I suspect he had known issues considering how long he was on the market before the Panthers signed him last year. Then they let him go after a 5 sack season. Then he wasnt an immediate signing this year... and Dallas happened to have that clause in there. Seems like it was a thing.

I haven't looked up his injury history although I'm about to.  I don't remember Gerald McCoy being injury prone at all, but I'm sure I'm wrong.  Even so.......that is so specific.  They protected themselves and got a draft pick from it.

I just looked it up he does seem to have a history of muscle strains and tears
