Severity doesn't matter.  It's a preventative measure.  They don't need him to beat the Falcons.  They will be playing on MNF which means they will be entering their next game on a short week.  Why risk putting him out there and pushing it so that this can possibly turn into an actual lingering issue for this season?

Given the opponent, If I were the Eagles I would not be at all hesitant to rest AJ for a week.  Smith and Dotson on the outside with Covey taking the slot snaps.  Elevate Parris Campbell from the Practice Squad.  If Wilson also needs a hamstring rest, then have Jenkins take his "big WR" snaps.

Are we comfortable without a backup C/IOL over a 3rd TE whose strong suit isn’t blocking? 

If he can play, you play him. There are no gimmes in the NFL.

Good question.  Having Jenkins and Campbell active does preclude that.  The condition of Wilson's hamstring is an unknown ... and he is a much less important long-term piece/asset than AJ is.

Yes, but which is more important having AJ rest for a week and be better able to contribute in games 3-17 or run the risk of aggravating the injury and compromise the chances of his full availability in games 3-17?

Agree. At the same time if he can play without possibility making it worse. Hamstrings are bad injuries you don't want to linger in a WR. Rest him before it becomes a problem and it's a week. Play him and trigger a real issue and maybe it's IR.

Or he sprains it in the first quarter. I'll take my chances and risk one loss vs not having him for 4-6 weeks.

There's a big re-injury risk with hammies. If he tries to push it too hard before it's ready, he could strain it worse and miss even more time.

Bengals notoriously a cheap organization.

 

Wild time as an Eagles fan though where an great WR like that might be available in time but we have absolutely no need for one because we already have two great young WRs locked up for the long term.  Really might be in the midst/early stages of the best era of Eagles football.
