Sao Paolo is only 2 hrs ahead of us, long flight tho

We have a game in Brazil this year…UGH!

Freaking cool to me. I’m from Idaho and lived in Brazil for about a year and a half a long time ago. My profile name of senhorcook is Mr Cook in Portuguese, which I speak fluently after living there. Brazilians have a faint interest in the game, but they are ALL soccer fans. My obsession with the Eagles made a few friends there interested. They are crazy excited that it’s the Eagles that will be there. I wish I could go actually. Super cool.

4 hours ahead of me in the Mountain time zone. And a LOT farther away for a flight. I’ve never been there beyond the airport. Rio is an AWESOME city to spend time in. So if anyone goes, make time to go and spend time in Rio. Sao Paulo is massive…may not be anymore, but for a long time it was the 2nd largest city by population in the world.

I always wanted to go to Brazil. Bucket list of going to Carnival in Rio. Biggest craziest party in the whole world. Just gorgeous voluptuous women I’ve always been a sucker for. Those I’ve met in the know warn that going to Rio for Carnival is a near setup trap though that attracts all the worst thieves and worse. That if all you get is your wallet snatched consider yourself lucky. So an Eagles game down there highly entices me. I’ve at least had a slight dabble in French, German and Spanish. Not a single clue about understanding…much less speaking Portuguese. So much of the world has a fair amount of their population that speaks English. Brazil I can’t believe would be high at all on that list. French, German or Spanish I could put a little time in to learn and become passable enough. Already been to Germany. Been to Spanish speaking countries. Struggled my short quick visit to France. Portuguese would take me a massive investment and effort to get to anything remotely passable levels to do anything but rely on translation. Internet has really improved on translating. So I’d be completely relying on whichever source I used to translate. Played games and such with people all over the world. So have a good amount of experience with communicating through completely different cultures while relying on it converting through being translated. It’s a challenge. Got keep things especially basic. Only once you experience a situation trying to communicate with such different cultures do you have any clue how much we all communicate with ideas being expressed based on what only we experience in our world. Movie, music, slang..all these references so normal. They don’t know what you are referencing…or get the meaning of our sayings. That’s before you even are talking about how that comes through being translated.

So true. Learning Portuguese was one of the most difficult things I ever did. Got to the point I spoke it well enough to tell locals that I was from Southern Brazil, and they bought it. Spoke the slang from 1990. Went back 10 years ago to visit friends and they all laughed at me when I used the "old”slang. Had to "catch up” on the new stuff. Still facetime with friends every so often to keep my language skills as NOBODY in Boise speaks it.  Haha. Lots of wonderful people there! Yes, crime is much more prevalent. Keys: dont be a loud mouth dueche. And pay attention where you are at night. And dont carry much cash with you EVER. Keep your flashy watch in the hotel and use your cell phone cautiously. No problem then.

Is there anyway you believe it’s based on him not being amongst the top 32 best options as a HC?

Yes... in 2024 the reports were that the main factor is the owners believe he lost touch with how to coach the modern players.   The league looks for the fresh ideas and approach.

I think Belicheck would be a great defensive coordinator.   Defensive strategist...etc.   For me,that's where it ends right now.  Dude had a great run in the long middle of his head coaching career with Tom Brady...  the before and after ... not good at all.

Would be a great road game....the locals who go to the home games aren't thrilled.... being it is the " Philadelphia " Eagles.

Curious to see if Dallas plays 9 games in their stadium this year... on top of never traveling for a Thursday game after playing on a Sunday.

The best thing though is that it's week. 1 and not going to mess up and travel or rest during the season.

I’ve been in the minority opinion with my thinking about Fields amongst this board. You guys seem to have seen things to make you think he can be a franchise guy that can take a team there(win big games).

Fields has produced when given the chance he has made big time throws that guys have dropped…. The supporting cast is a factor… not sure Fields is a franchise guy or not but again throw Hurts in Chicago he is going to look bad throw Mahomes with NO OL no WRs he going to look like SB lose Mahomes with no OL just scrambling for his life.

Personally feel like the bears aren’t in a position to succeed with any QB so if ride with Fields gain capital and strengthen the roster get Alt the best T get Harrison Jr at WR.

If Fields flops fine you should still have multiple picks in the next couple drafts to get a new QB and should still have a high pick

I even look at Stroud who I think is amazing and I believe he is better then Bryce Young… But if they were to switch situations not sure Stroud does much better in Carolina they are just a bad team horrible OL meh WRs to support the QB all around tough spot for any QB

Just to further my point. Put Hurts at QB take away all our all pro OL(all our backups)with Gainwell at RB, only one WR(Smith) on top of bad coaching(though bears staff started to get something going toward the end)

Now picture Fields… Hurts looked terrible end of year and he still had good players around him just bad coaching, Fields had bad players, and coaching

I won’t defend every bad mistake Hurts made this season.

Question for the older fans here who have watched the game since the 60s-70s

Staubach, Bradshaw, Tarkenton, Montana,  Elway, Young,  Favre...  I would consider all those QBs as mobile guys.

This " the game has evolved " BS argument that you need a dual threat at QB...not a statue.   I disagree... I think the top QBs always could move.  Just that we went through an era where Manning and Brady were probably the least mobile of the top QBs who dominated their era...  so the perception is that it's some huge evolution,  when reality is just the slower guys were at the top recently.

You can throw Brees in there I guess...but even then, Big Ben, Rodgers, Wilson... they all were guys that could move.

I don't see some big evolution here... it's always been guys that can avoid the sack have been successful.   Still the top guys need to see the field and make the throws.

I think people confuse  QBs who can run and QBs who move well in the pocket. Big Ben needed a calendar to run a 40 but moved in the pocket to escape the rush. Hurts runs well bit i don't think he's particularly good at moving in the pocket to escape the rush

Ben 4.75 .... not that slow at all.

Not really about Hurts either... just the point where the game was never about having statue QBs... just think the timing of Manning and Brady is the reason why it seem so extreme.

Biggest change is the quick passing...  yes 49ers had the West coast short passing game, was never to the extreme where QB catches the snap and instantly throws the bubble screens. Those plays developed.   Brady and Manning and to an extent Brees took the quick passing to another level.

Marino had a quick release... still didn't just unload the ball right away, the plays developed.

Throw in the rule changes where the QB can't get hit anywhere close to before and the CBs can't breathe on the WR....that's the evolution of the game.    Not mobile QBs.

Fantasy football has glorified it more along with being protected from hits.  But game has always benefited from having a QB that could move, again...few exceptions ( Brady, Manning,  Marino)

In my mind the perfect example of someone who couldn't run  but moved well is Foles

Just the hypothetical since I’ve seen us linked to his name a few times would you give up our first round pick for Surtain from the Broncos

Pick 22 this year...sure.  Especially if there is the idea of unloading both Slay and Bradberry.

Why not. At least you know what you're getting.

Very much so with didn’t Fangio coach him his rookie year?

I'm not sure. It would be easy to assume it as likely. Then you have the connection of our new defensive backs coach Christian Parker from Denver.

So it’s being reported Kliff Kingsbury was our front runner for our vacant OC job.

That on that very detailed second meeting where things got very detailed he wanted too much power.
