3. Pass rush (biggest concern). We are entirely relying on Nolan + Huff and both were terrible tonight. Was it the field? Maybe. But they didn’t stand out in camp and neither is a proven every down player. TEs were eating Nolan’s lunch 1v1 and Huff was a ghost. If they don’t step up we’re square and fairly Fd. Let’s pray it was poor footing ala SB field against Chiefs. Still - not holding my breath. I want Reddick back or something. We could be a solid pass rush away from being legit SB contenders.

Something to watch is how good Brian Burns is with the Giants. and Chase Young with the Saints. The Giants traded a 2nd, 2025 5th and swapped 5th round picks this year for Burns. The Eagles traded a 3rd round pick for Kenny Pickett. They also had their 2 2nd round picks still in their pocket when Burns was traded. Granted, those 2nd round picks were used to get DeJean but still, I look at that Pickett trade and think they could have used that 3rd in a much better way.  Chase Young was there to be signed and while he hasn't performed up to expectations, he's got a world of talent that you take a risk on.

Young DE with Burns and Young's talent don't hit the market often. Burns was at the top of my wants list since last year. If the Eagles DE don't produce, I hope they are quick to try to fix. Whether that's playing Hunt or Johnson they need to make sure they get juice off the edge.

There’s a non-zero chance Nolan is a scratch a month from now in favor of playing Johnson/Hunt over him

Hurts: "Just keep the main thing the main thing”

If I hear this again all season I’m gonna puke

Based off watching videos it looks like his knee shifts and pops. I kind of also think if it were that the packers would’ve already said it.

Yea, you can 100% see a pop in the knee. No idea what that means but clear as day, there's a pop. Even though he was rubbing both calves on sideline, he doesn't look sturdy on his knee at all. Hope he's OK.

ChatGPT:

A knee "pop" can be caused by various factors, some of which are benign, while others may indicate an injury or condition. Common causes include:

1. **Ligament Injuries**: A sudden pop can occur with ligament tears, especially with the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). This is often accompanied by pain, swelling, and instability.

2. **Meniscus Tears**: Damage to the meniscus, the cartilage that cushions the knee, can also result in a popping sound, especially during twisting motions.

3. **Patellar Tracking Issues**: When the kneecap (patella) doesn’t move smoothly over the femur during movement, it can cause a popping sensation.

4. **Tendon Injuries**: If the tendons around the knee, like the patellar or quadriceps tendon, are damaged or torn, a pop may occur.

5. **Gas Bubbles (Cavitation)**: Sometimes, the knee can pop due to the formation and release of gas bubbles within the joint, similar to cracking knuckles. This is usually harmless and not associated with pain.

6. **Osteoarthritis**: As cartilage wears down with age, joints may make popping or grinding sounds (crepitus) due to the rough surfaces rubbing together.

7. **IT Band Syndrome**: Tightness in the iliotibial band, which runs along the outside of the thigh and crosses the knee, can cause a popping sensation on the outside of the knee.

If the popping is accompanied by pain, swelling, or instability, it’s best to seek medical advice to determine the underlying cause.

Why does Hurts look fast in practice and slow in games

It's the same as why he did not throw a single int in training camp and threw 2 today and on a bad day could have been 4. You talking about Practice??? 🙂

Keep in mind that Reddick didn't do anything in 2022 until the 3rd game and our team only accumulated a total of 3 sacks in the 1st 2 games that year.

I want to rewatch the game and focus on the pass rush a little more closely before I panic.  I was yelling a lot because of uncalled holds. I though some guys were winning.

Reub with 2 of his finest observations yet

10A. Reason No. 117 playing in Brazil on opening day is a bad idea: Maybe the long flight isn’t the only reason the game was sloppy, but there were eight flags in the first quarter – four on the Packers, two on the Eagles and two that offset. There’s always a little sloppiness on opening day, but eight penalties in the first quarter says a lot. Both teams were so far out of their comfort zone and it showed. In all there were 26 penalties called, including four that offset and four that were declined. I just don’t think that happens if this game is at Lambeau or the Linc.

10B. Reason No. 118 is that the field was a disaster. Somebody was slipping on just about every play and their were divots everywhere. Seemed as bad as Super Bowl LVII on that awful turf at State Farm Stadium. This game should never have been played in that stadium. Or in that country. Or in that hemisphere

He’s getting an mri when they get back to GB according to what sportscenter just reported.

Packers fans...esp Clara....yikes

Maddox is the most overrated player on the Eagles and has been.  When he isn't hurt he is just not very good.  Rodgers needs to come in on nickel with Rodgers going to corner. and Mitchell at nickel.   Would rather see Ringo come in at corner and Mitchell to nickel if it comes to that.

I'm sure everything I put in this post has already been said over the last 70 pages of posts but here goes anyway.

Ridiculously sloppy week #1 game and the refs sucked to boot.  Even the announcers were horrible.  Add the field conditions and it was a total sheet show of a game and broadcast.

Baun stole the show, Mitchell was really good, and Barkley/Brown/Goedert did what we all knew they would do.

Hurts sucked, Huff/NSmith got no pressure, Carter mixed bag, Dean played well at times.

I thought the most encouraging thing was the play of the LBs which had its challenges but was FAR better than last year in any case.  Also, I was encouraged by the play of Mitchell.  The most worrying item imho was the edge rush.  Maybe the field had a LOT to do with it but we certainly need more pressure from the outside.  Finally, we are going to need a better Hurts to be able to have a strong season.  Hurts did look like he wanted to stay in the pocket more but on many plays he just couldn't help himself and resorted to his normal panic move out to the right side.

Nice to start with a win.  On to Atlanta.

I understand why this game would remind people of last season, but I was more encouraged last night than at any point during 10-1 last year.

Maybe because I fully expected some sloppiness for the first month, so the mistakes didn’t bother me as much. But, what we saw last night is a dominant group that, if this game were played at home, in mid October, we would have blown out one of the top teams in the league.

It’s understandable to have PTSD over last year, but this team seems different.

The pure positivity and excitement from AJ after the game also was an indicator that they are feeling much better.

Now, get back to the Linc and do what you do to Kirk Cousins.

Siri good at clock management and winning these close games, I’ll give him that.

Last night temporarily laid to rest A LOT of concerns I had about the Eagles coming into this season. BUT... I am on high alert as I watch Hurts. I hope Kellen can see something there he can work with that I don't.

I am so happy after watching Quinyon Mitchell tonight

Also, I'm fine with scaling back on the brotherly shove usage. If we actually have a functional defense then playing the field position game isn't a bad thing. Or at least work on some new 4th down calls.

At what point do we seriously consider moving on from Hurts? Obviously it's only been one week and he has plenty of time. I'm not advocating for it right now. However...

He still turns the ball over far too much. He still struggles with the blitz. He still rolls to his right and dumps it out of bounds. He still makes brain dead decisions time and time again. This is his fifth year and at many times last night he looked like a wide eyed rookie.

He has more weapons than any QB in our franchises history. Going to be a real shame if we can't capitalize on it because he just can't process simple information on the field.

Agreed.  Hurts progression and the edge rush are my only concerns right now.

Huff was just a non factor!

We're nowhere close to that, but the most realistic scenario that wouldn't murder our cap is trading Hurts AFTER the 2025 season. This year he's the QB anyway, so one more year at a minimum.

Keep in mind that Jalen has a no-trade clause.

When it’s financially feasible & there’s a clear upgrade I think you have that conversation.
