  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

I don’t think any of that is some new philosophy on height, to be honest.

Maybe not. They may be looking for a "Pascal” that runs faster.  Still think they go big for the slot.  Especially with Covey as the active #4 WR.

Will the Eagles be running the wishbone offense now or the veer?

Wing T.

Slay is declining and not worth what his contract is for.  He shouldn't have been extended last year, but finish out his deal, which would actually open the door for the team to spend at CB this offseason, when he'll be 34, and likely be even more of a shell of his former self.   But, we'll get to cut him after this season and carry $24M dead for 2025.... or we'll make it a June 1st cut and spread that $24M over two years.

It was a mistake to extend Slay.   It was exacerbated by bringing back Bradberry.   And now we get to pay for it... this season, by limiting what they are willing to spend at CB because of what has already been allocated, and we get to feel that pain for at least one more year, possibly two.

I am willing to give it a season and see if fangio can develop one of the young guys

But Howie is a genius who is never limited by the salary cap.

Meanwhile, I don't know how we can be happy with the idea that Ringo will be starting on the outside, as compared to adding a guy like Horn.

I think adding talent at safety will be essential to getting a real read on the young corners

LB too. They were a big issue that lead to gaping holes in zones when a CB would pass off his man.

Im ready for some 2nd day signings. Free agency continues today.

Bring us Justin Simmons!

CJGJ or Justin Simmons at S and Patrick Queen or Jerome Baker at LB would be a great day two.

Slay’s contract was pretty bad, i agree, but if I’m betting with free money he’s the one that can remain adequate enough to play.  Bradberry was just beyond stupid.

As constructed currently, the Birds need to go big on S if slay/bradberry are here.

Agreed.  Both were bad decisions.  Bradberry was worse, by far.

I would prefer Ashtyn Davis and Josey Jewell or Cody Barton

Watched some film of Barkley this morning, and it's finally good to have a back who can pass protect. Best pass-blocker we've had since...Clement? Quality-wise, definitely Westbrook.

You mean the spare parts?   There's a host of discards and UDFAs, plus a mid-round draft pick at CB.  Not exactly a lot of pedigree to choose from.

People don’t want to hear it, but Bradberry is still on the team…

Saquan Barkley is not remotely one of the best playmakers in the league.

You may be right but, if not, I’ll be happy to remind you and @Swoop about this.

Hopefully there will be a surprise trade. I know that contract would be tough to trade. I said surprise.

How dare you ruin my morning

Fangio can fix him! (jk)

It’s only day 2, but they don’t seem too concerned about S…which the need there is amplified with Slay/Bradberry.

What scheme are we playing under Fangio?  Certainly not a 4-3. Might have two standup pass rushers on obvious passing downs, otherwise base defense is going to be some form of 3-4, Williams - Davis - Carter, with two OLBs, Not sure they think Sweat and Reddick are suited to OLB in a base defense.

I suspect the "base” offense is going to be a 5-2-4 with the nickel brought in to variations of a 4-3 that is kind of a modified 3-4.  Huh?  Think Gary Patterson’s version.  In other words I see a front that presents multiple looks.  Think what Saban did at Alabama, what various DCs have done in Baltimore and what Belicheck did in NE. I think the tendency will be to rush 4 but where the fourth is coming from will be the chess match. Gap and a half responsibility so Fangio will work players hard so they understand multiple variations and assignments.  Note that Hurtt converted Seattle to a 3-4 base look (really a 5-2 in positioning).

In the secondary they will present a quarters appearance pre snap. (None of that dropping early that plagued Gannon in 2016.  But the Ss will rotate depending on what the offense presents at the snap.) Parker pretty much employed an 2 shell look presnap, as did Hurtt and it is a staple of Fangio’s ads.  Discipline is a must.  We will see variations of cover 4, 7, probably some 6 and 2, maybe some 8.  I doubt Fangio plays much "man”, more likely Cover 1.  I expect to see all sorts of man match, with MEG (probably Slay) and MOD.

I think that is where Gannon was headed and perhaps Desai (injuries at S and nickel destroyed what Desai could do in the secondary and his line play was just bad, probably not helped by the dearth at LB).

Fangio didn’t blitz much but Parker saw a lot of that from Joseph.  All three want to present a look presnap that has the QB guessing.  (On O, this is where the Eagles really missed Steichen last year as he is so good at spotting tendencies and exploiting them).  Fangio, Hurtt and Parker have to avoid showing tendencies.

The real key is to do this without confusing the players.  Wonder if Nick goes away from resort camps.  I am not suggesting Junction Boys (like the NFLPA and CBA would allow such), but more than fundamentals and then walkthroughs. Lots of classroom time, but I would love to see something more like AR’s scripts.

Wanting Swift at a lower price ≠ Barkley being trash or me saying as much.

Whatever helps you sleep at night, I guess.

Of course he is.  Makes no sense to cut him at this point.  Actually the dead money acceleration would hurt at this point.

I’ll be happy to be wrong, but too much money for me.
