Question for the knowledgeable. If a college player opts out and the team goes forward with the season, does he lose his scholarship? On the one hand, he is withholding his services; on the other it is for a good if amorphous medical reason.

I think if he had medical documentation saying it was not recommended that he participate, he might be able to keep his scholarship.  I think absent that documentation, he would have a hard time.

Interesting

Wow.....that would be disastrous for them if he opted out.  They're built to go far this year with the rest of the teams in that division completely falling apart.

Imagine reneging on a contract and still expected for them to uphold their part of the agreement.

You should know all about that after the Antonio Brown saga.................

Interesting indeed. I liked him in last years draft quite a bit actually. He’s very athletic for a TE.

The NCAA Board of Governors came out today and said that schools must honor scholarships of those who opt out.

I can’t imagine anyone siding with schools having the ability to hold the athlete’s scholarship hostage during a pandemic.

He’s fast, but not all that athletic.

You’re right, it was a speed thing. My bad. I did like him as a developmental guy though.

I dont think they should force the kids to play, or hold it over there heads, but at that point there not students.

*IF* they want to come back next year, sure, you'll get your scholarship back. But to just go to school for free because of a contract you ripped up, thats a hard no from me. But tis America bending over backwards to give crap away and be nice.

Taking care of student-athletes during a pandemic is indicative of what’s wrong with America is certainly an interesting take to have.

Derrick Gunn apparently has been let go in layoffs at NBC Sports Philly.

Letting them know if they kick and scream they get what they want any ways.

God forbid they take care of the kids who they make millions of dollars off and those kids don’t see any of that money

Fact Gerry and Mailata aren’t activated sure seems to suggest they have the virus.  Five days after positive test and two negative tests at least 24 hours apart. They listed on 7/29 so they are at day eight. They and Lane are closing in on day 10 if asymptomatic.  Of course, day 10does not equal virus free.  I think they still have to test negative.  Wonder if at this point the team doesn’t go super safe given the recurrence suggested in some instances.

Feel bad for Gunn but not for listeners.

Taking care of students on scholarships is just right. Not just athletes but any scholarship recipients.  That said, I could see withdrawing a scholarship on a player that is opting out to prepare for the draft.  That student isn’t coming back and I could see moving that scholarship to another deserving player.  At least a couple of players with possible first round grades have specifically said they are opting out for that reason.  Teams are limited on scholarships by the NCAA.

Interesting take by Doug.  Think the Eagles PS is attractive to players. Especially with the elevation and success of Scott and Ward and several CBs, DTs, and OL over the last few years who have stuck elsewhere.

Not Eagles related, just 'me' related... lost power because of this storm, at about 4 AM the Tuesday and it just came back on. So almost 36 hours. Better than Hurricane Isabel from 2003, when I was without power for a little over a week (or so).

Without my portable AC, I'd have probably lost 25 lbs due to the heat lol.

This I agree with. Once you declare (and it’s before the semester begins), live off the agent’s dime.

Will definitely put that high on the prayer priorities list!

1) Mom and Dad healthy

2) Grandma stays clear of COVID in nursing home

3) DE7's butthole

4) Friends and family that were laid off find new jobs

5) Sports continue!

Same with the power, no AC last night was not ideal but at least we're far enough north that it isn't as brutally hot. A generator hopped near the top of the list of our wish list.

Where I live, and have lived for the past 28 years now, the power goes out at least a few times per year (now). It used to go out every time the weatherman would mention a storm... or even think about a storm. Going out 10 times per summer wasn't an unusual thing lol. So I've had a generator since the 90's.

What I would like to have is a standby generator, but it goes out so infrequently now (if you call a few times per year, infrequent), that I just can't justify an expense of $8,000 to $10,000 for it.

So I have my portable generator and I have a portable AC, and that works. I got the AC because we have one room (the family room). That room is kind of segregated from the rest of the house and can get pretty hot, even with the main AC running. I actually have two geo-thermal heat pump/AC units. One for the bedroom side of the house and one for the other side of the house. We don't want to run the 'other side of the house' unit just to cool the family room, so I bought the portable AC (and cut a hole in the wall/outside of the house to vent it). It's been a really good AC unit, has lasted nearly 10 years now and comes in really handy during power failures.

A $10,000 standby generator would be strong enough to run one of the main units though, but like I said, I just couldn't justify that much of an expenditure for something that would be used only a couple times per year. But when the power does go out, I always wish I had it lol.
