You're saying you don't know why I'm upset that he took this sack?

That's the exact play I am talking about.

15 yards of field position lost in a 0-0 game for no reason.

Ok so then you must mean this one below. You seriously can't find a lane for him to break the pocket here and throw it away?

His default pocket bail is back and to his right.

False dichotomy. You can use your legs to extend the play and still throw it away if you can't find anyone open. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Russell Wilson's specialty to was to run back out of pressure and chuck a duck to the sidelines.   He did it all the time.

I mean the LB Becton is in front of is in a position to close down the running lane. Not to mention that it's an incredibly short period of time between this shot and when Burns has him.  I don't think it's fair to blame Hurts for the sack based on this. It was a protection failure which may have been his fault.

Burns doesn't touch him, Hurts gives himself up. And if he steps up and inside of Lane, he can break the pocket to the right to throw it away. This and the first screenshot I posted are sacks he could have reasonably avoided. The other 2 were ones where he didn't exactly have any options on from what I could tell but I haven't seen good angles of them yet either.

Maybe if he just decides to take off before seeing if any WR's get open, sure.  If you watch the vid (it's the very first sack/play in the vid I sent) you can see he's going through his progressions and by the time he realized the pressure was there, there's no time to take that lane. This was on 3rd and 10 btw, so throwing it away saves you from a sack, sure, but it's not a sack on 1st or 2nd down which stalls a drive.

When running backwards... you aren't extending the play to make a positive thing happen.  Stop extending the play and cut bait.   That's where he gets himself in trouble extending plays.

I mean, we saw McNabb do a similar thing which lead to the 14 second scramble.  I get it, it's probably best to chuck it away, but QB's scramble to try and make plays 🤷‍♂️

Once again, field position matters.

This. The whole play took 3 seconds. It's easy to show a still of a running lane, but it doesn't show you how quickly the pocket actually collapses

And here we are being accepting of middling talent.  The goal is to hit on those high picks because those are the guys that can be transformative for a franchise.  Getting a middling guy in round 1, and then finding another middling guy as a UDFA to make up for trading away other picks that could also be middling is why the defense has become so middle of the road.  Eventually you need to find a player that's actually better than average.  And I think you are overrating Blankenship a bit.  He's a fine starting safety... but I'm not sure I'd say above average just yet, but maybe.

It is easy to focus on the misses, especially the defensive ones, because there have been so many.  They do a good job overall of acquiring OFFENSIVE talent... and of being forced to fix the defense continually through FA moves.  They had to sign Reddick, then Huff... why?   Because they missed on Barnett.  He was a middling DE, and they wanted more impact.  They trade for Slay and sign him to a big deal... and Bradberry a year later, because they couldn't figure it out with Rasul Douglas and Sydney Jones.

Maybe they've finally gotten it right with Carter, Mitchell and DeJean. Maybe they have gotten it right with them because they evaluated where they failed and looked to improve rather than being content with average performers.  Failing to admit mistakes, or to evaluate previous results leads to nothing but more of the same.  Is that the goal?

I was not accepting the performance of Davis.  I was addressing the argument that trading draft capital needs to be part of the argument.

They scouted and spend draft capital on Davis.  The scouting error was far beyond the relatively small amount draft capital they used to move up.  If he wasn't a good idea at #13, he wouldn't be worth #15.

To be fair though, he did bail out his OL on a couple plays, this one especially

We won 28-3, I guess field position was fine, lol. And you can see how quickly things unravel in those clips.

Uh, I just posted the end zone angle video of the play. He had a lane but instead gave himself up, literally without anyone laying a finger on him.

To be fair, Hurts has had a number of sacks this season where he's held onto it too long, but the only sack from yesterday that fits that is the scramble where he could've thrown it away.  There were 2 where I think he was fine to give himself up.

Week to week...oof. I know it helps us, but sucks for Daniels. He has been balling.

EDIT: More context. Based on this, I'd be surprised if he played this week. Can't imagine they rush him back.

Probably week to week to fully heal but he’ll play with a flak jacket. I think it’s bruised ribs, nothing broken.

I honestly don't know why I bother sometimes.

Might be one of those rib cartilage deals - I remember Vick had something similar here

we can agree to disagree then. I don't dispute he gave himself up there, it was the other play where he scrambled that you tried to show a lane, but there really wasn't one.

I don't think he had time to hit the lane in the clip you showed.

Yeah, as much as we say "it was only the Giants," I'm pretty sure the Giants would beat Carolina by 2 scores.

EDIT: Good Lord, Carolina as a -133 point differential in 7 games. They are losing by 19 points per game on average. That's unreal.

Right? I watched the first half of that game cause i have the commanders kicker for a fantasy league. So i figured why not. Their defense is as bad as their offense. It’s miss tackle after miss tackle. Guys wide open by like a good 6-8 yards. When we play them I’d be shocked if we don’t get 40

ditto.  mainly just to kill time.

still doesn't negate the failed logic of the twitter guy, because even if I concede on the 1 sack where he gives himself up, every other sack is just good defensive pressure. Obviously he could've thrown it away on the one scramble, but like I said, that's a risk you take when you have a guy like Hurts. You even posted another play on 3rd and 7 where he avoids the sack and then runs for a first, so it's not like he won't run if he can. It also shows that sometimes you're going to get positive results when he scrambles.
