Then Howie never should've given him a mega extension.

It was a one year extension from the deal he signed in 2019

But I’ll never argue against not giving 30+ year old extensions.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

IMO, the back 7 on defense is in urgent need of a talent infusion and the most urgent area of attention this offseason.  Must get improved talent at free safety, LB, and CB.  Viewing Blankenship and Brown as core pieces would be a big mistake.  Both should be improved upon.  The Eagles should be able to address at least 2 of the 3 positions in free agency.  Howie’s M.O. is to patch obvious holes in free agency, and build long term talent in the draft.

If the Eagles can bring in real talent on defense in March, I’m fine with them drafting OL, DL, TE, WR, and RB in April.

That's the profile of a good coverage LB

Ok... I'll bite... what is an NCF?

He's signed through 2026, I can't draft his replacement now. Not with the defense looking the way it does. Holes everywhere, barely any good young up and comers, old expensive corners with one looking completely cooked. Undersized LB & S both suffering major injuries. So so bad on that side of the ball, it needs major attention.

Thats something he will have to show on the field. Workouts dont show who is a good coverage LB. He does have the tools.

@EagleVA thoughts?

I concur.

My hopes for Edgerrin Cooper lasting to pick #50 probably went out the window today

Why hasn’t Byard been released yet?

Also to add on to that if the Cowboys end up with Cooper I will become violently ill

Jalyx Hunt didnt disappoint. One of my late round sleepers who I compare to Connor Barwin as a 3-4 OLB or SAM prospect.

He can stand to improve his pass rush arsenal. But hes a guy who can rush a bit, and also moves really well, really smooth change of direction to get out in coverage. Not just zone drops, but man as well. He can be a menace. Dont forget how good Barwin was here. Had a stretch where he was up there with JJ Watt looking like a DPOY candidate for us with sacks, and passes defensed.

thats ok. we want Payton Wilson.

they will likely end up with Payton Wilson.

Liufau had good length. He "only" ran a 4.64 but he was freakin flying. I think his start was slow like a cartoon flintstone car, feet were chugging for a while before his body started moving out of the blocks.

Love that guy as a double dip possibility.

With he let his Polamolu hair flow. I guess he went with the braids for aerodynamics.

More of a cooper guy, Wilson’s medical history worries me

Question for the peanut gallery:

Based on Everything we know about how Andrew Luck’s career went, full hindsight, was he worth 4 1st round picks, if 2 of the 4 would be at minimum top 10?

What scares me about him is he's 100% a project. I don't think this team can afford project players anymore.

Not even close. Postseason record of 4-4 and the most wins in a regular season was 11. And he retired at 28. That’s not even worth a single 1st round pick.

Okay, next question:

If you knew exactly how Trevor Lawrence’s first 3 years would go, and this was all the QB would be going into year 4 that you had to give the record breaking contract to, would he be worth the same 4 picks at the time of his 2021 draft?

Avonte Maddox was drafted in 2018 and has never played a full slate of games, McPhearson was drafted 3 years ago and has made one start that entire time.

Here's a list of all the defensive backs drafted by the Eagles since 2012

Brandon Boykin CB Rd 4 2012 no extension

Earl Wolff S Rd 5 2013 no extension

Jordan Poyer S Rd 7 2013 no extension

Jaylen Watkins S Rd 4 2014 no extension

Ed Reynolds S Rd 5 2014 no extension

Eric Rowe CB Rd 2 2015 no extension

JaCorey Shepherd CB Rd 6 2015 no extension

Randall Evans CB Rd 6 2015 no extension

Blake Countess S Rd 6 2016 no extension

Jalen Mills CB Rd 7 2016 1 year extension

Sydney Jones CB Rd 2 2017 no extension

Rasul Douglas CB Rd 3 2017 no extension

Avonte Maddox CB Rd 4 2018 3 year extension signed in 2021 (has played 13 games total first 2 seasons of it)

K'von Wallace S Rd 4 2020  No extension

Zech McPhearson CB Rd 4 2021 1 start at corner in 3 years

Jacoby Stevens S Rd 6 2021, Waived year 2

Sydney Brown S Rd 3 2023

Kelee Ringo CB Rd 4 2023

If that's successful drafting, what would failure look like, we've had better results with late round fliers than rounds 2 to 4. We can argue about talent recognition missing guys like Poyer when they cut him. but still the return on a boatload of picks in terms of regular starters is abysmal.

That wasn't my point. Every team has a big, long list of draft failures. I was pointing out that we went into the preseason in a pretty good state at nickel. McPhearson may have only had 1 start  to date but he was groomed as the 1st backup on the outside his first two seasons. He was set to start opposite Slay each of those years until we signed S. Nelson (2021) and Bradberry (2022). Last year, after extending Bradberry and Slay, they moved McPhearson to nickel where the starter had struggled to stay healthy. It was reasonable to expect Maddox to miss a few games, but losing him early in game 2 was sooner than we would predict based solely on averages. The preseason injury to McPhearson compounded the depth problem. My point is that in that particular position / role, drafting wasn't the issue.

A couple points about your list. Boykin was actually a pretty good player for us. He actually had 6 INTs and 19 PDs in one season. He was traded, so yeah --- no extension.

Rowe was also traded and you need to give him credit for helping us win a Super Bowl.

Yes, he is. Late round guy. Not a solution as a rookie.

Im not sure he cant contribute in various ways because he is so versatile. But he wouldnt likely be a boost to the pass rush right away. Thats where he needs some development. He has the tools.

If I knew I was placing Luck on this current Eagles squad I would 100% make that trade

Maybe I misunderstood the original question but if that’s the case we wouldn’t know everything about how his career went.

For the Colts specifically before the drafted him
