He'd have to come into camp and look amazing. But the only way he stays is as a starter.

I'll make an avatar bet -- if Ringo is cut, you pick my avi. If Bradberry is cut, I pick yours. If they both make the team, or both are cut, it's a push.

Never said Ringo would be cut, just that Bradberry is more likely to start on the outside and thus a safer bet to make the roster. I think Rodgers could easily be cut though. I'd do the avi deal with Rodgers vs Bradberry.

Really not sure where some of you guys are going with this 'he'll play some safety' and 'he'll be in coverage' stuff.  I really don't think so.

He’s going to be a Sam, which is the edge player who drops a bit more. People definitely are hyper focusing on coverage for some reason.

EDGE can still be a 3-4 OLB. But he's not a 4-3 EDGE unless it's an obvious passing down.

Not yet anyway. Give it a couple of years.

Cox provided immediate impact, so did Lane, heck even Kelce played early.  The only one who didn't was Graham and he was written off by most of us by his 3rd season and all we talked about for years was we coulda drafted Earl Thomas, who, by the way, provided immediate impact.  It's great those guys bucked the reality of the NFL and longevity. The 4 of them on the same team for that long period of time is much more of an outlier than Wentz.

I don't necessarily disagree with your point of view, but I also know windows close quickly,  (sometimes within the season), and if young players don't make an impact quickly teams suffer the consequences.

Lane leaving will be the end of an era.

You literally said Bradberry is more of a lock than Ringo. So these odds are in your favor per your reasoning.

I'd say Bradberry is more of a lock than Ringo and Rodgers

I think you have it backwards. We drafted him because he has the potential to be a good pass rusher with some coverage ability.

Nah, I think he’s dropping into coverage more than 50% of the time.

Ringo isn’t going anywhere. Zero chance Bradberry makes the team over him.

We're keeping 10 DBs most likely 6 at CB and 4 at S, or 9 at the very least with just 5 CBs and one or two S splitting time in the slot. So that means we've got some pretty safe bets in Slay, Mitch, DeJean, Ghost, CJGJ, Bradberry, Ringo. Maybe one between Maddox and Brown depending on what they have in mind for DeJean. Everyone else is on the bubble.

Olb in a 3-4 are edges and do all that

I don't expect either to be cut, but I do expect Bradberry to start over Ringo. There's a 95% chance that bet pushes whereas I think Rodgers has like a 30% chance of making the team.

Even if he does, the draw still is his potential as a pass rusher who can be functional in coverage. He’s not going to be some plus coverage player, but he might be good for an edge.

Davis is not going to be a 10 sack guy. Silly expectations.

Never said he was. Pressures is a different statistic.

Bradberry was cooked last year. He's going to look slow in mini-camp. It's over.

AJ is serious, can’t wait after that interview. Especially with he Barkley addition.

I think Hall is more of a lock than Maddox. Prior to DeJean getting drafted, I had both coming back. They put and enormous amount of work in Ricks last year. Unless he shows up without any improvement at all, I think he's a near lock too. I'd say the same for Jobe, like you alluded to, his special teams play is huge.

All you have to do is look at the contracts to see who is more of a "lock". Hall is only guaranteed Hall $225k (basically a Practice Squad salary), whereas Maddox was g'teed $875k. I don't think that little g'tee makes either of them "locks", but if he's healthy Maddox has the edge over Hall.

Fangio’s scheme and Hunt’s skill set point to Hunt dropping into coverage a LOT.

If we just wanted a pass rusher we wouldn’t have taken him. His athletic gifts are as a smooth mover in space at his size.

He would either rush the passer or drop into the short/middle zone.

What LB on our roster has better coverage skills (potentially*).

Something tells me you are on an island all by yourself and no one will be joining you anytime soon with him playing coverage in the middle linebacker position. Most will be on page with you with playing outside edge rusher and dropping into coverage in that quarter of a field range but no one's on page with you with being in the middle linebacker position in any formation

Oh my gosh, so slow.  But I think in Fangio’s defense he can play outside LB and drop into coverage.  Perhaps some middle LB in a 5-1-5 alignment.

Defense is questionable but there's way too much talent on offense for them to not be in the top

Correct. No shot Hunt is dropping into coverage. They've basically said that they drafted him to develop him as a pass rusher.  Absent a lot of injuries or a meaningless end of season game, Hunt is a prime candidate for the "Feeley Award". This goes to a player who stays on the 53 man roster all year, but is inactive for every game.

@vikas83  How about this, let's combine both bets together according to these terms:

  • If Ringo is cut, I get to pick your avi for a month
  • If Rodgers is also cut, I get to extend it to two months
  • If Bradberry is cut but Ringo and Rodgers are safe, you get to pick my avi for two months
  • If only Rodgers gets cut but the other two make the roster, I get to pick your avi for a month
  • If both Rodgers and Bradberry are cut, you get to pick my avi for a month
  • If none of the above are cut, no avi change
  • If all of the above are cut, no avi change

By cut or safe, this means who is or isn't on the roster for Week 1. Any injury to any of the above players voids all terms.

Sound good?

Think Zech Mcphearson has any shot whatsoever to make the 53? Everyone is analyzing the CB position and he isn't even being listed. I just assume he's gone, but I'm curious if there's anyone out there who thinks the guy may have a spot on the team.

13 CBs.  14 if we include DeSean.  15 if we include CJGJ.   Frankly, pre injury, I would have McPhearson at #5 CB but DeSean and CJGJ are Ss for me.  Toss up after Mitchell, Slay, Ringo (on faith and potential) of McPhearson v Maddox for #4 and 5 CBs.  Jobe, Ricks and Hall can fight for #6 which may well be a S.  As I see it, the CBs are Slay, Mitchell, Bradberry (until beaten) Ringo and the best of McPhearson and Maddox.  Next group is Rodgers, Hall, Jobe, Ricks. That group is fighting McCollum for #8-10 DB.  Garner,Goodrich may not survive OTAs. I figure that McPhearson, Maddox, Bradberry, Rodgers and McCollum are fighting for nickel, DB9 and DB10.  One year contracts so no one has the edge.  At this point McCollum is my #10  and a nickel suggests McPhearson or Maddox.  Bradberry is sunk costs and thus likely CB3.  My guess is the secondary are Slay, Mitchell (starters) CJGJ and DeSean starters.  Maddox and Blakenship the nickel/S until Brown in available from PUP for the latter.   Midseason trade of Bradberry.  McPhearson the back up nickel.

For 2024 I'd bet this is the case.

Just watch film of van ginkel last year if you want to know exactly what his role in this defense will be if he develops.
