These teams believe their own hype and have high expectations, but I don't think they stay focused and hungry. That underdog mentality in 2017 helped them overachieve and overcome and win the Super Bowl with a backup QB.

The Phillies celebrate every series win or division title going nuts in the clubhouse like they won the World Series. The Eagles talk a lot about culture, standard and such and then play undisciplined and sloppy, even wins are ugly wins. The Sixers choke every year, no one believes they will win anything. These teams need to get all business in the playoffs and put in the work and stay focused. In the NFL there are so few games, and yet they come out with slow starts and poor performance. They had the whole offseason to think about that collapse and come back with a vengeance and other than some coaching and roster changes, it's still basically a continuation of last year.

Some of that.

however, I think this is more player development of young guys. Specifically for the Phillies. You knew you were going to have these high-priced free agents. They came with warts and flaws and we knew what they were when they got here. So those guys you likely weren’t changing. But the guys that you could change and mold in to becoming better players than some of the guys you had previously were the young kids.

Bryson Stott has regressed. Brandon marsh has the same problem he had with the Angels. He can’t hit left-handed pitching and strikes out too much. (That’s why you don’t trade top 75 prospect/trade chips for guys you have to fix. People crap on amaro (rightfully so on a lot of things), but amaro never traded high end prospects for guys that weren’t proven every day players. Got Lee, halladay, pence, oswalt when he dealt those prospects. You cash in those top tier prospects for proven players if you are going to make a trade. Not guys you have to fix. Marsh you had to fix other wise he was a platoon player). And Bohm had a great April and May like everyone but then by end of June he had stott like slashed the rest of the year. And Rojas thought he was a power hitter for first 3 months.

their development was a problem cause they were supposed to help cost control and supplement the spending at other positions and even the decline of realmuto. They have proven to not be as good as what they were sold as. Bohm was until his last 70 games where his slashes are as bad as Stott

Funny thing, I really hate all Philly sports team other than the Eagles. New York in all major sports other than football.

I think I've been a villain around here for a while.

What can I say? Born and raised in NY. Mother was born in Philly and have family there, so the Eagles have been in my blood forever.

Everything else I grew up watching/raised in a NY household and it stuck

Big Dom

"There was a moment in the locker room where I'm sitting there crying,” Sydney Brown shared, reflecting on his torn ACL just a week after his 99-yard interception return touchdown. Overwhelmed, he found support from team advisor Dom DiSandro, who encouraged him to stay positive. Within 12 hours, Brown had a plan for his return. Now back at practice, Brown proudly says, "If I could go back in time... I’d tear the heck out of my ACL again” for the lessons it taught him. It's great to see him back, stronger and ready to make an impact.

This story was as anticlimactic as @mikemack8's attempt to fit 8 uncut hogs in his mouth at once.

I think it has much less to do with that than their roster not being as good as many projected. The super hot start caused people to view this team as way better than they are. In terms of the roster, it's much closer to the way they played since mid June.

I don't think focus has anything to do with the Phillies shortcomings, I think it's all talent.

This was not a 95 win team, despite winning 95 games. If this roster played 10 seasons I think they win around 89 games the majority of the time and are fighting tooth and nail for a wildcard spot. Want to get back to the World Series, the front office needs to upgrade the roster significantly. And change the philosophy and how they construct it. Fewer guys who swing from their heels. More guys who work counts and get on base. And enough with high contact relief pitchers. I was not an Estevez fan. His metrics were an indicator his numbers weren't sustainable. It's concerning that the front office apparently LOVED Estevez and Hays. That's bad talent evaluation.

That's what I was expecting and hoping for, I was not expecting same old stuff, different year. It's going to take  acceptance by Jeffrey & Howie that what they want and what their coaching hires have made clear is that what they envision just ain't cuttin' it. They've hired the architect/inventor of the Fangio Defense and it sucks so far. Offense I think the book on Hurts is found in every Defensive Coordinator's library. Hurts is going to have to rewrite that book or the Eagles are going to be middle of the road offensively, beat the weaker teams and lose to the teams with better defenses.

Meh.  Maybe.   But I think the Phillies fell prey to the same thing the Braves and Dodgers have over recent years... they took their foot off the pedal once they clinched.  It wasn't about the 5 days after the end of the season, but the 5 days added on to the more than a week before the season ended where they were limping their way into the playoffs.  They thought they could flip the switch back on, but they couldn't. Baseball is too much about rhythm and consistency, and they messed with their preparation and mindset and allowed themselves to go into a lull.

The format makes it harder for the top teams to stay sharp, but at the same time, the Phillies dulled themselves down the stretch of games to end the season, as compared to the 2 years prior where they had meaningful games right up to the end.  I blame their prep, but even then..  rhe bat's have fallen cold 3 years straight now in the postseason.  It's not a coincidence, and blaming the format is letting them off the hook.  This is who they are... very few of them grind out at bats..bat's... or even know how to.

The most uninspiring inspirational speech you can get.

That's because the story is incomplete.  We have only arrived at the crossroad. Now,  we will either see a new dominant Brown, or we will see a once promising player who otherwise just can't tackle well enough to be an NFL player.

Tbh Dombrowski overrated the roster and was arrogant after they lost to the dbacks like they didn’t need to make improvements besides Merrifield who wasn’t good enough. His deadline deals the last two years haven’t helped them at all in the playoffs. In 2023 castro was useless and he tried to sell everyone as he was the RH platoon bat. Hes not a major leaguer. Hays didn’t have a walk his entire time with the Phillies and didn’t look great prior to the injuries

Well, let's see:

Yankees haven't won in 15 years

Eagles have won once

Islanders haven't won since the 80s

Nets...LOL

But yeah totally!

I will address this discrepancy immediately with the owner of the X handle Eagles Fan Central. I may need to tag Elon as well.

Dombrowski is an overrated executive. He's been on a lot of successful teams, and they've won here with him, but I really don't think they win without the groundwork Klentak left behind. Dombrowski added Schwarber and Castellanos and made some nice swings on relievers, but Harper, Realmuto, Weeler, Nola, Ranger, Bohm, Stott were all here before Dombrowski got here. There's a reason he leaves every team he's been on in ruins.

Where would this team be right now if Middleton didn't open up his checkbook to allow him to spend? The only chance they have of winning is going above the luxury tax because this team still all these years later has no major league ready position players. It's quite insane actually how every team in baseball seems to have a young star to bring up who can hit except this team. The closest is Miller who's a couple years away at the earliest. I don't trust Dombrowski's talent evaluation and I have no idea why they didn't pursue any free agents during the winter. Even a guy like Tommy Pham could've helped if they didn't want to go over the luxury tax. Pham is better than Hays.

They came into the year with a bottom 5 outfield in baseball and expected to win a title.

I hope everyone in Florida got through the hurricane ok.  I’m in Central Florida and this was likely the worse one to hit us since Charlie in 2004 - although not as bad as Charlie.
