Nobody complained about him in 2022. Everyone incorrectly ate crow. Even myself. I even considered buying a jersey. I was a believer.

And I was actually maybe the only person defending the draft pick at the time. Not because of him as a player but I understood the cap reasons for drafting a high caliber BACKUP QB, in an offseason where there wasnt going to be 9M available for someone like Foles to continue backing up Wentz.

Unfortunately the Wentz situation unfolded the way it did, and we got stuck trying to make our 2nd round BACKUP QB a starter.

From there on, with new expectations on him as the incumbent starter, its been nothing but brutal honesty. Hes not good enough in this role. And looks like he never will be.

It really is strange that Hurts' passing stats in 2022 and 2024 are pretty similar despite the fact that the offense has been way more injured this year, and yet no one was complaining then (according to you) but people should be complaining now, because of...reasons.

Completion percentage, 66.5, 67.5, yards per game, 248, 236, yards per attempt, 8, 7.6.

The only glaring difference is turnovers. Which everyone agrees, he should cut down on.

Also, the defense made things a lot easier for the offense in 2022. If anything, Hurts is better now.

Well a lot of youtube comments are basically saying no surprise he acted this way because he has his nails painted. I was hoping that wasnt actually the case. At the same time, I guess its better to be a puss than to actually have a severe head/neck injury.

He hit his head pretty hard.  It’s rare, but I’ve seen even young people get skull fractures and deadly epidural hematomas from comparable hits.  Most people do fine with that kind of hit, but it’s still no joke.

agreed. comments were ugly. I dont understand the nail polish for men. His tik tok dances are shockingly femme. But Ive been watching some of his 76ers youtube content lately and subscribed. hes a really likeable guy. The nail polish doesnt define him. He deserves to be seen and heard for who he is. Im rooting for him to be great, and force some philly fans to come around on him.

QBR is not a 'passing' stat.  It counts runs as part of the equation.  In other words, using QBR to determine Hurts' passing efficiency is a false equivalency fallacy.

If you take QBR at face value, and Hurts is the 11th best QB in the league - is that good enough to win the SB?  Unless you get everything right on the roster/coaching, it sounds like purgatory to me.  He was top-5 in QBR in 2022, but does that version of Jalen still exist...

The way the roster is constructed, the Eagles need to be a top 5 offense to win a Super Bowl, IMO.  I've said it before -- it's constructed (and paid) to be a top 5 offense and a mid-tier (15th, hopefully) defense.

Average QB play is not going to get it done.  Having said that, Hurts doesn't need to be Superman; he needs to distribute the ball to AJ Brown, Smith, Barkley, Goedert (when healthy) and the rest (Gilligan's Island) in a very efficient manner.  Be a point guard instead of a shooting guard, so to speak.

The team influences his QBR though. What was his QBR in Cleveland? 73 against a pretty good defense. Hes not forcing picks when his guys are on the field. So as long as AJ is healthy, he puts up that top 5-10 QBR, we should be alright.

High cervical injuries can cause respiratory distress due to loss of diaphragm function.  But…you’d have to have major motor deficits, nearly quadriplegia, before you reach the point that diaphragm function is compromised.  So c spine precautions are still reasonable when we don’t know what’s going on, but I’d be surprised in this case.

I suspect this was more some combined concussion/pain response…but not quite as dangerous as it looked.

Should have been wearing a guardian cap!

To the folks who have reached out to me asking about my health and welfare I send a huge amount of thanks.  The last three weeks have been challenging to say the least.  Fortunately no tragedies, but a healthy dose of hills to climb.  My mother is 101 years old and I have spent a considerable amount of time care giving for her back East, and then had additional full-time challenges arise in California. Fortunately I have a wonderful sister who shoulders the lions share of the care giving. Things are relatively stable right now but I have another care giving round the first two weeks of November scheduled, and appointments with our healthcare providers here in California in the meantime.  As they say, getting old is a ****.

So, I'm going to have to follow the example of @greend and step away from the EMB until a time when I can afford the time for the wonderful distraction and camaraderie that this merry band of men and women gives in abundance.  @VaBeach_Eagle has my e-mail address, and if anyone does feel the need to communicate, he has my permission to share that address with you.

Thank you all!

Family first always. Hope all works out, that kind of situation is never easy. The conversation and predictions will be missed.

Any time I see arguments about the weapons Hurts has and how stagnant this offense is, I think back to when Carson Wentz was throwing to these guys.

Exactly. You traded up to get your franchise QB and then gave him crap for support

And he dragged those scrubs to the playoffs.

He had all his guys for the GB game but posted a QBR in 50s - he now has a 1-game streak of not turning the ball over, that has to continue.

Lawrence and Burns still not practicing today. That would be big if they can't go.

Bingo.

I'm also not fully understanding what he or others are trying to argue. That Hurts isn't the worst QB in the league? We already know that and I don't think anyone else has argued that. I think most people have agreed he's middle of the pack-ish as a whole (overall) since he became a full time starter and given the circumstances and talent around him it's simply not good enough.

Only QB in NFL history to throw for 4,000 yards and not have a 500 yard receiver.

In fairness, the Eagles acquired a WR1 and WR2; they were the wrong choices long term.  Alshon Jeffery was a big part of SB LII but didn't have any ability to stay healthy over the long term, which was a worry when they acquired him.  DeSean Jackson was a turd who never should have been brought back; he lived in the infirmary and wasn't a good teammate when he was around.  They also took a swing on Mike Wallace to replace Torrey Smith, and that didn't work out -- to say the least.

Drafting Reagor and JJAW was really poor evaluation as well.  JJAW sucked and, while I still believe Reagor had some talent, he was stuck with a 10 cent head.

All I know is I said before 2021, that my belief was that Jalen hurts is ceiling was that he would be consistently somewhere between 10 to 15th best quarterback in the league. Both side whose love and hated hurts didn’t like that. he had a phenomenal 2022. I did not expect him to ever play at the level. if he managed to play at that level consistently he’d be a constant top 5 qb. The eagles would be set long term. It’s why there’s only a handful of quarterbacks that can do it consistently.

I still believe he is likely somewhere between 10 to 15 consistently as his likely ceiling with maybe an occasional outlier season like 2022. The question becomes can you win a Super Bowl with your quarterback being somewhere between 10 to 15? Imo he needs to be closer to five. I know they have other issues on this team that prevent us from being a legit contender. Heck he was top 3 in 2022 and had a great Sb outside of a fumble and we didn’t win. They need to fix those other problems too, but in order to win a Super Bowl i do not think he can be in the 10-15. He has 12 more games to keep improving and get better. Hopefully he does. If we are at the end of the season and he’s still 10-15 then need to have a deeper discussion in what they have to do. Cause until the season ends it’s hurts regardless if you love, hate or whatever

My thing is... why not? Why can't he return to that? He has even more tools than he did then with the exception of losing Kelce

1.  Defenses have schemed to slow down what Hurts wants to do.

2.  Not sure we as fans know the full extent of his ankle and knee injuries.  Just because you have surgery and aren't limping anymore doesn't mean you're 100% of pre-injury abilities.  There's no way Wentz ever got close to 100% after having his ACL, MCL, and LCL surgically repaired.  I suspect Hurts isn't as quick or fast as he was before the injuries started to accumulate.

Hope all goes well as best it can with you and your family. Keeping you in thoughts and sending good vibes your way.

Been there as a caregiver. And know what that entails. Much respect.

Look forward to seeing you in these parts again.

I think most people have agreed he's middle of the pack-ish as a whole (overall) since he became a full time starter and given the circumstances and talent around him it's simply not good enough.

To be fair, there are posters who absolutely hate Hurts and call him trash, he sucks, and anything good he does is either ignored or excused away as the WR made a play or he was lucky, or they just talk about the negatives. Some say he is arrogant and refuses to run the plays the coaches want to.

Most of the conversations aren't rational until people push back. Then all of a sudden they meet in the middle and say he's not the worst but he's mid.

Apart from that one guy, I don't think I've seen anyone say Hurts is playing at an elite level the last 2 years. They've made excuses for him like injuries and such but I think even the most optimistic recognize he's not a top 5 QB.

So he's a middle of the pack game manager with inconsistencies. So what do the coaches do about that? I don't believe that he is an ego who refuses to do what he's told. He's also shown success at things people say he never does or cannot do. So how do the coaches scheme to his strengths? The analytics show him being successful at things that they don't call enough. Why don't the coaches just run what they want to run?

Siri is on the hot seat, they brought in 2 coordinators. He could insist they run the offense the way he/Moore want and make the case to Lurie that it's the QB not the coaches. But they're not even calling those things apparently.
