August 1, 20205 yr As a vague comparison. Three international cricket teams have been in the UK for the last few weeks at various stages of bubbles. The nearest they got to a case after travel was one player self isolating for going home. For some matches, there have been circa 60+ people staying at a ground for 2 weeks - players, coaches and media. F1 has also been bubbling around Europe and one driver caught COVID because he flew home to Mexico to see his mother. The domestic cricket season started today and in terms of personnel numbers, similar to MLB, but a higher time spent on the field. Be interesting to see the COVID figures in the coming weeks. If Cricket and F1 can do bubbling and survive, then there is some thing wrong in MLB in particular, and NFL if they can't. It comes to attitude and mindset of those involved and how professional they are. MLB from the outside looks a very unprofessional and laissez faire sport and the chaos they are causing other enterprises at the moment could have big impacts on many livings. If you can't live in relative comfort in hotels for 2-3 months and pick up life changing money for the privilege, you are a self entitled idiot.

There are multiple ways of doing it and the NFL seems like it would rather cancel the season. 1. Quarantine the teams in their own cities. Marriott has to be hurting now and the Eagles used to stay at one before home games anyway. Make a deal to get a discount or make them the official hotel of the NFL for the season and Marriott can write off the 64 hotels. At that point they just have to disinfect the charter jets. 2. Quarantine all the teams in central Florida. There are thousands upon thousands of rooms/timeshares/etc from Orlando to Tampa and multiple football, college, and soccer stadiums they can use. 3. Quarantine the teams in 4 to 6 locations around the country. Texas, FL, CA, AZ, etc with the same principles above. It's messy, but absolutely capable of getting done with their money. Instead they are intent on wasting everyone's time. When baseball can't even go a few weeks there is no way football is happening. I've said this before, but if 18 and 19 year-old kids making 40k a year if they are lucky can do it in the military on deployment then a bunch of millionaires can suck it up for a few months and live in a bubble.

My suspicion is their attitude is it wont be me, I'll be fine and I'll still get paid whatever happens

Just think if they were serious they would look at options. Going with this is ridiculous and just a massive waste of time. Be fun to watch at least one game though to see how the rookies played.

There are many avenues available and I hope part of the "now" experience will inform NFL teams that perhaps players stay in a team hotel from Wednesday morning thru Sunday to help them stay COVID free and away from temptation. Frankly, it's a great carrot for the Coaching staff If you don't take care of your business, we'll do it for you.

I used to listen to them when I would drive to school when I was in high school and they were the definition of vanilla with no stimulative discussion or substance. I think Dan Patrick is the standard for morning sports talk. I listen to his show every morning and I think he's the best interviewer out there. No softball questions and if he doesn't like the answers he's getting from his guest, he calls them out. I think he's 10x the radio host that Greenberg/Golic are/were. I love Dan Patrick too. Him, Olberman and my personal favorite Craig Kilborn were the best ESPN anchors. Eisen was good too.

It was nice that they changed it but whatever...didn't realize it was going to cause such a stir..... 🤷♂️ I asked them to change the name of the thread because we have members of this board that are currently in the hospital, fighting Covid. I didn't think the entire "learned to love the virus" thing was in good taste, knowing those guys are sick...that's all. Well, I guess that officially ends my "political correctness"message board moderating career. I haven't seen this mentioned yet but that phrasing was an allusion to Stanley Kubrick's satirical period piece "Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb", with Peter Sellers, George C. Scott and a host of other notable actors, a decidedly irreverent and over-the-top look at the hysteria prevalent during the Cold War days and one possible outcome of the "Mutually Assured Destruction" Doctrine adopted by the Super Powers of the day. @Connecticut Eagle can weigh in on this as to his intentions or if he was even aware of the tie-in ( I'm pretty sure he must have been...). Maybe it was a slightly off the mark attempt to lighten the mood around here, inject a small measure of humor or just trying to be clever. I'm sure he didn't intend to try to minimize the deadly serious nature of this virus and the consequences felt by so many. Was it insensitive? Maybe. Was it purposefully hurtful? I seriously doubt it. He doesn't strike me as that kind of lowlife. ( some other kinds, maybe but not THAT kind...). The title has been changed, the dust has settled, let's just move on and get back to critiquing our new Middle Linebacker, TJ Edwards... edited...just saw JR posted up about this as well. Carry on...
