I dont think desean or reagor are coming off the field for ward.

I imagine ward will be the slot in 3 WR sets and in 2 wide either with 2 RBs or more likely 2 TEs it will be desean and reagor or desean and. JJ as JJ was/ is viewed more of an X receiver.

If they want to bring in Ward as the 4th WR in 4 and 5 Receiver sets than thats ok.

From what Pederson has said it sounds like they have a bigger role for ward than 4th WR but well see.

After pumphrey was drafted all summer we heard about Dougs " pony" formation with pumphrey being in a two back set, that pony formation for pumphrey went right out the window in the trash after about the first practice when all the coaches realized pumphrey couldnt play.

Theyve seen a bit more of ward and hes actually played in games so id lean towards believing the plan they have for Ward is a bit more conctrete.

Well see im not expecting much from Ward, i think hell make the team and play some and make a few plays here and there which isnt bad for an undrafted qb turned WR.

My wording was poor. I meant when Ward is on the field we’re taking off one of Ertz or Goedert.

Same reason a ton of really good players move on — cost.

The Eagles will evaluate Ertz’s worth relative to their offensive philosophy at the end of this season.  There’s no question at all that Ertz has been force fed the ball the past 2 seasons; last season was out of necessity — 2018 was to the detriment of the offense as a whole.

I don’t think anyone disputes that Ertz is a really good player.  I would dispute that he’s worth anywhere close to $14M per season — and that might be the minimum it takes to keep him.

I think Ertz would sign here for a 12-13 Mil/year extension. This won’t be his first big pay check, and he wants to be here to play with Carson. Look at how much we’re paying Alshon, Desean, and Agholor last year. I’d take Ertz at 12-13 million over any of them. That’s of course all assuming he stays at this level of play. Given that he’s going to be 32 when his current contract ends, I wouldn’t give him any more than a 2-3 year max extension.

I will say that Ward has some potential upside.  I don't think his upside is making a pro-bowl.  I could see him being like Amendola and having a decent career as a slot receiver.  My hope is that he's the number 4 receiver or a rotational player.

Regarding an Ertz extension, I think it ultimately comes down to whether or not a 2 TE offense is the best fit for Doug and this team. Certainly the loss of DeSean/any respectable deep threat hurt last year, but... https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2019/12/3/20993242/eagles-news-philadelphia-actually-been-worst-team-nfl-out-12-personnel-two-tight-end-sets-football

In 11 personnel, I might rather have Goedert in there than Ertz due to his superior blocking. If the Eagles feel the same way, I don't see how you can give Ertz anywhere near Kelce money.

As a depth player, I see the draw to Ward. Excitement for him as the No. 3 is a hard pass based on what he showed last year.

He wasn't dynamic but he made some clutch catches.  I think his game winning catch against Washington was very good.  I mean is he going to take a slant to the house probably not unless the secondary falls.  He can get open and make good catches.  That seems like an upgrade over Agholor from last season.

I'd like a whole season's worth, yes.

He played seven games and caught 28 passes. That works out to, um, four catches a game. In a 16-game season that would be 64 catches. Average gain was 9.1 yards. That works out to a little under 600 yards. I'll take that as the more and be content, though I think he'll get closer to 800 yards IF IF IF we have a season. JMHO, of course.

Anyway, that's my more.

I would prefer a receiver with more talent.  That's my more

this is what I'd be okay with number 4

That was a really nice play.

As for the upgrade over Agholor, there are about 125 receivers in the league who would have been an upgrade last year.

haha I saw that.  But no Greg Ward what gives!     Kidding.

Greg Ward isn't a WR 1 or WR 2 or maybe even a WR3. But in comparison with the likes of Mack Hollins, Mike Wallace, he did something on the field.  I try to think of him as the WR equivalent of Steven Means. Always on the edge of the game day roster, but gives a lot outside of game day to the team and is one who is maxing out his talent every day.  He's fine.  Is he replaceable?  Yup. But other needs to take the shirt from him too.

Yup, cant play 12 personnel the whole game. Thought i read somewhere that eagles were the least effective offense out of 12 could be misremembering but that would be odd seeing as they ran 12 personnel more than any other team.

If Ertz could block then spending so much time in 12 might be more effective, also might have been more effective if there was actual threat at WR last year in 12.

This year one has the potential to run 12 personnel with desean and reagor on the outside with their speed and ertz and goedert working the middle.

Well see if pederson plays as much 12 this season or did so much last year out of necessity due to injury and in effectiveness at WR.

How do you define talent? JJAW and Agholor have more talent, is that it? Bigger, faster , stronger. Ability to actually play the game, I guess, doesn’t count. Edelman and Amendola and Landry don’t measure up either in the talent department. It must be luck, because they lack talent.

Ward has limited tools and has been around the NFL for years now. There doesnt appear to be much/any more room for growth from him and the only time he has ever flashed was when he was the best WR on the worst WR corps in recent NFL history. What little production he had then looks like nothing more than fools gold. he was as average as average gets and only looked pretty good relative to the rest of our WR corps.

imo its crazy to root for him over any other young more talented WR option. Hes simply not good.

Where did theY get those?  He didn’t perform at the combine as he was recovering from reinjuring his ankle in the all star game and the pro day he wasn’t fully recovered.  I have seen times from his pro day from high 4.4s to 4.58. Never saw a 4.64. Ever.  As you know, I am a UH alum. I know Ward timed in the low 4.4s at UH as a student.  He is not as fast as the three we drafted this year but he is faster and more agile than JJAW.

C’mon.
Ertz has been an absolute Stud for us since he’s been here. Best TE in Eagle history and on the road to HOF. Made the most clutch catches in Eagle history. Plays injured, I don’t get the hate or the "don’t pay him crowd”.

I hope he plays his entire career here. He’s our best Offensive player IMO. He loves Philly, wants to be here and is a Good Dude.

I like Ertz but he isn’t in the same league with Kittle of Kelce.  He really doesn’t block well.  Performs better flanked out not in line.  His YAC is not what you would expect from a TE.  He just isn’t a well rounded TE. I don’t hate him but I am being honest of my view of his play.  Above 32, which is what he will be at the end of his current contract, I don’t see him as a eight figure TE.

For those of you that want Ward in the slot. What is the downside to finding a better player than him to play in the slot?

I may be Ward’s biggest cheerleader but my preference is he is in the rotation, not the only slot.  I see him as fourth WR but under threat from Hightower.  I want the Eagles to maximize their talent.  One would hope, given the investment, that JJAW shows up as either a better X or slot (former seems more likely) and that DJax and Reagor are splitting plays in the slot and Z.  I would love it if Ward and Hightower contribute enough to get some playing time and give the Eagles depth.  Not sure about Watkins yet.

Fourth COVID test today, part of pre-op for the second back surgery I'm about to have. I tested positive back in March, no major symptoms, quarantined for two weeks and after two negative tests was granted freedom again.

Medical folks here:  If someone has already been infected and recovered, is there a chance you can still get it? Thinking the test today was basically following protocol...was it necessary?

I hate water up my nose, and I especially hate a swab being inserted so far into my nasal cavity that my eyes water.

My hospital system is Covid testing everyone pre-op.

That answer is still not 100% known or proven.
