Not a huge splash move, but not a pathetic one either.  Zeke is not what he was, but he’s a solid player.  His ‘decline’ was probably more apparent because of the ridiculous second contract he was given.  He typically stays healthy and is also a good pass protector.

Decent pick up for them, just not as a lead back.  They need way more than just him

My hopes for Becton are way too high but sorry, I'm just going ultra positive thinking with this move. The Jets are a dump of an organization. If there's ever a place for 1st rounders to go die, that's a great team to do it with. He's coming to the perfect situation in Philly. No pressure. Just come in and learn from the best OL coach in the NFL. Learn from one of the greatest RT in NFL history and a LT who was playing rugby 6 years ago and worked himself to a top player at his position. Come in here and learn and stay healthy. He's 25 years old and could still have a long NFL career ahead of him. Am I being way too optimistic? Probably. But, why the hell not.

That's 4 former 1st round picks Howie has brought in this year to kick the tires.

Devin White- I think he'll be a good starter.

DeVonte Parker- He's in a battle just to make the roster.

John Ross- MAYBE he gets signed after this weekend and he can compete in camp.

Mekhi Becton- Lane Johnson's understudy.

He's cooked. Last 2 years he's averaged less than 4 yards per carry in each. Dallas as just had a very poor off-season.

Maybe he’s the new C

Sure he can. That stuff is easy. Anybody can be Captain Checkdown. We just didn’t have it in our offense last year.

It's how mediocre QBs tore our defense apart, 8 yards throws to wide open receivers, rinse and repeat.

Still ok with Becton signing as hopefully he doesn't have to play in a game all year.  Interested to see what Stout can do for him

Fair assessment. What really kind of screwed them this draft was giving up the 4th to SF for Trey Lance. They would have been in a better position to draft a RB if they had that pick. At least they didn't reach for one. Dallas has had a really crappy offseason thus far. Here is an excerpt of the thinking of why the Cowboys were smart not to draft a RB this past weekend...there are a lot of fans that are upset that they diidn't draft one btw.

Now, with the draft officially over, that seems like an inevitability, bringing Elliott back after one year in New England to form a competition with Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Royce Freeman, Malik Davis, Hunter Luepke, Snoop Conner, and Peat.

This lineup isn’t going to move the needle for most, but the Cowboys have actually handled this position perfectly. For starters, any big name the team could have added at running back in this draft would have been either a big reach or required the Cowboys to trade up, which is almost always a bad idea when doing so for a non-quarterback. Consider:

  • Jonathon Brooks was drafted 46th overall, 10 picks before Dallas was on the clock and 17 picks after their previous pick
  • Trey Benson was drafted 66th overall, seven picks before their next pick and 10 picks after their previous pick
  • 13 running backs were drafted between the Cowboys’ final pick on Day 2 and their first pick on Day 3, including Isaiah Davis being drafted immediately before their fifth-round pick

Simply put, the draft board didn’t fall in a way that made sense for the Cowboys to take a running back. Benson fans will argue he could have been taken instead of Marshawn Kneeland, but that would have been a reach relative to the average draft projection for Benson. The same goes for any running back the Cowboys might have taken in the third round instead of Marist Luifau.

Not having that 4th round pick hurt this year combined with losing so many to free agency, simply too many holes to fill. It is what it is. I am not sure how much of the above I agree with, specifically the 3rd round pick assessment (last sentence). As a fan I don't like it but I will support the team, not necessarily the leadership, because that is what real fans do, through thick and thin...this year is looking thin fellas.

In other news the Eagles have been killing it this offseason, but you guys already know that. I am not a fan of your HC, but I love your FO, they know how to get it done.

Edit: BTW, the guy that wrote this is getting roasted for his view...Cowboys probably should have taken Wright instead of Luifau...they did need LB help also though, they reached on that pick imo, might as well of reached for a rb.

Bringing in low risk players through other team's scraps and UDFA happens every year. Then you see who makes the team, the practice squad. Fans will debates these moves as if they are day 1 free agent big splash signings and wonder where he fits in the team's plans. The team's plans for a lot of these guys are to kick the tires and see what's there. Camp bodies, potential to sign mid-season if there's a bunch of injuries at a position.

Any shot of Beckton moving to RG? He's tall, but so is Dickerson.

No. He's a dart throw on a swing tackle with starting experience. RG comes down to Steen vs Hennessy at the moment.

Can Hurts do hot routes and blitz beaters? I don't think so.

Tough to do when they're not in your system. Check this out. We run out of an empty set. All five receivers go out. They rush six against five OL. One more than we can block. Is there a hot receiver? NO. Nobody looks back to the QB. That's a system breakdown.

Was interesting watching the draft when they compared DeJean to Malcolm Jenkins.  Wonder what DeJean's Shuttle and 3-Cone would have looked like. DeJean's other measurements are pretty impressive as I don't think 100% yet from injury

I’ve said for years now, someone needs to get Kruk and Chuck a show together. I can’t imagine how entertaining those stories and that commentary would be.

Kellen Moore is going to put y'alls offense in a much better position to succeed, he is going to make Hurts so much better...

I think he beats out the Niners cast off for RB4 if they keep 4 active.

I compared DeJean to Malcolm Jenkins before the draft and then Tyrann Mathieu after the draft. Clearly, he has to prove it, but I think both of those guys are perfect examples of the kind of player he CAN be.

Just looked at FSU stats.  Keon only had 9 more catches while playing 2 more games than Johnny.  Way more TD's but everything else pretty similar.

Looking back at days 1 & 2 and listening to Howie's pressers, I believe that the expectation going in was to get DeJean in round 1 and an OL in round 2.  I think DeJean, like Hunt, was a guy Fangio really wanted to have.  Day 1 unfolds and Mitchell is right there at 22.  Can't pass on him just to get a lower rated player in DeJean.  Prepping for day 2, Howie reaches out to Washington about their second pick early in round 2.  They come up with trade terms that would be used if the player the Eagles want, DeJean, is still available.  Boom!  They pull off the trade and move to OL Plan B.

I also really admire their approach to stock picks for 2025.  It will be the first draft after the COVID eligibility ends.  It will definitely be a much deeper draft.

Finally, look for Keegan to stick around through his rookie contract.

Walker steps into the starting rotation and is just following suit.  So far so good.

I would have preferred seeing him on a shorter leash on his first start.  Fortunately it didn’t result in a loss.

I disagree slightly. I think they planned to trade up for an OL in round 1 and had a feeling that a corner(not necessarily DeJean) would fall to them in round 2. So for example, come out of the first two rounds with say Fautanu and McKinstry.

Just the vibes I got listening to Howie speak after day one and listening to him overall and piecing together some of the reporting prior to the draft, I think Howie wanted one of those premium OL prospects in round 1 since he values it so much.

Hi Matt!

Nice point in the other thread that we're not getting comp picks next season.  Another incentive to get extras in 2025.
