Hurts couldn't read that there was NO defender and he got a FREE release? He can't read that???? If you can read that, you don't hand the ball off

There are two DBs there over Goedert when he hands off

Yep he panicked instead of reading the Goedert chip block with a free release, just AWFUL vision and decision making. This is the stuff he needs to step up on. This is a college play(see JV) in the NFL-not going to get MVP this way

No way to predict the Pats would go with zero coverage on Goedert at the time of handoff. You obviously hand it off. That was the RPO call and read at the moment he had to choose. It’s not four yards after the RB is running with the handoff what would you decide.

But neither are the right one

Myth busted…of course you hand it off.

Two defenders over the top of Goedert. What are you seeing? One DB at the 47 and one DB 48….Goedert at the 49. Hurts has the ball out for the RB decision point right then.

Goedert looks wide open. Great look after the RPO has been handed off already. Well after the fact of being able to see anything like this. Hurts handed off to the RB. Where is the RB in relation to Hurts? Nowhere near him in this screen shot. Very late screenshot trying to make look worse.

See to me.... I think AJ is the easy read...if you look at the play...the numbers are there on the left side...not really complicated....numbers advantage on the side where your best player is lined up.

Not even looking at AJ who is uncovered.   Not sure why you are obsessed with just Goedert here... possibly it's why you can't see the limitations on Hurts ....you have the same tunnel vision?

I'm seeing the middle as totally boxed in with defenders. I bet this play went for 1/2 yard. He is 4 yards back, what is the rush to hand it off in a stacked box??? Drop back or to your right and let the play develop. We also can't see the WR's either, there is absolutely NOBODY in the middle of the field. He can't see this? He can't trust Goedert to get open in 3 seconds? Where are Smith and the slot WR on this play?  C'mon now. Instead of seeing what's wrong, your defense of having 2 choices(neither is correct) is abysmal. let me ask you WHY was this play picked out. because it was an awesome offensive play? I think it was to point out what went WRONG. Nobody in the middle, roll out, take  a few steps back, buy some time. What is the worst that could happen, you throw the ball away? Is that 1/2 yard really the play? 1/2 yard is so much better than throwing it away? The choices here were to buy some time and either find a receiver or throw the ball away, those were the TRUE choices. Maybe AJ was waving his arms downfield LOL. That was our problem. 1/2 yard - 2 yards on 3 plays=3 and out or the famed tush push. Sorry,we can't survive on the tush push nor taking 4 downs to go 10 yards. My HS coach would be SCREAMING at the QB. "WTF you doing out there??" If the play still looks broken,THEN you take off running for the sidelines and I would bet you can get at least the same 1/2 yard(or more) on a Hurts run. Another great play would be to call a freakin TO and change the play entirely

Why are the receivers at the bottom not even going downfield? Having brunch there at the 30 yard line? IDK,seems to me there are mega issues on this play as it is pictured(which is all I can go by). Going by the bar on the bottom this was 1 second maybe. That means Hurts had already made the decision to hand off before the ball was even snapped. Maybe it was a run play CALLED. Still with the RPO you have to wait for the PASSING option to unfold. That will not happen in 1 second. That is why it is called the RPO. Walking to the line and seeing a stacked box should have told him A) I call a TO or B)"I'm passing this ball because the box is stacked". IMO those are the options instead of blindly handing the ball off even if that was what was called. As I said, maybe the best play was to call a TO instead of forcing a run in a stacked box. So you asked me what I saw and that's what I see

JALEN HURTS UPDATE: Hurts and the starting offense didn’t look crisp. Hurts began 7-on-7 with three straight reps where the ball either didn’t get out in a timely manner ... or at all. Hurts was "sacked” multiple times, which wasn’t entirely on him (Josh Sweat beat Jordan Mailata quickly at one point) but he didn’t help the situation. It feels like it’s been feast or famine in terms of Hurts either getting out the ball quickly for a short reception or holding onto it for forever. Hurts overthrew a fairly wide open deep target on a play where "pressure” forced him to roll left. Had he put some more air under it instead of zipping it, the receiver should’ve had it comfortably or at least had a chance to make a play. How much should be made of Hurts not looking his sharpest this spring? Hard to say

This is the photo we see above, the indecision from Hurts and lack of passing plays in favor of runs in the RPO. This same stuff is what caused the JV safety sack  in TB. This is the step Hurts has not taken YET. They said 95% of the offense is NEW yet Hurts is struggling in camp to learn it and/or execute it. This seriously needs fixed PRONTO

The RB is on the other side. He has to turn towards the RB to stick the  ball in his belly first. That’s how the play is run. Load up the left side with two very dangerous WR. But Bellicheat had a plan for the RPO weak one.

How are you going to read what’s occurring behind your back? Makes no sense!

You just don’t understand that much football here. Hurts is turned to the right putting the ball in the RBs belly. Reading the DE to decide for the RB or himself to keep it.

You aren’t understanding the play call. It wasn’t a shotgun snap pass play. It was an RPO. It was an all out blitz. Three unblocked defenders to the right. QB keeping the ball on that play was suicide.

The handoff to the RB was the right answer. Pats went with a pretty ballsy playcall to stop the RPO. They isolated Goedert all the way outside by himself. It was possible that worked out to getting a LB one on one against Goedert in many D playcalls on a manageable third down. Goedert on any LB with no help should spell huge play. But not what the Pats were doing.

Fangio targeted Bain for the starting off ball LB role. Brought in Devin White. Pretty much was decided in the offseason those two were the guys Fangio was rolling with.

I like getting the young guys involved though. Test them out and get them experience.

Kind of what they’ve been doing saying those opportunities. Nolan, Steen….Dean his rookie year. Plenty of opportunities to have gotten more looks at Dean in mop up time his rookie year…at the least.

Kind if shows you just how much they were relying on Hurts to deliver the deep ball. Exactly what I want Hurts adding to his repertoire.

Again.... on the left side there is a numbers advantage which includes our best player.   QB can see this OBVIOUS advantage right there in front and make his decision.   You see AJ running a route on this play....so he was an option.

The QB needs to see these things.

The pass on the left side was the right call.   Not even a question about it.

Once a DC sees that it doesn't matter if you don't match up because the QB won't go off script... that's when the offense is in trouble.

With his back turned he needs to see those things behind him
