The Curry addition shouldn’t come as a surprise.  Their rotation requires 4 DE’s.

In a COVID shortened offseason, all the young DEs are unknowns at best or unseasoned and untrustworthy at worst.

Not to mention...they have 3 DEs Schwartz is willing to put on the field.  One is 32 and the other 2 have major injury and durability concerns.  Behind them, there is Shareef Miller, who it seems they never liked (there were whispers he almost didn’t make the team as a rookie 4th round pick).  Avery couldn’t dress for the Browns or for us and is a pure situational rusher.

They are going to need Curry.   While he may not provide much of a rush, he knows what he needs to do here and will hold his gap.

That's the grim reality.  Still holding out hope a young guy can emerge.

Yes

I still intend to correct anyone who refers to any event prior to 2020 in the team's history as WFT, or whatever the new name will be.

If the Eagles offense ends up doing well over the next year or so I wonder if Duce will get a HC gig. Running game specialists aren't exactly in the highest demand but still.

I think Duce will eventually get a shot as a head coach. With a strong OC and DC I think he’d do well. Tomlin and Harbaugh have both had a ton of success.

Think he has to demonstrate play calling abilities, especially in the passing game.

Why?  Reid didn't before getting hired by the Eagles.  Harbaugh, Tomlin, etc.

I was just doing it because of how absurdly stupid it sounds

I'm confused. I was under the impression Doug would be coming back as soon as he tests negative

He is.   His absence has emphasized Duce's role as the "assistant head coach" though. Our offense hasn't been incredibly potent recently but I would argue that's more talent related recently, and our run game hasn't typically been the culprit.  Just thinking if our offense gets good again he could be a HC candidate the following year or so.

Reid had a boatload of experience as a OL and QB coach.  Harbaugh was mainly a ST coordinator but he also had experience in coaching secondary and even a little TEs.  Tomlin had experience coaching wide receivers and secondaries.  He was a DC the year before he became a HC.  Duce has seven years as a RB coach but did broaden a bit three years ago when given the assistant HC title.  That probably helped AR because he was QB/Assistant HC at Green Bay when he interviewed with the Eagles.  I think Duce may need to do what Harbaugh did and take a different position to achieve the next step. Working with Doug may help though. He may have to do what Bieniemy did and do a year in college as an OC.  He should let Franklin know.  Bieniemy did a year at his alma mater as OC and Franklin goes through OCs like crazy.

I have no issues with Zach Ertz very good player. I just don't see it happening especially with him turning down being paid the highest tight end in the league this past year. He's going to want too much money which will force his way out.

It's just very rare you see a player play as entire career with one team. I'm not sure we see this happen with Zack unless he takes less money and then retires like Brent celek did instead of taking a different gig

A little worried about Lane, Gerry and Mailata.  Past ten days since they went on the Covid list.  This virus can linger and cause other health issues.  They are clearly not contact listings and at this point seem to be illness listings.

I assume coming from a guy who played through an era where players made less money and played no matter what:

Providing  them the perspective that most people dont have millions in a bank to opt out of work for a while.

Also that he thinks their job with all of the precautions will be far less dangerous than many essential worker jobs.

Apparently he thinks everyone should play.

Sweat is the most interesting player at DE, in my opinion. I think he could be better than Barnett this year based on flashes he showed last year.

I agree about interesting.  I think he is already on Barnett 's level.

yeah sadly every one of our scrub DEs is on Barnett's level. Graham and Curry are better.

If we had better pass rush from our DEs I think we might be competing for a super bowl.

But even with a potentially improved secondary, and a great looking DT rotation the DE group holds back my excitement a ton for this D.

I think it is likely the top pick in next years draft tbh. Graham is going into the last year of his contract in 2021. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a down year if he’s a post June 1st cut along with potentially malik jackson next year.

Barnett hasn’t lived up to his drafting. Good chance if he doesn’t play well this year i could see him not being back either at that 10 mil price tag. sweat to me reminds me of Jaqua Parker. Not in terms of build or athleticism just in potential career arc. Solid player likely better in a backup role then starter but can give you starter reps from time to time but likely more effective as a rotational DE.

Didn’t love miller when we drafted him. Frankly i didn’t see him as a 4th round pick and didn’t see the upside as a developmental guy when watching him at penn state and reading up on him. I loved ostman as a backup DE but i feel that injury is going to hurt him. Avery has speed but i think he’s also just a backup. Curry is old and is a stop gap. Toohill i believe is a PS guy this year with upside

havent looked at the FA market next year for DE but of ngakoue reaches i have to believe if the eagles could figure their cap situation out they’d be players in that market as well as looking for one early in the draft.

I think the Barnett pick is a product of the Joe Douglas focus on production philosophy. Barnett in college was on over achiever due to out working the competition. Proof that on the college level hard work can beat talent if talent doesn't work hard. But in pro football almost everyone works hard because almost everyone has talent and you won't succeed in the NFL without hard work. You will not beat your opponent with hard work and average talent.
