I have asked for raises before. What's the big deal?

No big deal. FIRST, you earn it; then you ask.

I've never played OL in my life, but I always think about how ungratifying it would be to play a position like that.  If nobody talks about you, then you've done your job.  I undertstand it... IF from a young age you were bred to be a 300 lb ballerina on skates, but Mailata was playing professional rugby with the ball in his hands running over people because of his athleticism and size.  Then he's tossed into the NFL learning mechanics, footwork, use of hands, Stoutland intensity, etc.  It can't be an easy mental transition, but I'd like @justrelax take on this.

I understand that money talks, but I always wonder how much these guys actually love the job itself.

Most of them love it beyond description.

I can't think of it offhand, but perhaps it's out there.....is there one example in NFL history or in sports history of a player refusing to accept an upgraded role...on a fresh contract ...after the calendar year has begun...without a pay raise?  I can't think of a single example.

No because it’s stupid. He got up to $6M because that’s what his talent calls for regardless of the position. Just like Brandon Brooks gets paid for what his talent calls for. Move him to LT and he’s making almost top 5 money.

This is all Peters huge ego who sees an opportunity to get paid more after a soft market never wanted him.

Let's clarify something here so that we are all speaking the same language.

Is Peters asking for a raise or is he refusing to play LT without oneDifferent posters have used each of those phrases.

One is fine.  The other is not.

😄😄😄 So somebody made a vid of this now Smash or pass???😄

I threw up at Russel Wilson.

I think it’s pretty clear. Not sure on the exact numbers but I believe he signed a $6 mil deal this year but in previous years he’s made $11-15 mil on average? So sounds like he’s refusing to play without one since he clearly knows his (or speculates) his value.

I'm interested to know if he’d have the same stance mid season.

I'll say again, there is an unending list of players who have held out in the last year of their contract because they wanted an extension.  There is a list of players who have held out because they felt they outplayed their contract after as little as 1 year.

In NFL history, I have never heard of a player refusing a depth chart/positional promotion unless they get more money.  When LT's go down, it's often a starter from elsewhere on the line that bumps out.  In NFL history, have you heard of one demand more money in order to play LT?  Have you heard of a backup at any position ask for more money to start?  Have you heard of a slot WR ask for more money before taking snaps out wide?

Plenty of TEs have asked for WR money because they split out wide. LBs that are pass rushers like Khalil Mack.

Have they told the coach they won’t split out wide unless they get that money?  Has the LB said they won’t blitz?

Jimmy Graham was paid 10 million a year, which at that time equates to the number 7th highest paid receiver.

Khalil Mack held out and was traded, then paid as the top pass rusher (And defender) in the league. Raiders still are looking for pass rushers.

Stop acting like this doesn’t happen in the league.

You never answered the question.   And it doesn't happen.  Ever.

As I said...Mack held out because he was in the last year of his rookie deal and wanted an extension.  Lots of players have done that.  What exactly does Jimmy Graham's salary have to do with the Jason Peters argument?  That's just a meaningless factoid.  If Mack or Graham signed a new contract and 1 month later refused to run routes out wide or blitz the QB, then we'd have a precedent for Peters.

Peters signed a contract 1 month ago and wants to be paid more because of an injury.  No player in NFL history has asked for more money on a fresh contract because their role changed.  This is more comparable to a backup QB asking for more money because the starter got injured, which has never happened and never will.

Are NFL teams allowed to have incentives in player contracts for not having personal social media accounts? If I owned a team I’d give players bonuses for not being on Twitter or instaGay

They'd just have an unofficial social media account then. I think you'd only stop it if you penalized them instead of giving incentives

I don't think there's been a clarification on it but it's definitely an important one.

If he's doing great at RG then I'd leave him there and either have one of the backups step in or sign someone for LT

Eagles were never going to get him anyway.

I'm just glad he's not going to the NFCE

JAX only traded him for a 2nd (and probably a latter half 2nd rounder unless the ViQueens collapse this season) and a 5th with conditions to be a 3rd at best (best possibility to be a 4th,  3rd unlikely)?  Was that really the best offer they could get for him?  Seems they should have done better.

I think they did well to get him for that. The Vikings can’t extend him so that lowered his trade value a few clicks.

I always figured a team would get him for a 2nd and 3rd round pick, even before the deadline passed on a new deal.  The contract and draft assets was always too steep for the Eagles in the end.

It always seems like JAX is unwilling to do business with the Eagles -- I believe when Ngakoue first wanted out and Howie inquired more than a year ago his offer would have been very close to this.

One last note on LT. Everybody out there screaming for "Veteran" presence to make you feel better going into the 2020 season?

Guess you weren't around for the last four games of the 2019 Regular Season.

But of course, it's the off season and a 50 M +++ Media empire has convinced you all that "Carson" did it all with a bunch of nobody's.

Tell you what. I'll take 9 out of 10 of those nobody's against your best ten suits.  Old guard nonsense.

The "Group" who won the NFC East which is your CORE going into 2020 ? They did it against PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS playing for PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTS. Do we need more talent?

Yes sir. But stop telling me all your "Names" are better because "on the field" they're not.
