2025?

So you are telling me, all these other teams wont find players in the 4th rd who will contribute this year, that they are all stiffs, and no players we could have had,  would help our team this year?

I guess????  Nah, I'm not buying it.  If thats the case, we should have traded up into the 2nd and 3rd rounds.....   Yes they like our roster- and no we dont have any real LB's

Sure doesn't seem like it. Only makes sense if you really think next year's draft is significantly more talented than this. Otherwise you're just losing a year of value.

But that’s not all they got…they also got a 5th this year. It a a drop of ~30 spots to pick up the 4th (ignoring the small trade up in Rd 6)

If Eagles haven't addressed OL or LB by now then they're probably planning on trying to address it through a trade rather than the draft.

We need as many 5th round picks as we can get apparently

So when is Eagles next pick Howie will trade away ?  I’m lost  ?

Gonna own the 5th round

People have assumed the Eagles have been trading back because the players they targeted got taken. We saw with their trade with DeJean when they really want someone they specifically target them and explore ways to get them. It's becoming obvious to me, Howie's plan starting late last night was to load up for the 2025 draft. And not just so they have more picks, but they'd also be more valuable as trade chips than they were this year.

To trade the F away in a draft that was supposed to fall off after the 4th so yeah.

Spoiler alert: they aren’t picking 4 guys in the 5th

I’m not the biggest fan of Shipley as a runner, but he is pretty good as a pass catcher.

@Iggles25there goes our guy cowing. I hate the niners

They are trading back to get picks for next year too.

The talent is flat. You aren’t going to get a difference maker and the difference between players you can get in the 4th and 5th is negligible.

Who went in the 4th round that you think would have been an impact player for us this year?  I'm genuinely curious.

OK, trade all of those 5ths for a good vet LB.

It fell off WAY before the 4th my dude.

I thought that Mo Kamara from Colorado St was pretty good.  Could have taken him for an edge rusher.

LOL no kidiing- we will trade back for a 2026 6th rd pick

I think Howie's making a simple statement that after the first 100 in this draft, there wasn't a rat's ass difference in the next 100.

He's stockpiling picks for a better draft next season, and lottery picks in this draft.

Another way of putting it, he feels most third day picks have no more chance of contributing this season than the players he can find on the waiver wire in August.

So he's more interested in high upside long shots than NFL ready scrubs.
