From a football perspective, I have mixed feelings on the Goodwin opt-out.

On one hand, it gives us (and the FO) clarity.  It makes it a lot easier to play out the investment in Hightower and Watkins.  Now, your week 1 WR corps is Jackson/Reagor/Ward/JJAW/Hightower/Watkins.  Lock it in.  It would have been a disappointment to cut Hightower/Watkins due to a lack of information thanks to COVID.  Now they get their shot.

On the other hand, the entire purpose of Goodwin was 2020.  He is Desean Jackson insurance and a bridge for the development of Hightower/Watkins.  Next year, he'll be a fragile speed WR on the wrong side of 30, Desean will be gone (hopefully), Hightower/Watkins will be ready to play a bit (hopefully), and there will be yet another substantial investment/addition to the position (hopefully).

So this pretty much renders Goodwin in Philly completely useless.

Somehow Belichick is behind all of the Pats opting out. He planned this. Probably planned the whole pandemic

Do players that opt out still count against the cap?

I believe not, no.

Probably watched the top 100 nfl players of 2020 and got that idea.

Goodwin opting out.  He was a marginal acquisition.  He can run fast in a straight line.  Oh well.  No great loss.  We have plenty of marginal receivers that can run fast in a straight line.

Sounds like a big upgrade from last year

Frankly he can’t stay healthy either. He’s basically a less productive less talented version of desean.

Hightower vs. Watkins would have been the most fun training camp battle. Winner gets a roster spot, loser goes to the practice squad.

I can’t even speculate how good I think the Eagles are with all this crap going on. Just want 2021 to be normal at this point.

Idk might keep both. Desean, JJAW, Ward, reagor, Hightower and Watkins. Desean never stays healthy and can’t trust him. And JJAW is unproven.

Yeah i can't even begin to think about it. I mean who knows which players are going to opt out.

Here’s an example of the disaster that this season will be. Imagine Wentz having to miss a game due to a false positive test...

More of like a 19 win team.

Random cap point...lots of consternation about our 2021 cap situation.

Howie usually signs ~1-2 starters and adds one trade & sign per offseason.  On this list, we've got Brooks, Darby, Alshon, Hargrave, Slay, Malik Jackson, Desean Jackson.  Yes, that creativity has been a crutch for his inability to draft.

What does all this cap panic for 2021 really mean?  Well, we are about to reap the benefits of not drafting any good players for a few years.  We aren't going to lose anyone...no young player is going to walk for big money elsewhere.  They aren't going to have to cut/trade any important players.  This will just have to be an offseason where they don't land that one impact starter in FA...or trade for a player on another team that wants more money.  So they won't be able to make additions.  They'll have to rely on the drafts.  I don't think that is really huge cap pain.

I think that’s one of the best case scenarios. I tend to think they are a 8-8 or 9-7 team. Desean staying healthy and a bunch of question marks at safety and after desean at WR. Literally 3 rookies and JJAW behind ward and desean right now.

We can't plan our lives based upon a vaccine if you ask me.  We will be stuck in this crappy 2020 world forever if that's the case.  I'm not a doctor but a quick search shows that the flu vaccine is 40-60% effective in reducing the risk of getting the flu. So let's play the average and say 50% of the time it works.  On top of that only about 50% of the population gets the flu shot.  With those percentages, the flu vaccine works on only 25% of Americans.

Are you willing to keep life on hold for a vaccine that A. hasn't been developed yet, and B. might only work for 25% of the country?

In my opinion it's ridiculous to say we need to hold out for a vaccine.  If and when they develop a vaccine and people decide to get it, great.  However, we can't live life dependent on a vaccine.

This is why I don't understand all of the hate towards Hydroxychloroquine.  From reports I've read, it isn't a cure but it does help in certain cases.  If it can help even a small amount that's a good thing in my opinion.  I've never in my life seen people so against a potential aid in fighting a disease all because one man said it's good.

@HazletonEagle   am I way off track in this thinking?

Unfortunately the overwhelming amount of evidence simply does not back that up. I won't bog down the blog with too much back and forth on this but here's a thread from a prominent epidemiologist out of Harvard with links to a number of studies.

I didn’t realize he had those other issues.

I see the Eagles as a 4-5 win team

...I have them at 4-2 or 5-2 when the season shuts down.

I don’t mind him opting out at all. However i thought him as a reliable option or a solution wasn’t very great to begin with. He is always hurt and really only productive in like 2 seasons.

Sorry.  But when it comes to drafting....he never had the magic.  It's hard to maneuver your way out of years and years of bad drafting.  Signing old broke down vets to bloated contracts is not a wise alternative to sound draft decisions.  It's going to be a rough go for the next few years until.  I don't blame Howie.  He's got the title and the salary and enjoying the job.  Lurie is the one who put the team in the position of relying on a bean counter to be the General Manager.  And that decision is going to haunt this team.

That's why I'm implying trading.  He has a knack for some decent trades.  I agree, and have been very vocal about his lack of success drafting.

The problem will be if the 3 rookies are behind Ward and JJAW.

Trade him is right before the season get cancelled.

I think that's almost inevitable isn't it? They have to go with 6 WRs so that's Desean, Alshon, JJAW, Ward and then Hightower and Watkins.

Well desean is missing at least 2-4 games next year that’s a given. At some point your WR group is going to be JJAW, Ward, 3 rookies. To me that’s asking a lot of 3 rookies and JJAW who wasn’t good his rookie year and had no really offseason camps his second year. Which again brings me back to my maybe we should’ve signed Robby Anderson when his market price Dropped. Like no offense Goodwin wasn’t a very good solution in general imo. He’s always hurt and really has had like 1 good year in his entire career followed by a ton of less than stellar years or injured.

Well I’m guessing alshon is on pup to start the year.
