Does that mean his salary for 2020 is now what he gets in 2021 and so on and so forth?  In a sense it gives the team an extra year of control?

The NFL can most likely survive one lost season but what if there isn't an effective vaccine next year?

If the league folds these players will have to get a job like the rest of us working stiffs who foolishly pay ridiculously high prices to watch a bunch of men play a game.

And yeah, i'm one of those fools.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe there have been discussions about a team getting some kind of compensation if too many starters opt out of this season

We can't plan our lives based upon a vaccine if you ask me.  We will be stuck in this crappy 2020 world forever if that's the case.  I'm not a doctor but a quick search shows that the flu vaccine is 40-60% effective in reducing the risk of getting the flu. So let's play the average and say 50% of the time it works.  On top of that only about 50% of the population gets the flu shot.  With those percentages, the flu vaccine works on only 25% of Americans.

Are you willing to keep life on hold for a vaccine that A. hasn't been developed yet, and B. might only work for 25% of the country?

In my opinion it's ridiculous to say we need to hold out for a vaccine.  If and when they develop a vaccine and people decide to get it, great.  However, we can't live life dependent on a vaccine.

This is why I don't understand all of the hate towards Hydroxychloroquine.  From reports I've read, it isn't a cure but it does help in certain cases.  If it can help even a small amount that's a good thing in my opinion.  I've never in my life seen people so against a potential aid in fighting a disease all because one man said it's good.

@HazletonEagle   am I way off track in this thinking?

Why sign Cam then? Just start Hoyer or Stidham.

I know I'm usually "In Howie we trust", but the being over the cap was based on the expectation of both cutting players and the cap rising. What are we now, 100M+ over the cap for 2021? That's a bit much.

Even worse if players opt out and their salary is further rolled into next season.

Howie is great, but I'm starting to sweat here.

This is where I don't understand the cap at all. There are teams who are giving their players far more than any eagles player is making and yet we seem to be the only team headed for cap hell.

The chiefs just gave mahomes 40 mil a year and signed like 3 other people to pretty sizable contracts, how can they afford that?

I'd tell you all to play this then go Lift instead of trying to come up with an OLD Adam Sandler line but Murph has got ya on that one eh?

Hahahaha. Just lift the couch.  Or rearrange the garage.

Because the big money kicks in down the line, not this year. Mahomes cap number is still as if he was a rookie.

Also, if they lose enough and have to go by the agreed cap minimum of $175M next year, half the league is currently over that cap. Cowboys would be over the cap and that's without tagging Dak. Saints are also in really tough cap space.

You're preaching to the choir.

I think Howie lost his magic.  It's time for him to get it back.  Let's keep an eye on teams with players opting out and maybe he can swing a trade to help fill those voids.
